posts on the internet that has been published.

These blogs can be for private use or can be

open to the public to read. It has become a well known

method for providing information, personal expression

and creativity online.

Blogging is a growing trend for many individuals young

and old. For children in particularly, there are many

reasons why children would choose to blog. Often it is to

express themselves freely, build their character or

increase self-esteem.

However, regardless of these reasons, there are a number

of positive benefits that can result from blogging for

children. These benefits are important to understand as

they can encourage growth of self development and a

Increase communication skills online and offline.

ne of the greatest benefits of allowing kids to

blog online is the ability to increase their

communication skills naturally. According to

leading experts, blogging improves the communication

skills of children, teens and young adults. Unlike learning

these skills in school, children will develop these skills

overtime as they blog. As school can sometimes be

perceived as work or create stress among children to

perform well, blogging on the other hand can create a

comfortable space where children are encouraged to

grow through their creativity and interest to blog. As a

result, this will allow children to improve their skills

without the idea of failing, which can often be experienced

in a school environment.

Being able to blog at home as well also establishes an

atmosphere that encourages growth of their

communication skills. This provides a space for children

to blog in private, without anyone judging their work.

Learning how to communicate to a range of audiences can

then be applied to other parts of their life.

For instance in their education where children will

improve their confidence in articulating ideas and

thoughts in class and improve their writing skills. Socially,

children will also become more confident in public

speaking and become more outgoing and approachable to

socialize with other individuals. This is particularly useful

for children who are shy or have poor communication

skills.

Developing and improving writing skills.

part from improving communication skills,

blogging will also benefit children to develop

their writing skills. For many children, writing

with pen and paper can be an intimidating experience as

there is no way to erase the mistakes or alter what was

written. This makes it difficult for children to write freely.

For children who lack confidence in writing, this can be a

difficult challenge to overcome. Blogging can therefore

help as it allows children to write and have the ability to

check, remove or improve their writing as they go along.

Being able to practice their writing skills online by

effectively conveying their thoughts through the internet,

will encourage healthy and natural ways to improve their

skills. Imparting ideas and opinions is sometimes hard

when writing.

However with frequent practice, children can learn to

perfect their skills in writing, grammar and spelling. This

can provide a platform for children to build their skills

and adapt these skills in school and other environments.

Being competent in writing is a particular skill that is

transferable in all subjects studied at school.

As parents are most concerned about their child’s

development through their performance in school,

parents will see a huge improvement of their writing

skills overtime. In fact, many proud parents of kid

bloggers have testified that their children’s writing skills

have improved ever since they started blogging.

Gaining cultural awareness and greater insight to the world through interaction with people all over the world.

hildren are constantly growing and building

their perspective on the world through their

knowledge and personal experience. Blogging

provides a unique avenue for children to grow their

knowledge about the world. Interaction with readers is an

important part of blogging which cannot be ignored.

As children begin to blog, they will open many

opportunities to interact with a range of individuals all

over the world. This is through creating guest blog posts

on other blogs, replying to emails from fellow readers or

through discussion in blog comments. As a result, this

allows children to build a greater understanding of

cultures that exist outside of the child’s community or

social network. It is particularly important for children

who have not traveled or experienced other cultures

other than within their own community.

Children will also have the unique opportunity to interact

with other children who blog as well.

Being able to interact with other individuals from all parts

of the world, can lead to a better understanding of

cultures, differences in values, religious perspectives and

differences in opinions and thoughts.

Often children will research and read a range of other

blogs or articles online to help spark inspiration or

interest for their own blogs. This in turn will provide

greater cultural awareness and understanding of the

world in terms of trends, interests of other writers and

readers and what is happening in the news around the

world.

Use of technology

oday, blogging is seen as a common practice for

both adults and children. However, it is

important to realize just how useful blogging can

be. Through blogging, children will become more

experienced and skilled in the use of technology. This

means, that children will naturally pick up through

experience how to use technology that experts take years

to learn. This in a way is helpful for their self development

and confidence. In addition, children will build their web

development skills in understanding how platforms such

as Wordpress work.

Simple actions such as posting a blog post or inserting an

image can allow children to understand the technical side

of blogging without putting too much focus on it. As a

result, these skills will encourage children to learn in

other areas related to blogging such as programming and

use of other technology mediums.

It can also encourage children to continue to learn more

about how technology works and to pursue an interest in

this area or expertise.

smartphone or tablet, children will be able to learn how to

use all type of devices through their hands-on experience

of blogging.

their skills from blogging to other areas. Being able to

understand how to transfer skills from one area to

another can be an important asset to have for their future.

nderstanding how to blog can lead children to

be more competent in other forms of

interaction online. This includes the use of

social media. Social media networks such as Facebook,

Youtube and Twitter are all useful tools to help expand

their skills.

Part of the reason why children should be encouraged to

use social media is to increase interest and traffic to their

blog. Expanding their audience of readers is an important

aspect for any blogger, including children who blog.

Children will begin to learn how to link their blogs to

social media in a helpful way that will have positive

growth for their blog. In doing so, children will receive

more interaction from a larger audience of readers. Social

media therefore can be a platform to showcase one’s blog.

children who have not. Since blogging involves constant

communication with other people, children are more

socially inclined to interact with others in a friendly and

approachable manner.

emails and build conversations with a range of

individuals. This can boost their self-esteem to know that

their voice has been heard and that their opinions and

ideas matter. Leading psychologists also agree that

Learning how to problem solve by dealing with positive and negative comments

ne of the greatest concerns for parents in

allowing their children to blog is the fear of

criticism that may result in blogging. For any

blogger, reading and responding to comments by other

individuals is part of blogging.

However, not all comments will be positive or

encouraging. Learning how to deal with comments and

responses whether it is negative or positive is part of

being a good blogger. For children, this can be an

overwhelming experience at first. However, it can provide

a vital opportunity to learn how to deal with criticism.

Children may feel discouraged or hurt by some of the

comments made. It is important to give children time to

reflect on what they wrote in their blog and how they

would like to reply back to comments and remarks.

Dealing with criticism will also allow children to learn

how to problem solve, which is an important skill to have.

how to respond to negative feedback or comments in a

contrastive manner.

This is a learning process, which children will experience

in life regardless and can help children learn the best

practices in dealing with situations that they have never

experienced before when they arise.

own circumstance. Therefore, their actions, words and

comments can have a huge impact on readers.

Therefore, it is important for children to remember what

impact they can have online and the consequences that

them to a greater understanding of their impact on others

and how important it is to review their content to ensure

that it truly reflects their thoughts and views in an

appropriate manner.
