Teacher Leave and Replacements
Tom Bleicher will be absent during week one of next term,
on Leave. His classes will be picked up by various people
during this time.
Work Experience
The Year 10 and 11 students are participating in their
Work Experience week this week. Many students are in Melbourne but others are staying with
relatives in many parts of the state. I am sure that Mrs Moresi, Ms Pickering, Karen Coutts and Mr
Nickless will have some interesting stories to tell and photos to display in the newsletter next term.
Bogong
Many Year 9 and Year 10 students are at Bogong this week. Mr Rowley and Ms Hogan are
enjoying this ski trip with our students.
Try a VET Day
Last Friday, the North Central Network of Schools held its annual “Try a VET Careers Day” at
Charlton College. The day focusses on providing all Year 9 students and interested students from
Year 10 from Cluster schools the chance to experience, “hands on”, the nature of VET subjects.
Students chose to participate in three, one-hour sessions on the day from a selection of 11 studies.
Students were provided with information about the courses on offer and future career paths.
Whole School Assembly
This Friday will see our final assembly for the term. Dismissal will take place at 2.30pm. Parents
and Families are invited to attend.

opportunity to walk through the simulator aeroplane.
Our school would like to take this opportunity to support the RFDS. We will have a dress up day on the 22nd
July. Students are invited to dress up as a nurse, pilot, doctor etc… for a gold coin donation, proceeds to
RFDS.

Peer Support
Over the past eight weeks, Years 2 - 5 have been involved in the Peer Support program. The Year 6 students
lead and encouraged a small group throughout the eight weeks. In the groups, there were approximately
7 - 10 students. The main focus for Peer Support this year was Resilience. We worked on a three-step model
called Pause, Plan and Proceed. Each session we did about 3 - 4 activities, some of which were Caterpillar
Jump, Memory, Triangle Switch and Crab Relay. Peer Support helped us to improve our time management
skills, be organised and prepared and made us feel more confident when speaking in front of an audience.

Foundations’ 100 days of school:
This Friday marks the Foundation students’ 86th day of school at BDS.
We are counting up to our 100th day of school, and are eager to celebrate this milestone. Our 100th Day of
School will be celebrated on Thursday, 1st August.
More information to follow early Term 3 regarding our celebrations for this special event.

Semester 2 Subjects For Year 7-11 Students
All students have received information this week or last week regarding their subjects for Semester 2. They
can organise their folders on this basis and be ready to start. They are to bring the slip of paper along so that
they can organise their timetable.
Gateways at Salute Olives
We would like to thank Peter and Marleise for their time, taking us around their grove and highlighting the
way in which they run their business. There was also considerable discussion about the role of food science
in many of our Agriculture and Horticulture areas.
Bird Rescue
We would like to thank the Boort CFA for rescuing a bird, caught in
some thread on top of a sail. The bird was transferred to the VET for
safekeeping.
Student Uniform – Parent / Carer Support Required!
As we have moved into colder weather, students are wearing coats and beanies to school. We encourage
this, even at recess and lunchtime when student are outside. We ask parents / carers not to allow students to
leave home with “hoodies” under their t-shirts. They can wear layers of other clothing under their school t-
shirts. Dealing with this issue is taking up too much time and is negative in nature.

Grandparents and Special Friends Day:
The BDS Parents' Club were very pleased to see so many Grandparents and Special Friends in attendance
at the F-6 event on Monday, 17th June. The students were excited to show their visitors around the
classroom and share some activities and games throughout the morning. The Silver & Grey buildings were
certainly bustling with activity and it was nice to see the students, staff and special visitors all enjoying
themselves. Thank you to all of the F-6 staff who worked hard to co-ordinate the event and provide this
valuable opportunity for our BDS families.
We were delighted to provide a scrumptious morning tea which was shared in the Silver building. A huge
thank you to all of the families who kindly donated a plate of food to share - this was very much
appreciated. Thank you so much to our Parents' Club helpers in the kitchen too - Stacey Streader, Eloise
Thompson, Brooke Arnold, Sherryn O'Flaherty and Madeleine Scott.
On another note, the Parents' Club are pleased to confirm that we have purchased some new storage
cabinets for the Silver building. The staff are looking forward to making the most of this new storage facility
in the shared area. The new cabinetry will be installed over the holidays!
Enjoy the break and we look forward to seeing you again in Term 3!
Kathryn Lanyon
BDS Parents' Club President
Thank you:
Staff and students wish to thank our special visitors for making the effort to share the morning with us on
Grandparents and Special Friends Day. Another thanks to our Parent’s Club executive and their team of
helpers for hosting a morning tea for visitors. We look forward to this event each year, as it is a wonderful
time to share the work and progress of the students with their special guests.

Country
The country is open, dry most of the time.
But when it rains… the crops pop out
and the wildlife come out.
Oh no here comes the drought,
you better watch out.
The animals die and the birds don’t fly.
By Will and Tom
SEASONS
Candescent heat, charring the earth
Paddocks of gold, running for miles
Misty fog. An opaque coat, shielding the sun
The crunch of the early morn frost, splintering under foot
The hum of the headers as they strip the paddocks
Familiar dust, greeting you
Smoke of the burning wood climbing through your lungs
The chill of the cold, stirring within
The rush of gliding through water, feeling invincible
Dust filling your senses, becoming the norm
And the feeling of a warm drink, relief from the cold
Lily
Winter
By Sophie The warm liquid texture, curled up under
the roaring red flame
The pitter-patter hitting the court, with
the cheers from winning a netball game
The wet ugg boots as smelly as rotten
socks
The feeling of the icy-cold, as it reaches
its fingers into my golden locks
The sweet sticky marshmallow reaching
our bitter, brittle tongues
