the east of the Bodhi Tree that houses alarge, gilded black stone image of theBuddha in the bhumisparsha mudra (‘earth-touching posture’); the carved, sculptedstone railing around the temple, believed tohave been built around the 1st century BCE;and stupas and structures thatcommemorate events during the sevenweeks that the Buddha spent here in a stateof bliss after his enlightenment.
