THE SECOND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON

BIO-RESOURCE AND STRESS MANAGEMENT

The 2nd International Conference on Bio-resource and Stress Management (ICBSM) focuses on the vulnerability of nature. Specifically it lays emphasis on the emerging issues related to agriculture, abiotic and biotic stress factors, ethnic knowledge, climate change and global warming, natural resources and their sustainable management. Our Mother Earth is a treasure-trove of resources which is the source of our life and livelihood. Biodiversity is bountiful, yet it is finite—non-renewable in nature. Continuous over-exploitation by human intervention since time immemorial has put the nature under pressure leading to unprecedented loss of biology and biodiversity. On the other hand, industrialization and modern civilization contributing to global climate change thereby global warming has made our planet earth not a safe place to live in. Side-by-side several abiotic stress factors such as drought, salinity, flood and excessive cold or heat as well as biotic factors like insect-pest and several diseases have made natural resources vulnerable day-by-day. Though there are a plethora of plans, policies, concepts, methods, strategies, programmes and propagandas to mitigate the adverse effect of human exploitation, climate change, biotic and abiotic stresses on the nature to make it a better place to live in, all this miss a vital point, i.e. sustainability perspectives. Consequently, sustainable management of natural resources has come in vogue in the recent past. Thus, we have experimented a lot and achieved many yet the situation is going out of control day-by-day. Therefore, we must strive hard until the goal is reached keeping in mind the plight of the people whose live and livelihood is dependant on bio-resources and their sustainable management. With this background the 2nd ICBSM focuses on the following thematic areas:

THEMATIC AREAS

1.NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT •Sustainable land, water and crop management, conservation agriculture and homestead farming •Organic agriculture •Conservation of wet lands and mangroves •Animal husbandry, fishery and wildlife management •Bio-resource conservation–issues and policies •Innovative technology for bio-resource management •Forest ecosystem, eco-management and eco-tourism • RS and GIS applications in bio-diversity and landscape management

2.CLIMATE CHANGE AND SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE •Climate change–impact, adaptation and mitigation •Emerging trends in global carbon trading and rural livelihoods •Climate smart agriculture •Public-private partnership for sustainable agricultural development •Challenges and prospects for entrepreneurship development in sustainable agriculture •Low cost technology for sustainable crop productivity enhancement
