AC Functions:TheACsystemallowsformonitoringoftheACvoltage,frequencyandcurrentlevels.Highandlowalarmscanbeconfiguredforeachofthese.

DC Functions:TheDCsystemmonitorsthevoltagelevelsonuptothreebatteries,aswellasthecurrentdrawonthebatteryonwhichstateofchargeisbeingmonitored.Highandlowlimitscanbesetforthevoltageoneachbattery.AhighcurrentalarmcanalsobesetonthebatterymonitoredforStateofCharge.

State of Charge (SOC):StateofChargegivesfeedbackonhow“full”thebatteryiswithusableenergy.Thesystemkeepstrackoftheamphours(Ah)remainingonthebattery,thechargecyclesonthebattery,andthetemperatureofthebattery.LowStateofChargeandhighbatterytemperaturealarmscanbeset.Withthelowstateofchargealarmset,theVSM422showsthetimeremaininguntilthealarmwillactivate,atboththecurrentpowerusageandattheaveragepowerusageforthelast20minutes.

Tank Functions:TheVSM422iscapableofmonitoringuptothreetanks.Thesystemhasanautocalibrationroutineforgeneratingatankshapeprofilefornon-rectangulartanks.Tankstatuscanberepresentedinbothcapacity(gallonsorliters)orasapercentageofcapacity.Anti-sloshroutinesarebuiltintoincreaseaccuracyofreadings.Bothhighandlowlevelalarmscanbesetforalltanks.

Bilge Functions:TheVSM422monitorsthecurrentrunstatusofthepump,thetimerunninginthelasthour,thecyclesinthelast24hours,andthetotalcyclessincethelastcyclereset.Highalarmscanbesetforboththeminutesofruntimeinthelasthour,aswellasthenumberofcyclesinthelast24hours.

MOUNTING CONSIDERATIONS

TheVesselSystemMonitorhasthreemountingmethods:surfacemount,flatpanelmount,and360panelmount.Whensurfacemountedusingthesuppliedgasket,anIP67waterproofratingiscreatedforthefrontoftheunit.Becausepanelmountingsystemsarenotwaterproof,theunitshouldnotbepanelmountedinanexposedlocation.Forallmountings,thebackoftheunitisnotwaterproofandmustbekeptdry.

DC CurrentTheshuntmustbeplacedbetweenthenegativeterminalonBattery1andthemainnegativebus.All loads and charge sources should have their negative terminals on the main negative bus,withtheexceptionoftheVSM422negativesourcewhichmustbeconnecteddirectlytothebatterysideoftheshunt.ShuntsensewiresmustbeatwistedpairfromshunttoVSM422forpropercalculationofStateofCharge(SOC).Twistedpairwirecanbepurchasedfromelectricalsupplycompanies,ormadebytwistingbyhandorwithanelectricdrillmotor.ThecurrentreadingforBattery1whenitisnotbeingchargedandhasaloadshouldbenegative.Ifitisnot,reversetheDCshuntleads.(seepage95)

DC VoltageVoltagelinestotheVSM422shouldbedirectlyconnectedtothepositivebatteryterminalwithadedicatedwireaheadofanyotherconnections.ThiswillensurecorrectvoltageandSOCmonitoring.Useanappropriatein-linefuse(5Asuggested)onthepositivewire.

AC CurrentInmostcasestheACCurrentTransformershouldbelocatedonthemainACfeedbeforeanyotherdevices.Seehttp://bluesea.com/viewresource/86formoreinformationonACCurrentTransformerlocation.Thelocationdoesnotaffectstateofcharge(SOC)calculations.

TheCurrentTransformerdoesnotindicatepolarity.IfACvoltageisappliedandcurrentshowsgreaterthanzerobutthepowerreadingiszerooranegativevalue,reversetheACCurrentTransformerleads.Theleadsshouldbetwistedtoreducetheeffectsofinterference.

SomescreenssuchasSTATE OF CHARGE and LARGE DISPLAYhaveaMOREbutton;thiscanbeusedtocyclethroughtheinformationthatisnotvisibleononescreen.Insomesetupscreens<- and ->arrowswillbeshown.Theseindicatethattheselectionoptionscontinueonascreenthatisdisplayedwhentheuserhasscrolledpastthetoporbottomofthescreen.Thedatafieldsforbothsummaryscreenscanbecustomizedthroughdisplaysetup.

TheVSM422willnotproduceaccuratereadingsifasecondgaugeisconnectedtothesametanksender.Installasenderforeachgaugeifyouwishtoreadatanklevelfrommorethanonelocation.

TheBlueSeaSystemsultrasonicsenderrequiresanexternalpowersource.Whenpowertothesenderislost,theVSM422willreadthetankasfull,andmaytriggerthetank’shighlevelalarm.

Foreachtankthesendermustbespecified,andtheshapeofthetanksetasrectangularorauto-calibratedbeforeaccuratereadingsaredisplayed.

WARRANTY

All Blue Sea Systems digital meters are warranted to be free from defects in materials or workmanship for three years from the date of first purchase.

“Date of first purchase” means:

(i) thedateonwhichtheproductwaspurchasedbythefirst retailcustomer.

(ii)thedateonwhichthefirstretailcustomerpurchasesavesselon whichtheproductwasinstalled.

Blue Sea Systems will (at its sole discretion) repair or replace any product which is: (i) proventobedefectiveinmaterialsorworkmanship.

(ii)returnedtoBlueSeaSystems(oritsagent)duringthewarrantyperiod inaccordancewiththiswarranty.

Replacementproductsmaybeneworrefurbishedinas-newcondition.SuchrepairorreplacementwillbethesoleremedybyBlueSeaSystemsunderthiswarranty.Anyrepairedorreplacementproductwillbewarrantedinaccordancewiththiswarranty,fortheunexpiredbalanceofthewarrantyperiodontheoriginalproduct.
