To give things the right form means to constantly look for new solutions. To view familiar objects from a different angle and surprise with new ideas. With several innovative details the Octavia’s unique look has become even more stylish, and its timeless lines have acquired even more elegance.

Page 4: Brochure: Skoda 1Z.II Octavia and Octavia RS (September 2011)australiancar.reviews/_pdfs/Skoda_Octavia-OctaviaRS_1Z-II_Brochure_201109.pdfthe Octavia a compact yet dynamic look from

The front grille, with its eye-catching chrome frame and traditional vertical ribbing, represents one of the most striking design elements of the exterior. The robust look of the front is strengthened by the compact front bumper that connects seamlessly with the newly shaped front wings, optically widening the car.

4

Page 5: Brochure: Skoda 1Z.II Octavia and Octavia RS (September 2011)australiancar.reviews/_pdfs/Skoda_Octavia-OctaviaRS_1Z-II_Brochure_201109.pdfthe Octavia a compact yet dynamic look from

The rear bumper is single-piece and, like the front bumper and protective door strips, painted entirely in the body colour. This gives the Octavia a compact yet dynamic look from the rear, which is further emphasised by the red safety refl ectors built into the bumper.

The headlights elegantly extend all the way to the wings and give the car a completely unique expression. The Octavia logo is an original detail to be found on closer inspection inside the headlight casing (above). In addition to the basic projector-type headlights, we also offer as an option xenon headlights with dynamic angle control. While the xenon lamp provides exceptionally bright light, electric motors secure the height and spread of light to improve visibility on bends. Integrated telescopic headlight washers are hidden behind a discreet cover under the headlights.

Front foglights, standard on 118TSI and 103TDI, are another impressive and attractive detail for the front of the car, as their shape contributes to the dynamic feel of the vehicle. The foglights also feature an optional Corner function. This can be activated when the foglights are switched off (but the main headlights are on) and the car speed is up to 40km/h. Depending on the position of the steering wheel or activated turn indicators, one of the foglights will self-activate so that the driver is warned of obstacles at the side of dark roads, including kerbs.

The majority of the rear light area is reserved for tail lights and brake lights, helping to increase safety levels.

The area which refl ects continued development most strongly is technology. Automobile technology is changing right before our eyes. What was pure fantasy yesterday goes without saying today. Your new vehicle simply brings you new possibilities.

The dashboard with multi-function trip computer and white background illumination results in perfect legibility of the data directly in the driver’s fi eld of vision.

Automatic 7-speed DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) transmission is exclusively designed for the 118TSI engine. This unique technology uses two clutches and two sets of gears to pre-select the desired gear in readiness for the next shift up or down. In practice DSG allows smoother and faster gearchanges, and more favourable fuel consumption.

Cruise control allows you to maintain pre-set speeds, ideal for motorway driving. While the cruise control is active, an indicator light on the dashboard remains lit.

An audio jack enables the connection of an external device, such as an iPod.

The optional MDI (Media Device Interface) is a connector inside the glovebox that allows the user, via connection cables with iPod, Aux-in or USB sockets from the ŠKODA Genuine Accessories range, to control an external device through the radio or ŠKODA satellite navigation system. The data from the connected device is displayed on the radio or navigation display, and the multi-function trip computer.

Dual-zone climate control air conditioning, standard on 118TSI and 103TDI, gives you the ability to choose different temperatures for the right and left sides of the interior. Optional heated front seats are a welcome feature during colder months.

The multi-function four-spoke leather steering wheel allows you to adjust the radio and phone, while the optional multi-function three-spoke sports leather steering wheel gives you the option to shift the gears of the DSG transmission via paddles behind the steering wheel.

The Columbus satellite navigation system, is standard on the 118TSI and 103TDI. It operates via voice control and a user-friendly, touch-sensitive screen, with a high resolution display that shows 3D maps, pictures and video in brilliant clarity. With a generous 30GB hard drive (20GB for audio and 10GB for navigation) and built-in DVD drive, your music library and navigation data is always at your fi ngertips. For advanced fl exibility, your favourite music can also be accessed via an SD memory card slot.

The Swing radio, standard on 90TSI and 77TDI, comes with CD and MP3 player.

It’s said that you cannot be careful enough. The same applies to safety. There are always ways to change and improve things.

13

Page 14: Brochure: Skoda 1Z.II Octavia and Octavia RS (September 2011)australiancar.reviews/_pdfs/Skoda_Octavia-OctaviaRS_1Z-II_Brochure_201109.pdfthe Octavia a compact yet dynamic look from

Curtain airbags, or rather the protective wall created upon activation of the airbag, protects the occupants against head and side injuries.

14

Page 15: Brochure: Skoda 1Z.II Octavia and Octavia RS (September 2011)australiancar.reviews/_pdfs/Skoda_Octavia-OctaviaRS_1Z-II_Brochure_201109.pdfthe Octavia a compact yet dynamic look from

The WOKS (whiplash optimised head restraint system) headrests in the front seats, one of the new safety features of the Octavia, effectively protect the neck and spine in the case of rear impact.

The driver and front passenger airbags are activated in the event of

a head-on collision together with the front seatbelt pre-tensioners.

The automatic rain sensor, standard on the 118TSI and 103TDI, activates and regulates the front wipers depending on the intensity of the rain.

Height-adjustable front seatbelts with pre-tensioners are vital to a safe drive. When the front airbags are activated, the pre-tensioners virtually anchor you to the seat.

The standard front side airbags reduce the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger in the case of a side impact.

Auto lights offer functionality that chooses the correct lighting mode according to the current need

and situation: Coming Home (to light the driveway on arrival after the doors have been locked), Leaving

Home (when going to the car and unlocking the doors), or Tunnel Light (automatically switching on the lights

when the intensity of the external light drops).

