Cattlemen,
Welcome to the “More Bang for Your Buck” Cornerstone Bull Sale.
Last years sale was really well received, on a great set of bulls, by both purebred and commercial cattle producers across western Canada. Look for more of the same this year.
Both programs are geared to produce high quality bulls that will go out and work for you. They are bulls that are sound in their structure with ample performance and muscle – bulls that are naturally thick and not overfed.
The WRAZ Red Angus bulls are a real nice group. Bulls with lots of correctness, eye appeal and consistency. Many of these good bulls are consistent for a reason…cow families! Cow power is important at WRAZ and you can see the strong infl uence of several top cow families throughout the sale.
The Brimner Charolais bulls are full of performance, muscle and quality. They are the kind of bulls that will calve easy and whose calves will grow once they are on the ground.
Char-cross calves are bringing top dollar at sale barns across the country. The Brimner bulls, red or white, will sire an “in demand” set of Charolais calves for you.
I look forward to seeing you at the Cornerstone Bull Sale on April 17 where you can get “More Bang for Your Buck”.
Please call if I can assist you in any way with your purchase.
Sincerely,DaleD Bar L Livestock(306)221-2480 (cell)

EPD’s cannot be compared between breeds, as each breed has its own base.
DEFINITIONS:
EPD Expected Progeny Diff erence – the diff erence in performance to be expected from future progeny of the individual compared with the breed average.
BW Birth Weight – the birth weights of a bull’s progeny when compared to breed average, in pounds.
WW Weaning Weight – the adjusted weaning weight of a bull’s progeny when compared to breed average, in pounds.
YW Yearling Weight – the adjusted yearling weights of a bull’s progeny when compared to breed average, in pounds.
M Milk – a measure of the amount of pre-weaning performance gained by calves which can be attributed to the milking ability of a bull’s daughters. The EPD is expressed in pounds of calf.
TM Total Maternal – measures a sire’s ability to transmit milk production and growth rate through his daughters. It predicts the weaning weight of a sire’s daughters’ calves. It is equal to milk EPD plus one-half his weaning weight EPD.
CE Calving ease – the ease with which a bull’s calves are born. This EPD is expressed in percent unassisted births with the more positive number indicating greater calving ease.

WRAZ Red Angus Reference Sires
Tycoon just goes along quietly doing his job. He stands on a good, dark foot, is dark red and will leave behind a very good set of females. If you are looking to produce females then take a close look at one of his sons.
We purchased Icon as high seller from Alvin out of the Northern Select Sale. He was selected after appraisal of his dam, a member of Alvin’s proven cow families. Icon is dark in color and very long. He has a big square butt loaded with muscle that many will appreciate.
Led was chosen for A.I. after seeing some of his females at various sales. His sons have length, muscle and shape. The females have a lot of eye appeal.
Squall is our calving ease AI sire. He stands on a good foot and sires very consistent, low birth weights - low birth weight yet very good growth in his progeny. We have daughters in the herd and they milk very well. They have very good udders and teat size. Squall adds femininity and eye appeal to his daughters; growth, muscle shape, and eye appeal to his sons.
His sire was a $63,000 product of the Masterpiece sale. Hawk 5292 has done a great job for Riverdale and JJL often siring the top bulls in their pen and keeper females as well. Hawk sires moderate birth weights, growth, muscle, a big rib, lots of hair, good feet and eye appeal. He is also known for carcass traits. His sons and daughters scan very well.
A.I. sire because he just does a good steady job! We have had very good females and bulls alike. They calve easy and grow very well. A daughter sold at Red Round Up this past fall. A son was in our Agribition pen of three and on display at Brandon Ag Days.

