About all-weather rattan

Bridgman offers the most luxurious rattan garden furniture, that is completely maintenance free and guaranteed to look good year after year. A combination of the best materials and most advanced production techniques ensures that Bridgman rattan furniture is resistant to extremes of U.V., heat, cold, chlorine and salt water – and above all else, stylish and comfortable.

Bridgman’s 2014 ranges consist of over one hundred and fifty different pieces in many different weaves, giving customers the widest possible choice from the largest selection available in the U.K.

All the furniture is manufactured to a high standard, using materials that require minimal maintenance. The furniture will retain its’ beautiful appearance for many years.Eachpieceofall-weatherrattanfurnitureisconstructedwithapowdercoated aluminium frame. The sturdy frame is covered with a high quality synthetic weave which is skilfully hand woven to create an attractive, strong and durable piece of furniture that is fully weather resistant.

Bridgman rattan furniture requires minimal maintenance. The aluminium frames andall-weatherrattanensureatroublefreelife.Theweaveisstrong,flexibleanddurable to high and low temperatures. The only action necessary is a simple wash using a solution of warm soapy water or our woven cleaner.

Cushions for all-weather rattan

Cushionsareautomaticallysuppliedwithallourrattanfurnitureinthecoloursshownorstated.Thecushionsaresumptuous,deepandcomfortableandentirelyinkeepingwiththeluxuriousfeelingthatiscreatedbyourall-weatherrattan ranges. The cushion fabrics are amongst the best that can be used for outdoor furniture and are colourfast and stain resistant. Coverscaneasilyberemovedforcleaningifrequired.Whilsttheoddshowerwillnotdamagethefabricsorfillings,these cushions should not be left outside in wet conditions.

Waterproof CushionsBridgman has developed an exclusive range of waterproof cushions that allows them to remain outside on the furniture throughout the season. These cushions are automatically supplied on selected models or available as an option where indicated.

The top quality Acrylic fabric is completely waterproofed with a special membrane that will not let water through the cushion surface. ThefabricusedisalsoTeflontreated,makingitalmostimpossibletostain. In order to breath, the cushions are vented, so a small amount of moisture will be absorbed inside the covers. In normal conditions this will quickly dry out and will not be noticed. Lifting or turning cushions to allow circulation of air is recommended after extended periods of rain. In the unlikely event that the fillings become saturated the covers must be removed, to allow the fillings to fully dry.

Bridgman waterproof cushions can be left out during the spring and summer months. They withstand hail, rain and sun.

Table tops and Glass

To ensure ease of use, all dining tables and some occasional tables are supplied with separate pieces of tempered safety glass that are placed on top of the weave and prevented from moving easily by small plastic discs.

It is recommended that waterproof cushions are stored in a dry place over the winter months. Please ensure that the covers and fillings are dry before storing. Please note that the colours of our standard and waterproof fabrics are different and should not be used in areas where an exact match is required.

Bridgman has been designing and selling Teak garden furniture for over two decades. Genuine Teak (Tectona grandis) is the premier timber for outdoor furniture. Teak combines its’ beautiful appearance with a strength and durability that is unequalled by any other timber. Teak has a close grain and a naturally high oil content that makes it both stable and resistant to rot.

All Bridgman Teak furniture is made with the finest kiln dried plantation grown timber from completely reputable and legal sources.

Each piece of furniture in this range has been designed and developed by Bridgman, using the experience and expertise gained over many years of manufacturing furniture. Meticulous care has been taken at every stage to create the various unique features that epitomise Bridgman style and innovation.

Much of the construction of the furniture is carried out using methods that are entirely traditional, but further enhanced with the advantage of modern and advanced manufacturing techniques. Traditional solid brass fittings feature on many pieces. Where extra strength is required, zinc plated steel fittings are incorporated. Both materials are entirely suitable for exterior use. The combination of old and new procedures ensure the highest standards of production and the ultimate quality of the furniture.

Environmental IssuesThe Teak Bridgman uses for its’ models comes mainly from the island of Java in Indonesia. It is grown in plantations and we are pleased to give our assurance that our Teak does not come from tropical rainforests. The plantations are nearly all owned and controlled by the Indonesian government department, Perum Perhutani. The Teak originates from plantations that were first established in the Indonesian islands about 150 years ago, by the Dutch. Perum Perhutani now manages most of these plantations, applying a policy of strict and careful cultivation, which began in the nineteenth century and has continued successfully to this present day. Bridgman maintains a policy of promoting good practice with regard to the origins of their timbers.

Aftercare of WoodAlltimbersusedinthemakingofouroutdoorrangesareclassifiedas“VeryDurable”.OurIROKOandTEAKfurnitureleaves the factory untreated. Dependent on personal taste, a prompt decision will need to be made regarding whether or not to treat the timber with any kind of wood finish.

To help maintain a more original appearance, the furniture should be treated with an application of Bridgman Treatment, or any other suitable product, always carefully following the manufacturers’ instructions. It is not necessary to treat the wood to ‘preserve it’. Treating the timber simply slows down the weathering process.

If left untreated, the furniture will gradually turn an attractive Silver Grey colour, which is an oxidization of the surface. Small cracks may appear, especially on the end grain, but these are perfectly normal characteristics and will not affect the strength or durability of the timber.

Whenre-treatingthefurnitureitisessentialtofirstcleanittoremoveanydirt,usingeitherascrubbingbrushandwarmsoapywater,orajetwash.Cleaningisabsolutely necessary otherwise a new application of treatment will seal in any dirt or marks. When completely dry, lightly sand the surfaces. Itisparticularlyimportanttosandoffanyweatheredareas,beforere-treating.

ReclaimedteakBridgman offers two substantial tables, made from high quality teak that has been reclaimed from old buildings and disused railways. The old timber has been given a new lease of life by being crafted into heavy duty dining tables with chunky legs, yet signs of its past use remain clearly visible.

Each table has different characteristics including knots, old joints, pin holes, splits and other distress marks,giving each piece of furniture a unique look. The tables are supplied untreated, so as not to spoil their rustic look and charm. Left untreated outside they will slowly turn an attractive silver grey colour.

Many of the chairs in our ranges, both traditional and modern, combine beautifully with these tables to make magnificent dining sets for indoor or outdoor use.

Bridgman’s contemporary aluminium range uses ceramic tiles for the table tops in combination with aluminium frames finished in an anthracite grey colour. The seating is made from a durable and breathable synthetic mesh fabric, which is pleasant to touch and extremely comfortable. The fabric is woven with strong polyester yarns that have been especially developed for outdoor furniture use. The fabric is completely weather resistant and has a high UV light stability.
