I would also like to recognize our students and staff for their ongoing commit-ment to their community. Just a couple examples of their recent generosityinclude their donation of profits from Hot Country Nights and Stuff the Busto the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program. They helped to raise $2,000and 1,000lbs of food. We also had over eighty students participate in a BigBrothers Big Sisters event where they helped to raise $2,800. Thank you to thestudents and staff for their efforts and to the community. It is because of yoursupport that we are able to raise so much for these great organizations.

Lincoln As StorytellerIn March, Mr. Flanagan (BHS AP US HistoryTeacher), along with five students, were able to gatherand participate in a second Civil War Roundtable pre-sentation. This time the topic was Lincoln TheHumorist, Storyteller, and Poet. This was anotherexciting opportunity to extend learning beyond theclassroom.
From left to right: MaxBurtis, Wyatt Slocum,Charles Plummer (asLincoln), Siona Henze,Cesar Fortin and EmilyCoffin. Emily andCesar are holding upthe books they won at
the auction. Traveller is the story of the Civil War toldfrom the point-of-view of General Lee’s horse.Charles Plummer delivered an anecdote-filled discus-sion of Lincoln as a storyteller. The students learnedthat Lincoln’s skill at telling a story most likely camefrom Lincoln’s interactions with his father, with whomLincoln had a very strained relationship, but that hisability to meet the vicissitudes of life with humor was agift from his mother. Mr. Plummer capped his presen-tation by reading one of Lincoln’s poems.
