INSTALLATION


BLACKHEARTSELECTIONThe Blackheart upgrade is in the orm o a replacement or your marker’s stock circuitboard. It is available in three versions or use with dierent Smart Parts markers. TheIon version is designed or use with Ion, SP-8 and Epiphany markers. The Shockerversion is compatible with the Shocker NXT, Shocker SFT and Nerve. As its nameimplies, the Impulse Blackheart board works with the Impulse.

INSTALLINGTHEBLACKHEARTTo install the Blackheart, ollow the disassembly instructions in your marker’s manual,remove the circuit board, and replace it with the Blackheart. It is recommended thatyou download the most recent manual or your marker at www.SmartParts.com.

OPTIMIZINGDWELL

The deault Dwell settings o the Blackheart board are designed to provide reliableoperation with your marker. Optimizing the dwell setting will maximize the gas e-ciency o your marker. Using the adjustment instructions in this manual, ollow thedwell optimization procedure in your marker’s manual to achieve the ideal dwell set-ting or your particular marker conguration.

EPIPHANYNOTES

Ion Blackheart boards manuactured ater the Fall o 2006 are equipped with hosesand a solenoid valve that are rated to operate in the pressure ranges utilized by theEpiphany as well as the Ion. These newer boards are easily identied by the protectivewrapping on their solenoid coil. Epiphany certied Blackheart boards have a blackIon logo on a red background. Older Blackheart boards have a black wrap with a redlogo, and should not be used in an Epiphany or Epiphany converted Ion or SP-8.

SHOCKER OPERATION


Pressing and holding bothbuttons or 1 second acti-vates the Shortcut Key. Thiswill automatically calculateand set the correct ROFDelaysetting necessary to capyour marker’s rate o re just

below 15 balls per second.The board will chirp, and thered and yellow LEDs will stayon to identiy that the 15 bpscap has been activated.

OPERATION

Press the Power Button. The board will chirp and then power on, entering Vision ringmode. Press and hold the button or two seconds to power o the marker.

I your Vision eyes become blocked by paint or debris, you may wish to switch tonon-vision ring mode until you have time to clean and inspect them. The Power But-ton can be used to switch back and orth rom non-Vision ring mode to Vision modeby pressing the button quickly and observing the chirp and change in light patternrom a steady glow to an interrupted blinking sequence.

ADJUSTMENT To access the Mode Buttons inside the grip rame, remove the screws rom therubber grip on the let side o the gun. By pressing the Mode Down Button once,the board will enter into an Adjustment Mode. A solid yellow light indicates you arein Dwell Adjustment Mode. As you continue pressing the Mode Down Button, youwill cycle through the modes which are each dened by a specic color and fashsequence (see table).

*Vision Modes 3 and 4 are only available on Blackheart Boards manuactured ater August 2006.

While in any o these modes, wait 4 seconds and the speaker will chirp to identiy thecurrent setting value or that mode. For example, i it was in the Dwell Setting Modeand the Dwell was set to 30, ater 4 seconds the speaker would chirp 30 times.

I you decide to leave the adjustment table without making any changes, simply pull

and release the trigger one time, and the board will go back into its base (non-Vision)ring mode. CAUTION:Ithereisairchargedinthegun,itwillnotbeabletofrewhileinanAdjustmentMode.However,assoonasyoureleasethetrigger,youwillbeabletofrethegun.

To change settings while the board is in any o the modes listed in the adjustmenttable, complete the ollowing steps:

1.Pullandholdthetriggeror3seconds; the speaker will chirp 5 times to indicatethat you can make adjustments.

2.Whilethetriggerisstillbeingheld,makeanadjustmentbypressingtheModeDownButtontoadjustdown,ortheModeUpButtontoadjustup.The speaker

will make a high pitched chirp or each adjustment up, and a low pitched chirp oreach adjustment down.

3.Onceyouhavereachedyourdesiredsetting,releasingthetriggerwillputtheboardbackintonon-Visionfringmodeandsaveyournewsetting. The board

will chirp rapidly when it can’t go any higher or lower in the adjustment range.

IMPULSE ADJUSTMENT



MODE DESCRIPT ION


DWELL

This adjusts how long solenoid valve is activated or each shot, and how long the boltstays orward on each ring cycle. Too low o a Dwell will not allow the marker to re,or cause it to re with inconsistent velocity. I the Dwell is set too high you will losegas eciency. Reer to your marker’s manual or instructions to optimize your Dwellvalue.

