are able to wear their favourite team’s
colours tomorrow Wednesday 18th June.

Debating
What a spectacular effort! Blacktown
West debated against Minchinbury
Public School on Monday 16th June. All
team members performed well.
Blacktown West had prepared excellent
points and rebuttals. Congratulations to
the opposing team for their win. Well
done to all the students and their
coaches: Ms Abarquez and Mr Knight.
PSSA Representation
Congratulations to Angelis Hotere-
Papalii for competing at the PSSA NSW
State Carnival for U11 Rugby League.
The SW team he played in were
undefeated and won the tournament.
Nationally Consistent Collection
of Data of Students with a
Disability.
Our school is participating in the
collection of this data in 2014. Next year
every school across Australia has to
collect this data. This data is entered
and submitted to the state and to the
national government in such a way that
no individual student can be identified.
The information will assist the DEC and
the Federal government fund students
who struggle to access the curriculum.
This will affect our funding in the future.
If your child has adjustments made to
the class program, you will be asked at
the interview if you can assist by signing
the form to include your child on the
data base.
If you have any questions, please ring
to have a chat. It is important that we
include all the students who have the
curriculum adjusted so they can access
all the key learning areas.
4/5R Excursion to the City
Congratulations to all students in 4/5R
who explored the construction of bridges
in the city. They travelled across the
bridge by train, then after eating their
recess under the enormous structure,
they walked across it which provided a
perfect view of the how the bridge was
built. On reaching the other side of the
Harbour Bridge, 4/5R ventured up the
many steps of the pylon to catch an
amazing view of the Opera House, the
harbour and Anzac bridge. Members of
the public complimented 4/5R on their
manners. Well Done 4/5R!
Parking
Please make sure that you do not park
in the “NO PARKING ZONE” on Blue
Hills Crescent. Parents are blocking the
street and making it impossible for the
school bus to turn the corner. It is illegal
to park here and parents will be fined
when the police patrol the area.
Yours sincerely
Meg Peel Principal
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Remember to collect your 10 awards – they can be
stamped for a special award. Don’t forget to keep all
awards with the school tree in a safe place.

If any parents are able to assist with reading, please
leave a message at the front counter for Mrs Singh. The
reading support that Mrs Singh organises and
implements is a fantastic support for the students
involved. Thank you to all the parents who already give
up their time to implement the program. If you have half
an hour, three times a week you can really assist one
student. Mrs Singh trains the parents and organises the
work. We have recently lost one parent and we are
looking for more parents to assist.
Sausage SIzzle
If you want to order a sausage sizzle for next Tuesday
24th, please hand in your order and your money to your
class teacher. $3:00 buys a sausage sizzle and a drink!

the families that have contributed to the Mini Fete.
Remember to bring your money on Tuesday 24th June.

nual walkathon to help raise money for the school. All
students will participate on Monday afternoon. All parents
are welcome to come along. Please help the fund raising
by supporting your child.
If your child is unable to attend school, please call the
office, send a written note or doctors certificate into the
class teacher. All absences must be accounted for.
Reporting on the English K–10 Syllabus
All primary schools in NSW are currently implementing the English K–10 Syllabus which is based upon the Australian Curriculum: English. BWPS staff has done extensive training on implementing this syllabus and written new units of work incorporating the rationale, aim, objectives, outcomes and content of the English K–10 Syllabus, taking into account the learning needs of all students. “The aim of English in Years K–10 is to enable students to understand and use language effectively, appreciate, reflect on and enjoy the English language and to make meaning in ways that are imaginative, creative, interpretive, critical and powerful.” Extract from: English K–10 Syllabus The objectives and outcomes of the English K–10 Syllabus, work together so that students are stimulated and challenged in all learning tasks to respond to and compose texts; to create texts according to the purpose and audience of a text; to improve their use of grammar, vocabulary, punctuation, spelling, handwriting and technologies; to become reflective learners; and deepen their appreciation of the power, value and art of the English language, and their love of literature.
