Significant Event
On August 19 BFRD responded to a large weed fire
at 163rd & Yosemite. The fire was called in just
after 12:30 p.m. Winds and dry conditions didn't
help firefighters as they battled flames. However,
firefighters were able to protect a home and
outbuildings in the area, and the fire was contained.
The cause is under investigation. An estimated 17
acres burned in the fire.
BFRD Updates
The groundbreaking for new Fire Station 52 was
held on August 3. The new station will be located at
124 S. 40th Avenue. It is scheduled to open in
spring 2017, and will aid in serving the more than
50,000 residents in the Fire District. BFRD would
like to extend a special thanks to the community,
City of Brighton, School District 27J, and the
Brighton Fire staff, Fire Board & volunteers for all
of the support as the new station is built.
Brighton Fire Rescue District is pleased to announce
the addition of five new firefighter recruits to its
team! All five recruits have previous firefighting
experience and are now training to fulfill the
position of firefighter with BFRD. The trainees are
taking part in the 2016 North Area Fire Academy, a
13-week recruit training academy put on by eight
departments on the north side of the Denver Metro
Area. The graduation date is scheduled for
November 18.
In the Community Brighton Fire took part in the 2016 Adams County

the fair to provide emergency services. BFRD also
had a booth on both Kids Day and Senior Day, and
provided fair goers with fire safety messages.

reported weed fire. Attack 54 and Tender 54 arrived on scene and found a weed fire
approximately 10-12 acres in size with several structures threated. Due to the size of the

On August 13th at 02:09, Brighton Fire Rescue units were dispatched on a mutual aid call
with South Adams County Fire for a reported structure/weed fire in the area of 112th and
Tower Rd. Truck 53, Tender 53, Attack 54, Tender 54 and Battalion 51 responded.
Units arrived on scene at 21060 E 118th Ave and found a fully involved barn fire with fire
extending to the field and several vehicles. Crews from South Adams County and
Brighton Fire Rescue quickly contained the fire with little extension to the field around
the structure. Fire investigators determined that the fire was caused by an overloaded
extension cord which was supplying power to the barn. Eight horsed were killed as a
result of the fire.
On August 18th at 23:58, Engine 55 and Battalion 51 were requested on a second alarm
mutual aid response with Mountain View Fire Rescue on a working structure fire. Crews
responded and on arrival were assigned to perform fire attack in an exposure building
where fire had spread to the attic space. The fire was quickly contained to a small area of
the attic and the exposure was saved.
On August 25th at 21:58, Engine 55, Tender 55, Tender 54, Tender 52 and Battalion 51
were requested for mutual aid by North Metro Fire on a working structure fire in the 2600
block of E 168th Ave. Crews responded and on arrival were assigned to perform water
supply operations (Tender Water Shuttle) throughout the fire attack.
