    BLUE KNIGHTS TEXAS CHAPTER #1

    AUGUST 2015

    MESSAGE FROM YOUR

    TX-I PRESIDENT

    Hello to All:

With the gap in our newsletter publication it has been a while since I  have put out any information. I hope we have that fixed. We just

got back from Reno where myself, Debby, Charlie and AdeleCulpepper, and Gene and Debbie Fuqua attended the Blue KnightsInternational Convention. We had a great time. We did some beautiful rides in the area including riding completely around LakeTahoe. The weather was great.

If you were at last month's meeting, you will remember we discussed several amendments to theInternational Constitution. These amendments would severely restrict our ability to recruit andretain members. It was decided, as a chapter, that I would vote no to all discussed amendments.Due to the International Board failing to notify all chapter presidents in a timely manner, a vote

could not be taken and the matter was tabled till next year.

While we were gone Randall Chester put together a dinner ride. The pictures sent looked like it

was well attended and I hope all had a good time. It was good to see members coming out andgetting together.

We had three new members join at the last meeting. Please come out and meet the new membersand renew old acquaintances. I look forward to seeing everyone at the August meeting. We will be meeting at the Mexican Inn in Bedford on August 13th at 6:00 if you want to eat or 7:00 if

you just want to attend the meeting.

Please come out to support Texas 1.Keep safe and ride with pride,

     Ron Williamson

    President BK/TX-I

    Blue Knights Texas #1

    Meeting Minutes

    Date : July 9, 2015

The July 2015 general membership meeting was movedto the Mama’s Pizza in North Richland Hills as a trial

run. President Ron Williamson called the meeting toorder at exactly 7:00pm with a large group of thirtymembers and guests in attendance. The invocation wasled by Bernie Combs, followed by the pledge of

    allegiance led by Mike Nafziger.

Ron’s first order of business was to introduce new

members Aaron Thomas, and Ken & Martha Crawford.Ron noted that Tommy Hamilton has applied formembership, but was not able to make the meeting. Healso recognized April Cody, guest of Randy & Shirley

Simpson.Ron expressed the sympathy of all of the members toCharlie Culpepper, whose brother passed away during

    the previous week.

The next order of business was the Secretary’sreport. Dan McDonald reported that the minutes of both the May and June meetings had been published inthe latest newsletter and asked for any correctionsRandall Chester moved to accept the minutes as published. Randy Simpson seconded the motion and it

    was approved unanimously.

Treasurer Bill Bozarth was not present, but Ron gavethe Treasurer’s report to the membership. Ron reported

that the two new Certificates of Deposit that wereapproved by the membership in July had been added tothe club’s treasury and all financials were in good

order. Dan Mac moved that the report be accepted. Themotion was seconded by Randy Simpson and was

    approved by the membership.

Road Captain Randall Chester reported that there were

no new rides scheduled at this time, but will be lookingto add some to the calendar in the near future. RandySimpson mentioned a new place in Weatherford calledthe Vintage Grill and Museum. Several members werefamiliar with it and said it was very pricey and hadlimited parking, so this one was nixed as a possibledestination. A couple of other destinations werediscussed, including the New York Hill Restaurant inThurber and Tater Junction outside of Rhome. These

    will be taken under advisement.

Quartermaster Bill Richardson reported that hehad nothing new this month. Randy Simpsonadded that several new RGC (Rio GrandeConference) patches had been purchased last

month in Lufkin to add to the store.

Webmaster David Dorr reported that photos from thSpringtown Bike Rally and the newsletter had beadded to the web site. He is waiting on photos fro

the RGC in Lufkin. There are currently no rides on thcalendar.

Ron reported that during the RGC chapter president

meeting it was passed down that chapters can nlonger just have “Texas” as an insignia on their roc

ers. They must designate a chapter, such as “Texas to be acceptable. Research will be done to make suour chapter is grandfathered on this rule in order

    keep our current patches.

