Editing Tabs – When students have completed a piece of work, get them to do their usual corrections- i.e SPaG. However, when giving them this DIRT time, get them to re-write their paragraph/text/work on a separate piece of paper and then stick it partially over their work. This way they can see their improvements and so can the teacher and parents.

Laura Wilson in a Year 7 English class taught to the top and then supported at the bottom. To get a sense of what it is like to perfect their writing students created a poster entitled The Life & Times of Shakespeare with a task where everyone struggled no matter their ability. Support was given when needed with a scaffolded task.
