A note for visitors: Were thankful that you could join us for worship today, and wepray God blesses you in your time here. The service is printed in your bulletin. If youhave any questions dont hesitate to ask someone around you!

St. Francis Church wants to encourage families to worship together. The practice ofdividing families for worship is a modern invention and is often detrimental to the goalof worshipping as a body. In order to be a community where all ages feel welcome,we provide coloring materials for children to use during worship and seek to be a

community that understands the specic gifts and challenges that children bring. Weencourage you, should you feel comfortable doing so, to sit toward the front with yourchildren, as little-ones are often more attentive if they can see what is happening.

That being said, we understand that there may be times when it is best to takeadvantage of child care, which we have available in the room immediately through theKitchen off of the entryway.

In Preparation for worship: We invite you to take a few moments before the service

begins to be still, and rest from the business of your lives. Take time to breathe deeply, and reect upon the past week. When youre ready, you might say the following prayeror one like it in preparation for worship.

O Almighty God, who pours out on all who desire it the spirit of grace andof supplication: Deliver us, when we draw near to you, from coldness ofheart and wanderings of mind, that with steadfast thoughts and kindledaffections we may worship you in spirit and in truth; though Jesus Christour Lord. Amen.

    Collect of the Day:

Keep, O Lord, your household the Church in your steadfast faith and love, that throughyour grace we may proclaim your truth with boldness, and minister your justice withcompassion; for the sake of our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you andthe Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

    First Reading: Exodus 19:2-8a

    All sit.

The Lord tells the Israelites that he has delivered them from slavery in Egypt becausethey are his own people. They will be his holy nation if they keep his commandments.

A Reading from the book of Exodus.

When the people of Israel set out from Rephidim and came into the wilderness of Sinai, and they encamped in the wilderness. There Israel encamped before the mountain, whileMoses went up to God. The Lord called to him out of the mountain, saying, Thus youshall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the people of Israel: You yourselves have seen whatI did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles wings and brought you to myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be mytreasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; and you shall be to mea kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to thepeople of Israel.

So Moses came and called the elders of the people and set before them all these words that

the Lord had commanded him. All the people answered together and said, All that theLord has spoken we will do. And Moses reported the words of the people to the Lord.

Reader: The Word of the Lord.People: Thanks be to God.

The Psalm of the day:Remain seated

    Psalm 100Jubilate Deo

1 Be joyful in the Lord, all you lands; *serve the Lord with gladnessand come before his presence with a song.

2 Know this: The Lord himself is God; *he himself has made us, and we are his;we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.

3 Enter his gates with thanksgiving;go into his courts with praise; *give thanks to him and call upon his Name.

    4 For the Lord is good;

his mercy is everlasting; *and his faithfulness endures from age to age.

    Second Reading: Romans 5:1-8

Jesus willingness to give his life for sinners perfectly demonstrates Gods love for allpeople. Because of that love, we can be condent of our hope in sharing in eternal glory.

A Reading from Pauls letter to the Church in Rome.

Therefore, since we are justied by faith, we have peace with God through our LordJesus Christ. Through him we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in our hope of sharing the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice inour sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance producescharacter, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because Godslove has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given tous. While we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Why, one will

hardly die for a righteous manthough perhaps for a good man one will dare even to die.But God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.

    Holy Gospel: Matthew 9:3510:23All stand.

Jesus spreads the good news as he teaches, preaches and heals, then sends out hisdisciples to do the same, proclaiming to the lost that the kingdom of heaven is near.

Gospeller: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to _______.People: Glory to you, Lord Christ.

And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues andpreaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every inrmity. Whenhe saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, The harvest is plentiful, butthe laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into hisharvest. And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over uncleanspirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every inrmity. The names of thetwelve apostles are these: rst, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James

the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthewthe tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. These twelve Jesus sent out, charging them, Gonowhere among the Gentiles, and enter no town of the Samaritans, but go rather to thelost sheep of the house of Israel. And preach as you go, saying, The kingdom of heavenis at hand. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You receivedwithout paying, give without pay.

The Sanctus: S-130Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might,

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest.

Please stand or kneel at this time, as best helps you to pray.

Holy and gracious Father: In your innite love you made us for yourself; and, when wehad fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent JesusChrist, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one ofus, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.

He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, aperfect sacrice for the whole world.

On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ tookbread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, andsaid, Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance ofme. After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shedfor you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for theremembrance of me.

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:

Christ has died.Christ is risen.Christ will come again.

We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrice of praise andthanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts.

Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son,

the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we mayfaithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; andat the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom.

All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ. By him, and with him, and in him, in theunity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever.

    AMEN.

And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed by thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,

    A Note on Todays Readings

Proper 6: Sunday closest to June 15Year A

Welcome to St. Francis Church. The three readings today provide us with insight intowho we are as the people of God. The Gospel reading is the account of the calling andcommissioning of the twelve apostles. They are sent forth with the message of Gods

kingdom. Later Jesus will send larger groups to proclaim the good news and after hisresurrection, he sends all of us into the world to bear the message.

The rst reading takes us back to the time of the Exodus. God afrms the covenant withIsrael and then gives the people of God their identity: to God they are a kingdom of priestsand a holy nation. These words are repeated about the church in the New Testament, especially in 1 Peter.

Todays reading from Romans tells us something else about our identity. We are a people

who have been reconciled with God through Jesus death. As Paul states in the chapter thatfollows, we have been incorporated into that death by baptism and thus our reconciliationwith God is complete.

As a people called to proclaim good news, to live lives reconciled to God, and to be the holypriesthood of the new covenant, we gather to celebrate the mysteries of that covenant. TheEucharistic meal also reveals us as a people, like Abraham and Sarah who meet God inholy meals and nd ourselves called by God into community with God.
