Molecular Imaging’s BioScan system combines the power of a high-resolution atomic force microscope (AFM) with the direct optical viewing capability of an inverted optical microscope. The BioScan, from the leading developer of AFM systems for imaging in fl uids, offers unparalleled performance and ease of use. It extends the power of the atomic force microscope to studies of single molecules, polymers, cell membranes, whole cells, and much more. And, atomic force and optical or fl uorescence microscopy data can be obtained simultaneously.

BioScan’s patented mounting design incorporates a rigid structure that guarantees the low noise fl oor specifi cation required for obtain-ing the highest resolution images. With BioScan, sub-nanometer resolution is possible. And, the advanced design allows the AFM to sit on top of an inverted microscope and under the illumination pillar that results in better optical contrast for the images.

The Quick-slide™ sample loading mechanism and a fl exible sample handling stage makes sample preparation easy. The microscope is positioned on the Quick-slide assembly that lets the user change samples and/or solutions without effecting the alignment of the AFM or the optical microscope.

BioScan is a modular, multiple-user platform. The open architecture design permits easy access, manipulation, set-up and modification of samples while experiments are being performed. Easy access to the sample stage and familiar sample preparation techniques make BioScan ideal for life science and other applications that require intensive sample preparation.

Molecular Imaging’s unique modular design also makes it easy to change imaging techniques (for example, MAC to EC or AFM to STM) or to use the AFM microscope or the optical microscope as stand-alone systems. Other operating modes available include CSAFM.

Optimized for use with Molecular Imaging’s PicoPlus® or PicoLE™ AFM’s, BioScan allows researchers to take advantage of the many powerful features that are available only with Molecular Imaging’s Pico Family™ of products. MAC Mode®, the most gentle imaging mode available for any AFM platform, provides unbeatable performance in fl uids. Flow-through liquid cells and precise temperature control options allow users to image soft biological samples under controlled physiological conditions. Molecular Imaging’s proprietary sample plate stability further supports high-resolution AFM. And, the PicoTREC™ option delivers real-time simultaneous topography and recognition imaging.