Ron also reported that Geno is already on his way

the International convention and that He, Deb, Charland Adele are leaving the following morning. He sathat a few members had received an e-mail froColorado members about some controversi proposals to the International Bylaws. One proposwould be that members under retired officer statmust have attained twenty plus years of service to bconsidered regular members. Those with lesser servitime would have to be designated as associamembers. The second proposal is that members withmilitary designation retiring after twenty years wou

have to have served a minimum of fifteen years military police. The third proposal is that any membdesignated as a Chapter Chaplain must have at leafive years in leadership of a congregation or fellowship in a recognized religion. Some discussion wheld on the matter and Ron called for a vote of hohe, Gene and Charlie should vote on this matter chapter delegates. The vote was unanimous to reje

    all three proposals.

Shirley Simpson reported that sales of Chapt

merchandise went well at RGC, as well as $190 raffle tickets. (Shirley’s report that was posted in t

July newsletter shows $289 in sales plus the raffle)

Under old business, Ron reported that the Trash ODay went very well. With assistance from the TarraCounty Work Release Program, it only took about ahour and a half to clean up the roadway. About six eight members participated and ten bags of trash wecollected. Ron thanked John Salerno for providin

vests and gloves for workers. (Continued on page 4)

     (Continued from page 3)

David Dorr mentioned that we should go ahead and seta date for the Spring Trash Off. Ron presented an ideathat one person should head up the Trash Off Daycommittee and just set a date. Since Geno takes care ofgetting the work release prisoners from county, hisname was suggested as a possible committee chair. Ron

said he would talk to him about it this week.

Ron tried to hold the drawing for the left over door prizes but was unable to find the ticket stubs. Sinceonly a couple of people remembered to bring theirtickets, this will be tabled once again. Ron advised thata reminder e-mail will be sent next month and the

    drawing WILL take place.

Under new business, a question was asked if we shouldstay at Mama’s Pizza next month or look for anotherlocation. Due to the limited menu and the fact theirmeeting room was not enclosed, it was decided to move

somewhere else. A couple of suggestions were madeand Mike Nafziger was going to check on a Mexican

    restaurant in Bedford.

The Good of the Order opened with Ron asking DavidDorr to surrender the Bozo necklace. His reign endedafter only one month, actually after only two days sinceVP Bo snatched the “award” away from him just two

days after he received it. Bo’s term began on the way to

RGC. We all stopped at a red light in Athens and Bo pulled an Arte Johnson tricycle stunt (you have to be

our age to understand that reference to Laugh In)!

Randy Simpson had a bag of freebies that Shirley hadaccumulated in Lufkin. They were passed out as far asthey went with members as eager to get the goodies like

    they were bags of candy.

Randy S also decided it was time for a challenge. Thetap-tap of the coin brought a unanimous response fromthe members. Since everyone had their coins, Randy

had to cough up $3.75 to the club kitty.

It was time for the Fun and Games for the evening. The

first door prize was a set of cleaning cloths which wentto Kip Sheek. Bernie Combs was the next winner andwas the recipient of a bottle of Monkey Butt powder. He didn’t get to keep it long as Rick Huitt’s number

came up next and the MB changed hands. Berniereceived a nice looking First Aid Kit as a replacement prize. Dean Davis’ number was drawn next and he

received a set of polishing cloths. The last prize of the

evening went to Clara Brannen, a set of mini

     jumper cables.

The 50/50 drawing was held and Rick Huitt was

the lucky winner of the night.

Ron asked if there were any other business to discuand David Dorr suggested another dinner ride. ThCelebrations Restaurant in Dallas was mentioned as possible destination in August. The Blue Hangar Ca

was also discussed for a possible breakfast ride. Davwill set up something and get it on the calendar.

With no further business, Randy Simpson moved

adjourn. Bernie led the members in a benediction an

the meeting was adjourned at 7:49pm.
