Welcome:

Welcome to the 2018 Scientific Meeting of the BCCA, PECSIG, CCNA and BACCNA at the ACC in Liverpool. On behalf of the team at Alder Hey and from the North West Congenital Partnership we are pleased to host you for an exciting meeting focussing on innovation. We are excited to be offering a stimulating imaging parallel session utilising 3D printing and augmented reality in collaboration with colleagues from Toronto Sick Kids. This unique venue has also provided the opportunity to invite colleagues from congenital cardiac anaesthesia and paediatric intensive care to participate and enhance this years meeting. We hope the rich and varied programme will showcase some of the world-leading work and research going on in the UK and bring together international leaders in their fields to inspire and share new ideas. We would like to thank our sponsors for supporting this years meeting and wish you all a successful conference.

Best wishesCaroline and Rafael

The Madeleine Steel Charitable Trust:Madeleine Louise Steel, universally loved as “Maddy” was born on June 5th 2001 in the Simpson Memorial Pavilion in Edinburgh. She is Andrew and Veronica’s first child and despite having numerous health challenges in her short life, she was mainly cheerful, highly engaging and was cherished by all her family. Maddy died in her mother’s arms on November 24th 2001, following essential heart surgery for her Ebstein’s Anomaly, but her memory and her fight go on in the treasured memories of her family and in the practical form of the Fellowship established in her name. The Trust aims to endow permanent annual scholarships to promote transatlantic sharing of latest research and medical best practices in the field of paediatric cardiology. The Trust also supports related activities, such as visiting professorships and one-off medical research awards. We hope to provide opportunities for specialists to gain and develop better and more effectivetreatments for people with congenital cardiac conditions. Not only will we have a spread of returning trainees across the specialist centres in the UK, but we hope they will be passing on their new expertise to other specialists in the UK.

The Madeleine Steel Charitable Trust is delighted to be sponsoring Dr Wayne Tworetzky, Dr XingQuansheng and Dr Shi-Joon Yoo to speak at this conference.

The Young Investigator Award offering the opportunity to travel to a US conference is also beingmade with the generosity of the supporters and donors of the Madeleine Steel Charitable Trust. The Madeleine Steel Charitable Trust also sponsored 20 bursaries for Nurses with funds raised by Maddy’s aunt – herself a nurse.

A shuttle bus service will be running between 19:15 and 19:45 from the taxi rank at the ACC to the Camp and Furnace
