Esteemed HistoryBroxmouth House was designed by James Nisbet of Kelso as a dower house for the 3rd Duke of Roxburghe in 1775. The original Broxmouth site was acquired by the Roxburghes in 1644 and was used as a home by the family for many years.

The house is close to the historic site of the Battle of Dunbar, the last battle between England and Scotland, which took place in September 1650. Cromwell’s Mount, from where Oliver Cromwell commanded the battle, is situated in the gardens.

Anne Innes-Ker, Duchess of Roxburghe (1854–1923) was Sir Winston Churchill’s aunt and the last Roxburghe family member to live at Broxmouth House. Her son, Henry Innes-Ker, the 8th Duke of Roxburghe, was born here in 1876.

Queen Victoria visited Broxmouth in August 1878 and planted the cedar tree to the south west of the house during her stay in memory of her beloved Albert.

The iron staircase leading to the balcony of the bow fronted dining room at Broxmouth is said to have been installed to give her private access from her room to Cromwell's mount and the grounds. Photographs of the staircase and other galleries can be found here.

Luxurious overnight accommodation is available for up to 34 guests on the estate. The main house has eight double/twin bedrooms, all with en-suite or private bathrooms. Additional accommodation is available in two Estate Houses, Old Bridge House, Head Gardener’s Cottage and the future Eco Lodge on the Loch.

Broxmouth Park has its own private freshwater lake for the use of guests, amply stocked with rainbow trout and brown trout. Sea fishing is available by private charter from North Berwick.

AccommodationThe sumptuous accommodation at Bridge House consists of the hall, leading onto a sitting room with open fire and French doors to the patio and garden.

The open-plan dining room seats up to ten people for dinner parties and entertaining. Combined with an extensively modern and well-equipped kitchen and utility room, anyone looking for the

highest quality, luxurious self-catering holiday is amply provided for. The Ground floor also includes a double bedroom, together with a cloakroom/WC.

Set within the extensive grounds of Broxmouth Park, Head Gardener’s Luxury Holiday Cottage provides opulent holiday accommodation in exclusive surroundings. With four bedrooms sleeping up to 8 people, the recently re-designed cottage is well equipped and furnished to a very high standard. With one hundred and fifty acres of unspoiled landscape, Head Gardener’s Cottage provides a perfect holiday location.

AccommodationThe main hall leads onto a sitting room with french doors that open out to the garden area.

The living room and well equipped open-plan kitchen incorporates a gas Aga cooker and large breakfast area. There is a single

bedroom on the ground floor as well as an accompanying cloakroom/WC.

On the first floor there are two double bedrooms and a twin room. The first double bedroom contains a deluxe sleigh bed and the twin room incorporates and en suite bathroom. On this floor there is also a separate bathroom with shower cubicle.

How to Find UsLocationThe Broxmouth Park estate is situated at the foot of the Lammermuir Hills on the A1087 road, 1.25 miles (2km) to the east of Dunbar, East Lothian in Scotland.

The estate is easily accessible by road, rail and air and lies 35 miles (58km) from Edinburgh and 70 miles (120km) from New-castle upon Tyne.

By RoadTraveling South take the 3rd exit (the one after Asda) and follow the road back towards Dunbar, go over a small roundabout. There is a sign to White Sands and the estate entrance is 30m further along on the right, via large curve walls with stone spheres atop the gate posts.

By RailDunbar station is less than one mile away and enjoys a direct connection with London King’s Cross Station. A frequent train service operates from Edinburgh Waverley Street.

By AirScotland’s Edinburgh Airport is approximately 45 minutes drive time away. If you wish to arrive by helicopter, our OS grid reference is NT 695776 (Lat: N 59° 59.26 Long: W 2° 29.16).
