CAMPAIGNING PAY OFF!After years of campaigning by members ofthe Brentwood Bus & Rail Users Association, councillors and local residents the muchneeded Sunday bus service finally took tothe road on Sunday 4th October!
It follows a route between Brentwood HighStreet, Brentwood and Shenfield Stationsand can be picked up at Pondfield Lane,
Knights Way and Cherry Avenue. The service will be a trial for six months and thenbecome permanent if the demand is there.
Seventy eight passengers used it on the first Sunday it operated, however we need tobuild on these numbers to keep it going so please use it or we will lose it.
County Councillor David Kendall said “As the Association’s Secretary and the CountyCouncillor for the area I am delighted to have played a part in securing this Sundayservice, but it was very much a team effort that got us over the finishing line.
“A special mention must go to local bus user and Association Chairman Wendy Way
who never lost faith that we would achieve this great result. Well done to everyone .”

Kendall calls for increasedpolice presence on East Ham estate
Cllr David Kendall has asked for a greater police presence on the East
Ham estate to counter anti-social behaviour and other issues that are
causing concern . The police have responded positively to the request
by saying they will step up patrols in the area.
If you report a crime to the police please ask for an incident number to
ensure that your call is logged.
Your County Councillor David Kendall reports back....Newham Homes: David is supporting residents who are contesting the very large bills they have been sent byNewham Council for home improvements.Car Parking Charges: David has welcomed the free parking offered until the end of the year during the HighStreet improvements but says it is too little too late for many retailers. David will be pushing for a completereview into car parking charges in Brentwood.Information Centre: Originally requested by Cllr Kendall, opening the Information Centre on Saturdaysreceived cross-party support and will now shut for a half day in the week and open for a half day on Saturdaymaking it much easier to get additional orange and green recycling bags!Queens Road junction with Ingrave Road: Plans to widen this section of road have now been dropped due tocost and issues regarding land acquisition. A Puffin crossing in Queens Road is still going ahead.Bring Back the White Hart campaign: Our petition is still live on our website!Chatham Way Car Park – The new entry and exit barriers will soon be operational. Sunday and overnightparking charges will not be introduced.Primrose Hill: David has asked for a sign to discourage Sat Nav users from using this road as a cut-through.Brentwood Station: At a recent meeting with Kirit Varasani, Manager at Brentwood Station, Cllr David Kendall
was assured that the improvements were still going to happen. These include a newticket office, bike racks, disabled access lifts and ticket barriers. It is hoped that workwill start in April 2010.
Cllr Kendall has also been holding the Tories to account at County Council and askedabout rapid installation of fast, reliable and high capacity broadband across Essex, what they are doing to lobby the Government for automatic granting of smallbusiness rate relief to all eligible businesses and what is being done to address the
dramatic 34% increase in the level of complaints against Essex Police (way above the 8% national average andnow the third highest in England & Wales).
The Tories’ national opinion poll ratings seem to count for little in Brentwood wheretheir popularity seems to have nose dived. Week on week the local papers highlightstory after story that show them staggering from one crisis to another and thereseems little end in sight. Recent gems include:
The Liberal Democrats taking two seats of them at the County Council elections Resignations over plans to modernise the local Tory party U Turn on Sunday car parking charges at the Town Hall The Council’s £633,000 accounts slip up embarrassment Refusing public access to financial information
Local residents are now saying that the thirteen Lib Dem-controlled years weren’t sobad after all! If you want to help the local Lib Dems fight back call David for a chat!
