Biobehavioral Health (BBH) is an innovative interdis-ciplinary program that enables students to explore all
factors—biological, behavioral, social/cultural, and envi-ronmental—that influence the health of individuals and groups through the life span. BBH helps provide a strong foundation for students who plan to attend medical school or pursue graduate study in fields such as epidemiology, psychology, genetics, public health, human development, health promotion, or human services. The program is also designed for those who want to plan, implement, and evaluate health-related programs, or for those interested in conducting biomedical research. By investigating the issues that influence health, students prepare for careers promoting healthy lifestyles and preventing diseases in individuals and populations.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE
Because Biobehavioral Health covers such a broad field, students have many opportuni-ties to specialize their programs for entry-level careers in health promotion and disease prevention or to pursue postbaccalaureate graduate training in a variety of health-relat-ed professional programs.
The Department of Biobehavioral Health has a number of specialized labs dedicated to research on health issues. BBH has three primary areas of emphasis: biological and genetic processes, health promotion and prevention science, and stress as a biobehav-ioral cross-cutting theme. Global health cuts across all areas. Whether you’re interested in issues of aging, genetics, obesity, hormonal development, temperament, sexual health, stress, or drug and alcohol effects on health, there are many opportunities to become involved in our cutting-edge research.
This major helps prepare graduates for entry-level positions in a range of health- related settings including roles as health promotion and disease prevention specialists, biomedi-cal product representatives, research assis-tants, laboratory managers, and technical support positions in biomedical and health-re-lated fields. The major also provides excellent preparation for advanced study in profes-sional areas and the biological and social sciences, such as medicine, the allied health professions (e.g., physician assistant, physi-cal therapy, etc.), health psychology, public health, environmental health and safety, and human services. The major provides a superb practical, liberal, and scientific education; it is a flexible major that enables students to explore their interests.
