Recognizing the establishment of the Rotary Club of Capitol Hill and the important contributions of Rotary Clubs to society.
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
NOVEMBER 18, 2003Mr. WILSON of South Carolina submitted the following resolution; which was
referred to the Committee on Government Reform
RESOLUTION Recognizing the establishment of the Rotary Club of Capitol
Hill and the important contributions of Rotary Clubs to society.
Whereas the Rotary Club of Capitol Hill is the first new Ro-tary Club to be established in Washington, D.C., in over 90 years;
Whereas the 20 Charter Members of the Club have exempli-fied the time-honored motto of the Rotary Club to place Service above Self;
Whereas the Rotary Club of Capitol Hill is composed of an impressive array of civic leaders, congressional staff, and business professionals dedicated to their community;
Whereas the Charter Officers include President Joan I. Athen, President-Elect W. Eric Dell, Vice President Har-

old N. Burdett, Secretary James M. Romano, Treasurer Thomas G. Jenkins, Jr., and Sergeant-at-Arms James Thomas Snyder;
Whereas former Judge Frank Montgomery, Werner Fornos, J.W. Arnold, District Governor Jim McDiarmid, District Governor-Elect Ray Streib, and Catherine Tran helped establish the Rotary Club of Capitol Hill and the historic Rotary Club of Washington, D.C.;
Whereas the object of Rotary Clubs is to encourage and fos-ter the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise;
Whereas Rotary Clubs promote high ethical standards in business and the professions and encourage recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations;
Whereas Rotary Clubs believe in the dignity of the occupation of each Rotarian as an opportunity to serve society; and
Whereas Rotary Clubs support the ideal of service in the per-sonal, business, and community life of each Rotarian: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives1
(1) commends the establishment of the Rotary 2
Club of Capitol Hill; 3
(2) recognizes the important contributions of 4
Rotary Clubs to society: 5
(3) salutes the charter members and officers for 6
their commitment to service; and 7
(4) encourages the growth and longevity of the 8
Rotary Club of Capitol Hill.9
