September turned into a very busy month for our club and the Lexington car community. The month started with our Multi-marque Cars & Coffee on the 5th. With over 100 cars attending, we had a fantastic turnout. We had cars of all types from Hot Rods to Classic Luxury. In addition to some very cool pick-up trucks we had Tweety bird land in a classic VW. Basically it was a major fun time!! Saturday turned out to be a threefer for me. After our MM/C&C I attended the Hot Rod Hullabaloo and admired customized cruiser and everything from “Rat Rods” to major track funny cars. I rounded the day by attending the close of season drive-in at Southerland Chevrolet in Nicholasville. This event is primarily a Corvette/Chevrolet gathering but they were very accepting of Porsches and BMWs. We had a very light turnout at the September Social. The food at Mi Mexico was very good and the eight attendees had great discussions ranging from com-mon shared military experiences to the latest happen-ings at Porsche. It was a good time and a great op-portunity to meet new members. I attended my first Rennsport Reunion over the Sep-tember 25-27 weekend. It was a super gathering of 57,000 Porschephiles at the Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, Ca. It was a fantastic event! The oppor-tunity so see so many historical and contemporary Porsches perform on the track was totally awesome. In addition to the track activity, there were large cor-rals for all types of Porsches from 356, 911, GT3, and Boxster. The historical display was fabulous. It was great to see Larry Woods, Paul and Maureen Elwyn as well as Robert McClelland at the event. The Elwyns and Robert drove their Porsches to the event. What a neat trip to make in a Porsche!! October will be another busy month for us. Our last outdoor Multi-marque Cars & Coffee for the year was October 3. Despite it being a cold, wet gathering, we had over 20 vehicles attend. A highlight of the event was when one of the participants showed up with a 200 pound watermelon. Needless to say it did not need to be chilled. I also attended a display of Clas-sic Car Club of America vehicles at Keeneland after our Cars & Coffee. More details of both events in the November Rumble. Our October Porsche Cars & Coffee will be held at

the Cosi Restaurant in the Hamburg shopping com-plex. Normal timing of 9 – 11 a.m. Our Fall Drive will be October 17 with an option to stay overnight and make it a two day event. Another option will be to skip the Fall Drive but come to Gray-son to spend an evening with us at the Womack’s. More info to come via email blast. Please note the Election information given later in this issue of Rumble. If you have any questions, let me know. Also, if you ordered a name badge from Ed, he left me holding the badge bag. So, see me at your next event to get your badge. See ya at a Porsche event soon. Ken

In the “you never know what you will find in Central Kentucky” files, check out this 918 Spyder parked on the street in Midway on a warm Saturday in October! I never ran into the owner while I was taking some photos but I did run into several other onlookers who thought it was mine (I was wearing my Porsche hat) so I obliged in answering questions about the car anyhow.

October begins annual election time for the Bluegrass Region. According to our region bylaws, each year a Nominating Committee is appointed to identify and select the best possible slate of can-didates to lead our region. Members of this year’s Nominating Committee are Ken Hold, Ed Stever-son and Jamie Donaldson. A part of the Committee’s responsibility is seeking input from region membership. Region officer roles are annual with a limit of three consecutive terms. Our four Direc-tor roles have two year terms with two of the four Directors being elected each year. If you are inter-ested in participating as a Region Officer or Director, either for this election or possible future elec-tions please contact a member of the Nominating Committee. This year, offices for Vice-President and Secretary need to be filled as well as two Director Roles. Suggestion for individuals for filling these roles should be made to the Nominating Commit-tee by November 9, 2015. A slate of nominations will be presented at the November 15, 2015 Monthly Social. Additional nominations may be made by members at that meeting. Ballots will be mailed out December 1, 2015 and returned to this year’s Election Chairman, Jim Brandon by December 15, 2015. Election results will be published in the January 2016 Rumble and announced at the January Membership Meeting. If you have any questions please contact any member of the Nominating Committee. Porsche racing fans, here is some late breaking news… With a win at Petite Le Mans at Road Atlanta, Por-sche and their Driver Patrick Pilet, have clinched the Drivers, Team, and Manufacturers championships in the hotly contested GTLM class in the Tudor United SportsCar Championship Series. Going into the final race at Road Atlanta, Porsche, BMW, and Corvette all had the ability to win the series. Race day presented huge challenges to all of the drivers in an event marked by endless downpours, wrecks, cautions, and black-flag periods. By hanging-on through the chaos, the #911 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR co-driven by Patrick Pilet and Nick Tandy was able to secure the win in a race cut short by the weather.

