The name ‘Boringdon’ comes from the Saxon ‘Burth-Y-Don’ meaning ‘enchanted place on the hill’.

With a past that stretches as far back as the Domesday Book, our grand Devonshire manor house holds a special place in history. In 1539, the house became crown property following the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII. Many distinguished guests have visited Boringdon over the years including Sir Francis, his uncle Sir Hawkins Richard Grenville, Sir Walter Raleigh and it is thought that Queen Elizabeth I stayed in 1588, on

her progress through the West Country.

Since 2011, Boringdon Hall has seen significant renovations, transforming it back to its former glory, with devotedly designed interiors, 42 rooms and suites, the magnificent and historic, Great Hall bar and three divine restaurants including the 3 AA Rosette awarded Gallery Restaurant. Gaia Spa, which opened in 2016, is a purpose-built wellness spa set within the grounds of Boringdon. Named Hotel Spa of the Year in Western Europe & Scandinavia at the World Spa and Wellness Awards and Condé Nast Johansen’s Best Destination Spa in the UK & Ireland. It is a completely unique space for relaxation and reconnecting with nature, designed with the need for complete wellbeing in mind.
