Blast Theory : Technical Internship Programme Page 1 A Machine To See With, 2010 The Programme Blast Theory is looking for talented and energetic developers to take part in a new technical internship programme for 2013. Blast Theory is renowned internationally as one of the most adventurous artists' groups using interactive media, creating groundbreaking new forms of performance and interactive art that mixes audiences across the internet, live performance and digital broadcasting. The programme provides an opportunity for young developers to spend a focused two weeks with Blast Theory, undertaking technical development on a research project and is intended as a step towards working in a key development role with Blast Theory on a range of interactive media projects in the future. You will work alongside the artists and in collaboration with other interns on the programme to prototype a new software project; learning about Blast Theory, the group’s approach, and exchanging knowledge and processes. The programme offers a total four internships which will last for two weeks in March 2013. Two internships focus on mobile app development and two internships on web video and frontend development (See below for details) Internships are based at Blast Theory’s studio in Brighton and are supported by a stipend of £300 per week for 2 weeks. The Programme

Blast Theory is looking for talented and energetic developers to take part in a new technical internship programme for 2013.

Blast Theory is renowned internationally as one of the most adventurous artists' groups using interactive media, creating groundbreaking new forms of performance and interactive art that mixes audiences across the internet, live performance and digital broadcasting.

Mobile App Internship

You

Blast Theory is looking for someone keen to develop innovative data-driven mobile applications. You should have experience of creating mobile apps for iOS and/or Android and an understanding of the processes for deploying apps for testing.

You’ll ideally have experience of cross-platform development either using native development or using a common development framework such as PhoneGap or Titanium Appcelerator.

You should be confident in producing clearly commented, object oriented code; and be happy working with small development teams using Git based version control.

You’ll ideally have experience of using geo-location, camera and notification APIs in your applications, understand the principles of creating secure connections for exchanging data and understand methods for working with application analytics for iterative development.

The internship

You’ll be asked work in collaboration to design and build a data-driven, location-aware app in response to descriptions and storyboards produced by Blast Theory. You’ll work to together to produce a written specification of the app and to implement and document the design.

You’ll work with the artists set-up tests of your app and be asked to present your work at key points during the internship.

You’ll have an opportunity to learn about Blast Theory’s current and future projects, its creative processes, organisational structure and its approach to creative development using technology.

Frontend Development and Web Video Internship

You

Blast Theory is looking for a talented frontend developer to work on interfaces for innovative web applications using video.

You should have experience in using JavaScript, CSS and HTML5 to produce dynamic web based interfaces and have a good understanding of processes and tools for cross-browser testing.

You’ll have used asynchronous JavaScript for developing web applications and JavaScript libraries such as jQuery for creating dynamic interfaces.

You’ll ideally have experience of working with HTML5 based video and in using CSS3 media queries to create responsive layouts.

You’ll be confident in writing clearly commented, object oriented code and be happy working with small development teams using Git based version control.

The internship

You’ll be asked to work in collaboration on a project to develop a web video interface in response to descriptions and storyboards produced by Blast Theory. You'll co-ordinate with the Blast Theory’s web developer integrate your work with an existing server platform.

You’ll work with the artists to run tests of the interface and be asked to produce documentation of your work.

You’ll have an opportunity to learn about Blast Theory’s current and future projects, its creative processes, organisational structure and its approach to creative development using technology.
