    HISTORY

The technology was born in 1994.

The first version was released July 1999. The projected low cost of a Bluetooth chip is

    ~$5.

In 1998 Intel, Ericsson, IBM, Nokia, andToshiba formed the Bluetooth SpecialInterest Group (SIG).

To date, 800 companies world wide are

    IMPLEMENTATION

    Uses a radio technology called

    FREQUENCY-HOPPING SPREADSPECTRUM.

Data exchanges through a secure, globallyunlicensed Industrial, Scientific and Medical

(ISM) 2.4 GHz short-range radio frequencybandwidth.

    ARCHITECTURE

Bluetooth devices are organized into groups,

called piconets. A device can belong to more than one

    piconets.

    Multiple piconets with overlapping coverage

    areas form a scatternet.
