2St Michael & All Angels’ Church, BodenhamDear Friends, ONE WORLD WEEK OCTOBER 23RD -30THIn 1978, One World Week (OWW) was founded by the World Development Movement out of a desire that, for one week in every year, there should be an opportunity for people from diverse backgrounds to come together to learn about global justice, to spread that learning and to use it to take action for justice locally and globally. Every October, before One World Week, we are encouraged to hold a week of prayer for world peace. While we pray for peace every day in our homes and churches and chapels, this special week helps us to focus our attention on our one world and pray for projects, people and aid agencies. A special week helps us to build awareness of the great divisions in our world, and the inequalities people of different cultures suffer daily. Archbishop Desmond Tutu has spent his life serving in a country where injustice was rife, he still works across the world to bring healing and reconciliation to conflicted communities. This prayer written by him, has been chosen as one of the prayers we might use this October, and at all times when we pray for our one world and the strength to make it a better place.

Disturb us, O Lord when we are too well-pleased with ourselves when our dreams have come true because we dreamed too little, because we sailed too close to the shore. Disturb us, O Lord when with the abundance of things we possess, we have lost our thirst for the water of life, when, having fallen in love with time, we have ceased to dream of eternity, and in our efforts to build a new earth, we have allowed our vision of Heaven to grow dim. Stir us, O Lord to dare more boldly, to venture into wider seas where storms show Thy mastery, where losing sight of land, we shall find the stars. In the name of Him who pushed back the horizons of our hopes and invited the brave to follow. Amen Yours in Christ, Heather

Annual Canvass 2016/17 The Herefordshire Annual Canvass starts on 12th September. The purpose of the Canvass is to compile an accurate Electoral Register, which will be published on 1st February 2017. The Canvass will happen in a similar way to previous years: every residential property in the county will be sent a Household Enquiry Form (HEF). This form will show all members of the household currently registered to vote. The Household is then responsible for confirming the details, or adding or deleting electors as appropriate. Any resident aged 18 or over can complete the HEF on behalf of the whole household. It is a legal requirement that the HEF is completed and returned from every property.

Parish meetings The next meeting of the Parish Council will take place at 7.30pm Monday 3rd October at the Siward James Centre. The agenda and draft minutes of the previous meeting will be placed in advance on the parish website (www.bodenhamparish.org.uk) . The agenda will be posted on the parish noticeboards. Everyone is most welcome to attend and raise any matters of concern during the slot reserved for this purpose. If you prefer, you can raise matters in advance by contacting Chris Smith, Parish Clerk, on 01568 797132 or by email at [email protected].

The parish website………….. is continually updated. Find the latest news on the Bodenham Neighbourhood Plan there. The Home page now shows a list of future events in chronological order, as well as the latest notices, addresses to go to find out about Bodenham past, present and future, local news and crime prevention alerts. www.bodenhamparish.org.uk is the website address. You can also find the Bodenham Newsletter there.

5CONSULTATION ON THE DRAFT

NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN

A team of volunteers has distributed copies of the draft Neighbourhood Plan to households and businesses throughout Bodenham Parish in time for the ‘Regulation 14’ Consultation which starts on Monday, 3 October and then lasts for six weeks, ending on Monday, 14 November. If you live in Bodenham Parish, run a business in the Parish, or have a home elsewhere but work here, this is YOUR chance to have YOUR say on how YOUR Parish should develop over the next fifteen years, and on into the future. So please let us have YOUR comments on any aspect of the draft Plan, for example: * What it says with which you particularly agree or disagree;

* Where you think it goes too far or not far enough (always remembering that it has to comply with national planning policy and with Herefordshire Council’s Local Plan);

* Where you think it has overlooked an important issue (always remembering that such matters as road safety fall outside the scope of the Plan and have to be covered by regulations);

* Where you think it doesn’t express something clearly enough, or it contains a factual error.

You will find the form for comments in each printed copy of the Plan and the same form is also available for downloading in both MS Word and pdf versions from the Parish Website at http://www.bodenhamparish.org.uk/neighbourhoodplan.asp. (If you wish, you can also find links to a pdf copy of the draft Plan itself and to a lot of other supporting documents on the same page of the Website). Although, for reasons of cost, only one printed copy is being delivered to each household and business, this does NOT mean that only one person in each household or business can comment on the draft Plan – EVERYBODY living and/ or working in the Parish can submit as many comments on the Plan as they like. All comments, together with the Parish Council’s responses to them, will be recorded in the report on the outcome of the Consultation which will be published once it is finished. You can let us have your comments at any time, so long as you get them to us before the deadline of 5.00pm on Sunday 20 November, and sending in your completed form is easy:* You can e-mail it to [email protected] ;

* You can put it in one of the special boxes at Saffron’s Cross Garage, or Bodenham Post Office, or in the plastic box in the rear porch at Millcroft Farm; or

* You can post it to Millcroft Farm, Bodenham, Herefordshire HR1 3LA.

We look forward to hearing from YOU!The Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group

14Hampton Ward Newsletter: September

The Herefordshire Enterprise Zone continues to expand with new job opportunities being created on a regular basis. Some 13,000sqm of refurbished premises have recently been created following 10 individual land sales. A further 13 land sales are now in the pipeline which could all result in well over 1,000 new job opportunities. The new Hereford By-Pass was recently granted planning permission for the initial stage, known as the Southern Link Road. This will run from the A49 just south of the city at the new roundabout at Rotherwas, to the A465 to the west of Belmont. A vital new road bridge over the Wye will eventually re-connect to the A49 just north of Holmer. All being well, the new by-pass should be open by 2027. The Council’s web site is now being re-designed to make it more user friendly. Residents accessing the current site are often frustrated at not being able to find the information they’re looking for and the new site will try to avoid ‘council speak’ and some different and more relevant language will be introduced, such as ‘footpaths’ instead of ‘public rights of way’ etc. The old council offices at Bath Street have now been sold to a housing association and it’s hoped that planning permission will soon be granted to allow some much needed city centre housing to be built. On the subject of planning, there have been no new permissions granted for any substantial developments in the Ward during the summer months. Balfour Beatty Living Places (BBLP) are now well advanced with the second verge cut of the year and some long awaited main drainage works are being carried out, but as yet they haven’t reached this Ward. However, the serious flooding issues in Bodenham are now being addressed and we should have an idea of the required works, and their eventual costs, by the end of the year. Finally, the county’s children have achieved better GCSE results than in many other areas of the UK, which is great news considering the national decline in standards.Keep well and stay safe.Cllr Bruce BakerHampton Ward

Barbeque and Jazz in the Churchyard.

Many thanks to all those who supported this event on 20th

August, and cheerfully survived the windy conditions!

Good music and food certainly made up for the weather and a little over £500 was raised for

Church funds, so a great result.

The next fund raising event will be the Christmas Bazaar in the

Parish Hall on Saturday 3rd December.

See you there.Margaret Minchin