The distance between practical and comfortable can vary. It depends on what you have in mind in terms of great comfort and what’s important to you. That’s why we bring you comfort-enhancing items that increase the Octavia’s practicality, as well as a range of accessories intended purely for your maximum comfort.

The optional electric sunroof gives the spacious interior another dimension.

As an option you can order an electrically-adjustable driver’s seat with memory that allows you to set the seat in your favourite position within seconds.

Discreet optional rear parking sensors are built into the rear bumper to check the distance of your car from an obstacle when reversing or parking. Your vehicle can also be equipped with front parking sensors. The increasing frequency of an acoustic signal allows you to park safely. You can also see the distance to an object on the radio display.

Reading lamps in the rear provide enough light to the rear seat passengers without disturbing the driver.

Electric front and rear windows with a child safety lock give greater convenience and safety.

Depending on the version you choose the rear seat armrest, together with storage compartment, increases the comfort of the rear seat passengers.

A spacious storage compartment is located in the adjustable armrest between the front seats, and it is cooled using the air conditioning system.

The sunglasses compartment, standard on the 118TSI and 103TDI, is located within easy reach above the rear-view mirror.

The spacious front and rear door pockets can easily hold one litre bottles of water.

The concealed drawer under the front passenger seat is ideal for the transport of more valuable belongings (standard on the 118TSI and 103TDI).

The glovebox is illuminated and cooled via the car’s air conditioning on the 118TSI and 103TDI.

GLOSSARY

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)When braking, sensors in each wheel measure the road speed. If one or more wheels start to lock, the ABS reduces brake pressure to those wheels. This prevents the wheels from locking during heavy or emergency braking and allows you to continue to steer the vehicle.

Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR)ASR is a switchable traction control system that prevents the front wheels from spinning under acceleration. When a difference in driving wheel speed is detected (e.g. due to differences in road surfaces), the system automatically reduces engine torque accordingly.

Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution (EBD)This sophisticated system provides an electronic means of regulating the ratio of front to rear brake pressure. The system automatically varies the settings according to driving and load conditions to ensure each wheel is braked to the optimum extent.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC)The ESC is made up of the ABS and ASR traction control systems. Simply put, it helps ensure that the vehicle goes where you steer it – even in extreme driving conditions. By constantly comparing the actual movement of the vehicle with pre-determined values, ESC will apply the brakes to individual wheels and automatically adjust the engine’s power output to correct a problem the very moment it arises.

Brake AssistBrake Assist aids the driver during emergency braking by automatically increasing the brake pressure to a level exceeding the locking limit. Then, the ABS is quickly brought into the operating range, thereby enabling maximum vehicle deceleration.

18" Neptune alloy wheels with 225/40 R18 tyres come as standard on the RS.

The RS badge sits discreetly on the rear of the boot, gently reminding those behind that this is no ordinary Octavia.

The RS badge is the fi rst indication that this is no ordinary Octavia. Look down and the deep front spoiler with honeycomb grille give the RS its unmistakably sporty and aggressive presence.

Optional xenon headlights with dynamic angle control offer greater

visibility than regular headlights. Thanks to the dynamic angle control, which

works in unison with steering wheel inputs, the driver has improved visibility

through the bends and is able to register possible obstacles at the side of the road earlier and respond accordingly.

Daytime running lights are a striking new element on the RS. Independent LED diodes offer a

distinctive visual appeal as well as better visibility of the car at all

times. The lights are located above the foglights, embedded in the

lower honeycomb grille.

The automatic 6-speed DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) transmission offers rapid yet smooth gearchanges without any loss of performance. It also has excellent acceleration and favourable fuel consumption when driven economically. DSG or six-speed manual transmissions are available on both petrol and diesel engines.

Decorative door sill strips complete with RS inscription also have a practical function by helping to protect the sills against damage.

Dual-zone climate control air conditioning with electronic regulation, and the Columbus satellite navigation are both standard. Touch screen control and SD card slot gives the audio system additional value, while the satellite navigation system comes with a 30GB hard drive and voice control.

RS comes with a three-spoke leather sports steering wheel. The DSG transmission model comes with a three-spoke, multi-function leather sports steering wheel as standard. Note, the plus and minus gearshift paddles behind the steering wheel is for use on DSG model only.

Race-inspired alloy sports pedals help maintain the racetrack theme throughout the RS range – and provide extra grip to help facilitate fast gearchanges.

Alcantara front sports seats (above) are inspired by the racetrack and offer high levels of comfort and grip whatever the journey. The RS emblem is embroidered on both the front and rear seats.

The optional leather/artifi cial leather interior (left) is an effortless blend of sporting style and luxury. The RS logo on the front and rear backrests again forms an attractive detail.

Electronic Differential Lock (EDL)EDL improves driving and steering characteristics when accelerating on road surfaces where each wheel has a different degree of traction. The system operates automatically and is combined with the ABS system. Using the ABS wheel sensors, EDL monitors the speed of the individual driving wheels. When a difference in driving wheel speed is detected (i.e. when one wheel starts to spin due to differences in road surfaces, e.g. due to water or dirt) the system brakes the spinning wheel, transferring engine power to the wheel with the best traction.

Extended Electronic Differential Lock (XDL)The Electronic Differential Lock XDL is an extension to the EDL function. When cornering, the XDL responds to the unloading of the front wheel on the inside of the corner. The ESP hydraulics are used for the XDL to apply pressure to the wheel on the inside of the corner in order to prevent wheel spin. This improves traction and reduces the tendency to understeer. As a direct result of the one-sided and precise braking pressure, cornering is sportier, quicker and more accurate.