Welcome to the annual CORNERSTONE - More Bang for your Buck Bull Sale. I would like to thank those of you who purchased or attended in 2009 and send an invitation to bring along a friend or neighbor and join us again for the 2010 off ering. Lunch is on us before the sale so make sure and come early to view the bulls. We really do appreciate your support!!
These past few years have been interesting to say the least and many have left the industry. Let me assure you that WRAZ is here today and will be here tommorrow to serve your needs. We really do care about your needs as a customer and how we manage these bulls for the next owner. JM consulting (Kevin Wadham) has again done the feed testing and rations for this years bull pen. WRAZ bulls have been fed a high forage TMR ration on a daily basis since weaning. Wean to mid February they are fed and bedded 1/2 mile south of the yard. We feel strongly that exercise is an important part of managing these bulls and they walk to the yard each day for water. Mid Feb to sale time they are in a large pen at the yard. The last month the silage portion of the ration is slowly changed over to hay to prepare their rumen for a future diet of hay and eventually grass. WRAZ is on a vet assissted whole herd vaccination program and Phizer BoviGold program. Our goal at WRAZ is to have repeat customers who are very satisfi ed with the bulls they purchase and feel confi dent that if a problem should arise you can count on us!
The past is the past and we have no control over it! Lets look at the future. As I prepare this a few points come to mind:- futures market has been on a slow and steady increase
lately.- feed grains are defi nitely much lower than last winter.- locals who held back calves and sold just lately felt it
was worth it for a change.- Cull cow demand is strong and prices are defi nitely
higher.- Breds are defi nitely higher priced than for some time.- The cull bull market is strong.
You be the judge of what this means for the future of the industry and your operation. Keep in mind that the quality of your herdsire will directly aff ect the quality of your next set of calves. Top quality calves with eye appeal, a good coat of hair, some length and a top in them will always top the market and remain in demand.
If we can be of any assisstance in your selection please give myself, Chopper or any of the capable sales staff a call or better yet drop by the farm.

Here is the only Lead Pine 83L son in our offering. He is a hiefer bull with a little extra frame and plenty of dark red hair.
If you need a little different twist to your pedigree, here is a calving ease son of Squall, out of a black dam. His dam is out of our Christy cow family. She did a fi ne job on her fi rst try.
Thunder is a Squall son with some added punch from the dam side. With a Sept. 8 weight of 748 lb and a gain index of 105 he would be the stoutest Squall in the group. This is the kind of bull for a little more performance on those bigger heifers or calving ease for calving on the grass, without sacrifi cing performance.
Here is the heaviest Sept 8th weight at 834 pounds with a gain index of 106. Avalance is sired by Karweik and was a member of our Agribition pen of three as well as on dipslay at Brandon Ag Days. His dam is the cornerstone of our Christy cow family. She has two daughters in the herd, both have bulls in this offering (6W and 24W). A maternal brother was high seller in last years sale to Cudmore Farms. Avalance has a temperament second to none. This guy will add some weaning weight to your next calf crop. Recomended for cows.

Sedrick is sired by Led and born to travel. We took this pair on the road to Spruce Meadows this past July for the WAF. His Mulberry dam was purchased as a heifer at Red Roundup and placed second in class at Agribition that same fall. This cow family has a proven track record of breeder bulls and ET donors for Kevin and Kim Dorrance. This guy is worth a look!
Here is a calving ease specialist. He is sired by Squall and out of an Arab fi rst calver. Smoothy will let you get your rest while the heifers do it on their own.
Calving ease bull here. He is sired by Squall who has proven, consistent calving ease yet maintains growth, shape and eye appeal in his progeny…also, maternal calving ease.

This Get-A-Long Arab son entered the world at only 60 pounds but never looked back. Calving ease yet still above average in gain with an index of 102. His dam really did a good job as a fi rst calver. This one gets noticed in the pen. He has a tremendous coat of dark red hair in a very moderate, yet shapely package.
This one is Stout!! If you are looking to add some shape and thickness to your next crop of calves, then check this guy out. His Major League dam is moderate in stature with an abundance of milk. His sire is known for adding thickness and depth of body as well as good milking, solid females. If you need to add some milk and depth of body to your next set of replacements, then have a look at this one!
A little different pedigree here. A Cub out of a Black Red carrier. He has a little more frame and the cow family is good footed.

