I applaud your courage in accepting thischallenge. Prologue1.1 PRECURSOR TO CONFLICT
Kentares has been in pol it ical turmoi l s ince Ian Dresari took
possession of the Ducal throne. Detai ls of h is succession are
sketchy, but many feel that his s ister Johanna was the heir
apparent. Since her unt imely death, c iv i l unrest has grown into
open rebel l ion.
Karl Sonntag, a staunch loyal ist to the Dresari fami ly, turned his
back on the f ledgl ing sovereign and was recently arrested for
sedit ion when he publ ic ly condemned the new regime. His fate—
as wel l as those of other pol it ical pr isoners—is uncertain, but
we do know that his leadership could prove invaluable i f a
resistance is to be mounted against Ian Dresari .

1.2 BANISHMENT
After years of fa ithful service as a Davion lance commander,
you found yourself facing a discipl inary review board fol lowing a
heated dispute with a superior off icer. Using his inf luence with
the corporat ive magistrate, he seized an opportunity to trump up
charges of insubordinat ion against you and had you drummed out.
Disgraced, jobless, and without a C-bi l l to your name, you turned
to the only source of income at hand: Colonel Michael Lawhorn
and his Black Knight Legion.
The Legion is a t ight-knit group of rogue mercenaries with a
reputat ion for the ruthless pursuit of prof it—a reputat ion that’s
not altogether undeserved. Your experience and can-do att itude
has helped you r ise quickly through the ranks, and become the
colonel ’s conf idant and second in command.

Black Knight Legion MechLabWith the exception of the changes descr ibed in this sect ion,
the features of the Black Knight Legion’s MechLab are ident ical
to the MechWarrior: Vengeance MechLab.
4.1 CHASSIS
4.1.1 Status Indicator
A new feature that provides indicat ion of chassis status has been
added to the MechLab. In the chassis l ist ing, the names of ’Mechs
that are ready for use are displayed in white, whi le ’Mechs that
are damaged appear as yel low, and cr ippled ’Mechs are red.
This feature is a lso used in the chassis l ist ings of the lancemate
select ion segment of the campaign mission select ion screen.

4.1.2 Repair
After each successful miss ion, batt le-worn ’Mechs in your
inventory undergo repair by Legion technic ians. This includes any
chassis that you salvaged from the batt lef ie ld. Damaged chassis
are restored to ready-for-use status, and cr ippled chassis are
upgraded to damaged status.
4.2 PERSISTENT INVENTORY
As i f our resources weren’t a lready stretched to their l imit ,
chassis, weapons, and support vehic les that are damaged beyond
repair are removed from your inventory and lost for good.
Therefore, take advantage of repair faci l i t ies whenever and
wherever you can. It ’s about the only th ing a mercenary wi l l
ever get for free.
4.3 BLACK MARKET
An advantage of being a Legionnaire is we are unbound by the
trade laws of the Successor States. Because your missions
can occur in remote areas beyond Legion supply l ines, i t wi l l
be necessary for you to use alternative sources for chassis
and weapons. You’ve probably heard th is referred to as the
Black Market.

2 . Drag the i tems that you want from the Contraband l ist and dropthem into the Buy window.
The i tems in the Contraband l ist are weapons and chass isscrounged by impenitent prof i teers f rom ’Mechs damaged ordestroyed in batt le .
3 . Drag the i tems that you are wi l l ing to exchange from the Inventorywindow and drop them into the Sel l w indow.
The i tems in the Inventory window are the weapons and chassisyou current ly have in stock.
4 . Cl ick TradeTradeTradeTradeTrade to f ina l ize the transact ion, or c l ick C loseCloseCloseCloseClose to cancelthe deal and return to the MechLab.
The tota l va lue of the i tems in the Sel l w indow must equal orexceed the tota l va lue of the i tems in the Buy window. The tota lsfor each are d isplayed above their respect ive windows. When thetrade is equitable, the Trade button is act ivated.

Knight Legion to intercede in the fo l lowing campaigns. I t ’s t ime
to earn your pay.
5.1.1 Watch Dogs
Your f i rst operat ion is set on a stark, l i fe less planetoid r ich
in mineral wealth and home to a smal l Steiner mining operat ion
where pirate raids are taking a tol l .
5.1.2 MODL Hunt
Dropped into the hot desert scrublands of Kentares IV, the
Legion provides tact ical support to the Steiner mi l i t ia in i ts bid
to oust Ian Dresari .

5.1.3 Clean Sweep
You and your lance patrol the alpine forests of the Cascade
Mountains, guarding the Legion’s f lank as the colonel readies
a f inal attack. Your ski l ls as a leader are about to be tested.
5.1.4 Reprisal
As your unit advances into urban Kentares IV, you witness the
horrors of c iv i l war. The city l ies in ruin, the streets bloodied
and pocked by death and destruct ion—testaments to the
incompetent rule of Ian Dresari .
5.1.5 Payday
In the distance you detect the rugged s i lhouette of a terrain
shaped by erupting volcanoes. This is a f i tt ing mi l ieu for the
f inal showdown, as the need for retr ibut ion that bui lds within
you is about to explode.
5.2 INSTANT ACTION
Instant Action play is the same for MechWarr ior 4: Black Knight
as with MechWarrior: Vengeance.

As a rogue, you’ l l have plenty of opportunit ies to engage others
in combat, be it to make a name for yourself or for the sheer
excitement of the hunt.

There are several ways to l ink up with other mercenaries looking
to do batt le. Go to the Microsoft® Gaming Zone at www.zone.com
and jo in an exist ing MechWarr ior Black Knight game or host one
of your own.