ROFDELAYThis adjusts the minimum time the marker must wait between shots. Increasing theROFDelay will raise the pause, slowing down how ast the marker can re. Loweringthe ROFDelay will decrease the pause, allowing the marker to shoot aster.

FIRINGMODE

There are 4 dierent modes that you can cycle through while in the Firing Mode

adjustment stage. Here are the dierent modes and their descriptions:1. [Semi-Auto] This mode is strictly semi-auto only. The kick-in rate and sustain rateare not applicable in this mode. Use this mode or playing in the NPPL Super 7 or anyother eld or event which doesn’t allow any ramping sotware. This mode is adjust-able with DEBOUNCE and ROF.

2. [3-Shot Burst] This ring mode is mostly or un, and generally not legal at any tour-naments or most paintball elds. For each pull o the trigger the gun will re 3 shots.

This mode is adjustable with ROF.3. [NXL Full-Auto] The name is just what it suggests, it res one shot per trigger pullinitially until a set number o trigger pulls have been completed, at which point holdingdown the trigger will result in repeated ring. I you happen to release the trigger, youhave just under one second to pull it again and jump right back into Full Auto withoutthe normally required kick-in shots. This mode is ully adjustable with KICK-IN RATE,NUMBER OF SHOTS TO ENTER FIRING MODE and ROF.




MODE DESCRIPT ION


4. [Rebound] This ring mode makes it much easier or any user to re as ast aspossible. It res one shot per trigger pull at low rates o re, but as the user pulls thetrigger more requently, Rebound responds by ring more rapidly. Rebound modecan be ully adjusted with KICK-IN RATE, SUSTAIN RATE, NUMBER OF SHOTS TOENTER FIRING MODE and ROF.

DEBOUNCEThis setting will aect all ring modes, although it is normally only eective in Semi- Auto Mode. The lower you set the Debounce, the more sensitive it makes the trigger.I you set the Debounce too low and pull the trigger slowly, the kick o the markermight make it shoot more than once, which is not allowed in some tournaments andpaintball elds. I you set the Debounce to 0, a Full Auto condition will result, which isprohibited at many elds and tournaments.

BSA(BoltStickAdjustment)This setting aects all ring modes and is used to help compensate or any rst shotdrop-o (FSDO.) FSDO is when a gun’s rst shot is very low in velocity compared tothe subsequent shots - usually due to the bolt sticking in place. Ater the gun sits or10 seconds, the board will increase the Dwell setting to alleviate any rst shot drop.The increase is based on the value o your BSA setting. I you do not experience anydrop-o, then you should be at the lowest setting within the BSA to avoid the risk o

hot gun penalties.KICK-INRATE

This setting aects REBOUND and NXL FULL AUTO; it reers to the shots per secondyou must reach by pulling the trigger beore the board will “kick-in” to NXL Full Auto orRebound. The higher the setting, the harder it will be to kick into either o the modes.The lower the setting, the easier it will be to kick in.




MODE DESCRIPT ION


SUSTAINRATE

This setting aects REBOUND; it reers to the shots per second you must sustain bypulling the trigger to keep the board “kicked in” to Rebound. The higher the setting,the aster you will have to pull the trigger to sustain the Rebound.

NUMBEROFSHOTSTOENTERFIREMODE

This setting aects REBOUND and NXL FULL AUTO; it adjusts how many shots areneeded to be pulled in order or it to kick into Full Auto or Rebound Modes. You canadjust it rom 1–10 pulls. This means that i it is set to 10, you must pull the trigger 10times beore it will kick into the chosen mode.

VISIONTYPE(ShockerVersionOnly)

This setting tells the Blackheart what type o Vision eye it will use. Type 1 - ShockerSFT Refective Vision. Type 2 - Nerve. Type 3 - Shocker NXT Breakbeam Vision.Type 4 - Shocker NXT Toggle Vision. Types 3 and 4 are only supported on Blackheartboards manuactured ater August 2006. See the Shocker NXT manual or moreinormation on Vision options.

SHORTCUTKEY

This aects all ring modes and is a handy eature. The Shortcut key will read theDwell value and automatically calculate and set the ROF value to cap your marker at

a maximum o 14.7 balls per second, or use where tournaments allow a maximum o15 balls per second. The Shortcut Key allows or a 0.3 bps margin o error. I you wishto bypass this margin o error and get as close as possible to a 15 ball per second capas possible, adjust the ROFDely value manually.
