I have obtained some wonderful information concerning your voyage to the new world

and your future career. You, based on my research, should settle in the wonderful colony of

Virginia in the Chesapeake Bay. Virginia is a great colony for farming, living, and pursuing a

tremendous life, gaining much money, which is exactly what you would like to do.

Virginia was formed and settled by the joint stock company, the Virginia Company. This

company, given responsibility by King James I, came to the new world in search of gold. There

was, however, no gold in Virginia.

Virginia is a great colony for planting and farming tobacco. The tobacco they grow is a

wonderful blend of English and Native American tobacco plants. Due to this cross-breeding,

some of the world’s finest tobacco is produced. The king has a strong dislike for this tobacco and

thinks it is completely distasteful; however, he is the only one in all of England. This is a great

business venture and I believe you would do extremely well in this line of work.

You should also sponsor an indentured servant. Indentured servitude, as part of the

Headright system is a great way to gain land and start of on the right foot in the New World. If

you sponsor an indentured servant, they must serve 5-7 years before receiving their freedom

dues. Both of you receive 50 acres of land in order to start out your new life. You can use this to

plant tobacco and start a plantation.

The best time for you to sail and arrive in Virginia is after 1610. 1609-1610 was the

“starving time.” This was a time in which only 60 of the original 500 colonists survived the

incredibly long, harsh winter. This is one pitfall you should definitely avoid. Another pitfall is

the incessant amount of mosquitos and other insects the swamps of VA. The only advice I can

give you for this is to bring lots of bug spray!
