Nature of Role:

This position is a classroom teaching role reporting to the Head of Campus through the Head of School. There are several main areas to the role of a teacher at Wesley College.

Basic FunctionThe basic function of a teacher at Wesley College is one of the development and implementation of curriculum consistent with the policy and practice of the IB (International Baccalaureate) Primary Years Programme (PYP).

Main responsibilities and Accountabilities

Teaching Practice The teacher is responsible for:

• Planning an educational programme which fosters the social, emotional, cognitive, physical and aesthetic growth of each student in collaboration with the College PYP Chinese Program Coordinator and the campus IB PYP Coordinator

• Creating fl exible environments that support learning through inquiry, enabling students to engage, refl ect, experiment and discover

• Adopting practice that refl ects innovation and creativity in design and implementation

Pastoral CareTeachers are expected to:

• Care for a pastoral group in a way which refl ects the College’s Vision and Values

• Be sensitive to students experiencing personal, social or organisational problems

• Liaise with colleagues and parents concerning the pastoral group and its individual members

Curriculum and Resource DevelopmentTeachers are expected to:

• Participate in the creation, development and evaluation of curriculum in collaboration with the College PYP Chinese Program Coordinator and the campus IB PYP Coordinator

• Participate in the creation, development and evaluation of resources for the implementation of the curriculum in collaboration with the College PYP Chinese Program Coordinator and the campus IB PYP Coordinator

• Keep up-to-date with curriculum and resource development

Professional Development Teachers are expected to:

• Participate in ongoing professional learning and the process of professional review

• Attend appropriate seminars and courses

• Participate in area association meetings as appropriate

• Supervise student teachers and actively participate in their learning

General, Administrative and Other Activities• Attend school, campus and College functions as required

• Conduct parent/teacher conferences

• Attend school, learning area, campus and College meetings

• Undertake yard and other supervision duties as required

• Demonstrate awareness of and ability to implement work health and safety practices and emergency procedures when required

Key Performance Indicators• The provision of high quality curriculum in Mandarin Chinese

• The provision of educational opportunities and activities which enable a students to achieve their highest potential in Mandarin Chinese within the Primary Years Programme

• Excellent collegial relations

• Regular participation in professional development courses and programs

• Effective involvement in the general pastoral care programs and structures of the College

• Interest and active engagement in the development of a Leading Language School

• Full awareness of work health and safety issues and procedure, complying with these and taking responsibility for one’s own health and safety

• Taking a lead role in promoting and supporting student, staff and visitor safety and well-being, anticipating and responding accordingly to potential threats

• Familiarity with emergency procedures and being ready to implement them if necessary

Position Requirements: Knowledge and Experience• Tertiary qualifi cation in Primary Education

• Registration with VIT

• Fluent/near native speaker competence in Mandarin Chinese and English

• Knowledge and understanding of the Primary years Programme of the International Baccalaureate Organization

• Knowledge and understanding of Content and Language Integrated Learning methodology (CLIL)

• Highly developed interpersonal skills