Above average gain index at 101 with a Sept 8th weight of 766 lbs. General is sired by our Icon bull we purchased as a high seller at the Northern Select Sale from Alvin Ginter. Icon was admired by many a commercial breeder at Ag Days ‘09 for his big, square hip. A maternal brother (second high selling bull in ‘09) is working for Bill, Tracy and family of Redrich Farms, Forestburg, AB.
This guy looks the part. Leonardo has lots of hair, thickness and butt. His dam is a real producer. A daughter, 14U, was selected for Red Roundup ‘08 and another daughter, 9T, produced our 2009 selection. Keep all his females! Have a good look at this one!

Icon should put a hip in them like his sire. Good hair coat here. He is out of a hard working, very moderate dam.
Here’s a bull for those of you who are not afraid of a little more calf at birth and need to add a little more frame. His dam is a great producer.
This Icon son is out of a moderate, hard working dam. He will put some grow in the next calf crop and leave you a great set of females as well. He had a gain index of 104. The third member of our Agribition pen of three.

Goshawk is a son of Soo Line Hawk 5292 and out of a great uddered dam. She is a maternal sister to the dam of 36W. This cow family can really get if done! This one is worth a good hard look too!
Bat Man is another one with an above average gain index of 103. His Bodacious dam will add some power here - she always has a good one. A maternal sister, 41U, was chosen for the Masterpiece sale at Agribition.

Long sided and full of grow explains this one. Gain index of 110 puts him over 3 lbs/day on mammas milk. This fella is going to mature into one big lad. If you need to add some length to push that scale down, then here is your man.
Here is another Icon son that will add some hip and hair to your calves as well as give you some great replacement females. Moderate dam here did a great job!

Here is an ET son out of Prime Rib 411. If this guy can make a female like his sire can, then he will be worth a try.
This Karweik started out in a little cooler atmosphere than would have been ideal, which left him a little short in the tail department. It may affect his looks a little, but not his ability to service a group of females. His dam is a very deep sided tank of a cow, but consistently has moderate birth weight progeny. Yearling growth is above average.

There is quite a bit of bull here for a fi rst time calver. He has an awesome hair coat, lots of grow to him (gain index is 117, placing him second in class on just mammas milk). With that kind of performance, yet calving ease, he could be quite an asset in the heifer pen or if you calve out on the grass. Do not miss this guy, as he is defi nitely worth a look!
Just above average in performance, but way above if you are retaining your females explains this one. We have a full sister to Ace in the herd and she is good. His dam is a template for the Angus female. I challenge you to fi nd a better foot on any age of cow and she is a “J”. Maria’s temperament is outstanding and she has passed it along to her progeny to date. She is long, beautifully fronted, wedge shaped, wide in the hip, structurally correct and a proven producer. All of Maria’s females have been retained to date. We used her fi rst bull on our commercial heifers last year and they are just starting to hit the ground as I write this. Proven track record herd!

This fella was born March 20. I really apppreciate the consistency of this Hawk sired group. Hawkness is out of an elite Boom 51H daughter. This guy, in my opinion, may be the sleeper of the Hawk group. Pretty consistent sire group, pretty good mamma, just a little less age than most of the others.
Here is the only one by our Indeed sire for this years sale. We had to give our new bulls a chance so he only got a few later ones. This one was born March 25, but you would never know it by watching ths scale on weigh day. He has pretty well caught up now and that is what his sire does. He has done a masterful job here producing both sexes. Come and see his females if you get the chance.
The latest born bull to make the cut. He is packed full of muscle in a moderate package. Less age but no less in the growth department. He has a gain index of 108 on milk only. His dam is a full sister to 84W, from our cornerstone Maria 2J cow family. If you use the bulls dam in your sire selection criteria, you will be happy with this one.
