Slavery• Slavery begin in 1760 B.C• Portugal shifted their slaves import

to tropical colonies in America. • Slaves comes from Africa

• The Europeans traditionally bough slaves.

• Any forms of helping the slaves for giving them a higher status will be punished

• In the book, the blacks were inferior to the whites.

The civil war

• The eleven states were Texas Arkansas Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia.

• It was president Lincoln who led the North against the south.

• The war was fought because of the rights of the south that the southerners believe in.

• The war was between april 1861 to april 1865

Still the civil war

• The Union won and all the slaves were freed

• In the book, it show that everyone as their own rights, just like the southerners in the civil war.

Jim Crow laws• Jim Crow is an expression for

“African American”.• Jim Crow laws for the segregation

between African Americans and the whites.

• The blacks didn’t like Jim Crow laws

The civil rights movement

• It started on December 1, 1951.• It was about the blacks protesting that

they were being treated unfairly.• Significant events include the freedom

rides which integrate seating patterns and desegregate bus terminals, and sit-ins which started by four students seating at a segregated lunch corner.

Still the civil rights movement• President Truman and Eisenhower• The outcomes were the south were

still part of USA and slavery was abolished.

• In the book, Tom Robinson was wrongly accused of raping Mayella.

Montgomery bus boycott and Scottsboro trials. • Montgomery bus boycott was a

protest campaign to oppose the city’s policy of social segregation on its public transport systems.

• The Scottsboro trials refer to the nine young boys who are convicted of crimes to white people.

• They were similar in a sense that they both were trying to prove that they were against the racial segregation system.

respectful towards the elders and the blacks while Bob Ewell was violent and discriminate he blacks.

• She got a law degree at University of Alabama

• Was awarded the Pulitzer award.

• To kill a mocking bird was significant to her because it was the only novel she ever published and was inspired by the childhood friend and neighbor.