Patrick Pilet Leading the Field at a Soggy Road Atlanta While Patrick Pilet was the championship winning driver (and a very nice guy, based on my limited experi-ence), his Road Atlanta winning teammate Nick Tandy adds another win to a brilliant season where his crowning achievement was winning the overall prototype class at Le Mans in a Porsche 919. The Tudor championship is America’s greatest sports car racing series, and while the season is over, we con-tinue to cheer for Porsche in 2015 on the world stage. The World Endurance Championship still has 3 races to contend. Currently, Porsche holds a large points lead in the Prototype Manufacturers Championship, and sits just 2 points behind Ferrari in the GT Manufacturers Cup. All-in-all, 2015 was a breakout year for Porsche in the highest level of motorsports competition. The best part; this was just the beginning. Porsche race cars are all new designs with many competitive seasons to come. Be sure to check out the remaining WEC action this year and the kickoff of the 2016 Tudor season at Daytona in January.

On a more personal note, my old friend Eric Zimmermann finished 9th overall in ST class in the Continental Tire Challenge, the sister series to the Tudor USCC. Eric and his co-driver, Greg Leifooghe, drive the #83 Porsche Cayman for the Next Level European team. The highlight of their season was a win at Sebring.

Eric Zimmermann and Me in the Next Level European Trailer at Watkins Glen

Eric is a friend of many of us in the region. He began track driving at PCA DE events. I was extremely fortu-nate to have Eric as my very first PCA driving instructor, and I credit him for starting me off on the right foot in this sport. To this day, my track buddies and I keep in touch with Eric, and rely on him for answers to awk-

ward track day questions and car set-up issues. Additionally, he has been super-gracious at his Continental events where he and his Bimmerworld / Next Level European teammates are always quick to host me, and my father, as visitors on a number of occasions. Congratulations Eric. In addition to Eric, I’d also like to recognize Matt Dicken who finished 17th in the series – also driving a Por-sche Cayman. Many of us know Matt from the KYPCA DE events at Putnam Park where he has been a par-ticipant for years. Matt is now in professional racing with Continental, and represents our area and Porsche well.

Matt & Team Practicing Pit Stop Driver Switch-Overs

Finally, one last mention, Brian Faessler finished 25th in the Continental Tire Challenge GS class. Brian only ran two races at the end of the season (Road America and VIR) where his strong performances placed him in the year-end series points. A number of us run NASA (National AutoSport Association) Great Lakes regional events with Brian and his father Paul. In fact, Paul’s shop in Cincinnati builds many of the region’s strongest racecars, and provides services to the local racing community (my NASA dyno certifications are run at Pauls Automotive in Cincinnati).

I am always shocked by the positive impact motorsports involvement has had on my life. Many of my best friendships have been formed around motorsports. I know racing folks around the globe, and as time pro-gresses; it’s humbling to see them move on to greater things in this sport, many of these include Porsche. If you have interest in joining us at any upcoming event, or would like more information on PCA DE events and what is required to join-in, please feel free to contact me: [email protected]

Red 1987 944S. I'm the original owner. It' has a little over 98K miles on it. It's spent most of its non-driving life in a garage including about 14 years while I was working in Europe. I've spent a consider-able amount on it with Porsche of the Village in Cincinnati so a lot of the deteriorating parts under the hood have been recently replaced. The leather seats are in good condition as is the interior for the most part. I've recently replaced the little gear that fails in the Odo. The exterior is OK but has a good bit of oxidation on the roof and rear quarter panels. It's fun as hell to drive, I'm asking $5900. Contact Steve Hamrin 859-648-0189 [email protected]

I have a 1986 944 Turbo that I would like to find a new home for. It is very original white with a black interior. The car has approximately 165,000 miles, manual transmission with open differential. It is a rebuilt title vehi-cle. It was hit in the left rear 1/4 panel. Sheet metal damage only. I know the shop where it was repaired and we have no idea why it was salvage titled. Here is a quick list of the non-original items: Billy Boat Exhaust manifold, the OEM cracked up Pioneer radio, I have the original cassette player which only kind of works very poorly. No wires were cut to install it. Catalytic converter bypass pipe, I do have the con-verter. Within the last 10,000 miles, timing belts, rollers, and water pump were replace. New TK26 (OEM) turbo-charger. All the coolant hoses, replaced. Everything works including the AC blows cold, might need charged, but I would do that. The "issues"/needed items: Rear Camber adjustment Rear Tires It idles rough, I am sure there is a vacuum leak in the hoses. I have all the gaskets and hoses to do the job just haven't done it.
