What is global warming?
The Earth as an ecosystem is changing. More carbondioxide is now in the atmosphere than has been in thepast 650,000 years. This carbon stays in theatmosphere, acts like a warm blanket, and holds in the
heat hence the name global warming.
Nowadays, we've overloaded the atmosphere with heat-trapping gasses from our cars and factories and powerplants. If we don't start fixing the problem now, were in
for devastating changes to our environment. We willexperience extreme temperatures, rises in sea levels, and storms of unimaginable destructive fury.

WHAT CAUSES GLOBALWARMING?
Scientists have determined that a number of human activities arecontributing to global warming by adding excessive amounts ofgreenhouse gases to the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases such ascarbon dioxide accumulate in the atmosphere and trap heat thatnormally would exit into outer space.

How Do Humans Contribute to Greenhouse GasEmissions and Global Warming?
Human activity has been a major contributor to climate changesince the start of the Industrial in the mid-1700s.

EFFECTS OF GLOBALWARMING
Scientists predict an increase in sea levels worldwide due to themelting of two massive ice sheets in Antarctica and Greenland,
especially on the East coast of the U.S. However, many nationsaround the world will experience the effects of rising sea levels,
which could displace millions of people. One nation, the Maldives, isalready looking for a new home, thanks to rising sea levels.

EFFECTS OF GLOBALWARMING
The severity of storms such as hurricanes and cyclones isincreasing. Scientists have come up with the firmest evidence so far
that global warming will significantly increase the intensity of themost extreme storms worldwide. The maximum wind speeds of thestrongest tropical cyclones have increased significantly since 1981.
And the upward trend, thought to be driven by rising oceantemperatures, is unlikely to stop at any time soon.

EFFECTS OF GLOBALWARMING
Climate change is expected to have the most severe impact onwater supplies. Shortages in future are likely to threaten food
production, reduce sanitation, hinder economic development anddamage ecosystems. It causes more violent swings between floodsand droughts. - Guardian: Global warming causes 300,000 deaths a
year.

EFFECTS OF GLOBALWARMING
According to research published in Nature, by 2050, risingtemperatures could lead to the extinction of more than a million
species.
Climate change now represents at least as great a threat to the
number of species surviving on Earth as habitat-destruction andmodification.Chris Thomas, conservation biologist at the University
of Leeds

EFFECTS OF GLOBALWARMING
A report on coral reefs from WWF says that in a worst casescenario, coral populations will collapse by 2100 due to increased
temperatures and ocean acidification. The bleaching of corals from
small but prolonged rises in sea temperature is a severe danger forocean ecosystems, and many other species in the oceans rely on
coral reefs for their survival.

STOP GLOBAL WARMING
Use Compact Fluorescent BulbsReplace 3 frequently used light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. Save 300lbs. of carbon dioxide and $60 per year.
Inflate Your TiresKeep the tires on your car adequately inflated. Check them monthly. Save250 lbs. of carbon dioxide and $840 per year.
Change Your Air FilterCheck your car's air filter monthly. Save 800 lbs. of carbon dioxide and $130per year.
Fill the Dishwasher
Run your dishwasher only with a full load. Save 100 lbs. of carbon dioxide and$40 per year.
Use Recycled PaperMake sure your printer paper is 100% post consumer recycled paper. Save 5lbs. of carbon dioxide per ream of paper.

STOP GLOBAL WARMING
Change the AC FilterClean or replace dirty air conditioner filters as recommended. Save 350 lbs. ofcarbon dioxide and $150 per year.
Buy Products LocallyBuy locally and reduce the amount of energy required to drive your productsto your store.
Buy Energy CertificatesHelp spur the renewable energy market and cut global warming pollution bybuying wind certificates and green tags.
Buy Minimally Packaged Goods
Less packaging could reduce your garbage by about 10%. Save 1,200 poundsof carbon dioxide and $1,000 per year.
Buy a Fuel Efficient CarGetting a few extra miles per gallon makes a big difference. Save thousands oflbs. of CO2 and a lot of money per year.

STOP GLOBAL WARMING
Carpool When You CanOwn a big vehicle? Carpooling with friends and co-workers saves fuel. Save790 lbs. of carbon dioxide and hundreds of dollars per year.
Don't Idle in Your CarIdling wastes money and gas, and generates pollution and global warmingcausing emissions. Except when in traffic, turn your engine off if you must wait
for more than 30 seconds.
Reduce GarbageBuy products with less packaging and recycle paper, plastic and glass. Save1,000 lbs. of carbon dioxide per year.
Plant a Tree
Trees suck up carbon dioxide and make clean air for us to breathe. Save2,000 lbs. of carbon dioxide per year.
Unplug Un-Used ElectronicsEven when electronic devices are turned off, they use energy. Save over 1,000lbs of carbon dioxide and $256 per year.
