Regular attendance at school is essential to assist students to maximise their potential. Schools, in partnership with parents, are responsible for promoting the regular attendance of students. Encouraging regular attendance is a core school  responsibility  and  data  is  used  to  inform  and  identify  students  who  may  need  extra  support  in  re‐engagement. Children and young people will grow, flourish, do well and prosper if they have a sense of connection to their school and wider community. Regular attendance at school assists students to achieve quality life outcomes and helps them to develop confidence in positively shaping their own futures.  Focusing on positive relationships can support and  improve attendance. They reflect on and  implement strategies to  support  families,  carers and  students  to  re‐engage with  learning and  they work  flexibly  to achieve  this. They often  identify a key person  to monitor  the student, develop  the  relationship and provide  the necessary support. They engage meaningfully with the families or carers to strengthen connections to the school.  In 2019 we have set the goal to increase attendance and there will be incentives for individual students, classes and cohorts to increase their attendance and reach these goals. As parents and carers I encourage you to be part of this partnership to ensure the educational outcomes for your children are maximised.   Strategic plan 2018‐2022 The NSW Department of  Educa on  released  the five  year  Strategic Plan with  the  vision  ‘To be Australia’s best educa on  system  and  one  of  the  best  in  the world’.  The  plan  includes  10  goals.  Each  fortnight  I  have  been discussing one of  the goals and how  it  related  to Bowraville Central School. This week  I will unpack with Goal 7 ‘Educa on is a great place to work and our workforce is of the highest calibre.’   I am proud to have the dedicated team of teaching and non‐teaching staff at Bowraville Central School. Bowraville Central  School  is possibly  the  largest  employer  in  town  and many of our  staff  live  in  town,  contributing  to  the economy, culture and recreation of the town. As a resident of Bowraville myself I am proud to live and work in this great community. Education is a great place to work, we have the opportunity the share the dreams and hopes of young people. We also get to help our young people achieve these dreams through the power of education. This year we have appointed three new teachers to strengthen our teaching staff and provide quality teaching based on high expectations and growth. Every student is known, valued and cared for.   Combined Schools Fete The  Bowraville  Central  School  P&C  are  busy  organising  the  inaugural  Combined  Schools  Fete  to  be  held  at Bowraville Central School on the evening of 15 December culmina ng in Carols by Candlelight and the religh ng of the Christmas tree. Hope to see you all there on the night, I am sure there will be lots of Christmas stocking fillers available at the stalls as well as bouncy castles and a visit from Santa.    Best Regards, Dave Taylor

Got It! Tip of the Week

Slow things down and tune in to how your child is feel-ing. You might need to use your ears to listen to what she is saying; your eyes to notice her face, her body language, and what is going on around her; your imag-ination to put yourself in her shoes; your words to re-flect back what you hear and notice; and your heart, to feel what she is feeling. Let her know that you under-stand and accept her feelings, and that all feelings are OK. For example, you might say, “I think I would feel sad too if I lost my favourite toy”.
