INTRODUCTION • Mineral origin of material contains many physical ,
chemical impurities.• Purification (Shodhana) and reduction to bhasma
(Marana) form, is lengthy, tedious procedure in some cases.
• In Rasagranthas we have reference about Bhunagasatwabhasma.
• Explained as substitute to Tamrabhasma which is of animal origin ( which requires comparatively less duration).

BHASMA PARIKSHA• Bhunagasatwa Bhasma passed all Bhasma
Pariksha including Amla, Nirutha, Apunarbhava Pariksha.
• Selection of Tamra Bhasma from market Sample A, B & C those Bhasma pariksha were carried out.
• Sample C passed all Bhasma Pariksha including Amla pariksha. This sample was taken for Toxicity study.

• Tamra Bhasma group shows mortality 2 animals out of 3 and Bhunagasatwa Bhasma no mortality.

ACUTE ORAL TOXICITY
• LD 50 Determination of Tamra Bhasma was done on 1000 mg/kg b.w. where as for Bhunagasatwa Bhasma it is safe at 2000mg/kg (higher dose) and can be considered as a safe dose.
• Hematology & Biochemical parameters -The Hb % of both groups are increased.
• S.G.P.T. S.G.O.T. & serum Alkaline phosphate in Tamra Bhasma group was more increased compared to that of Bhunagasatwa Bhasma group.
It shows some obstructive pathology causing liver damage.
• Histopathology – HPR shows mild congestion in Bhunagasatwa Bhasma where
as in Tamra Bhasma shows moderate congestion.

CONCLUSION
• LD50 Dose estimation of Tamra Bhasma was estimated at 1000mg/kg and Bhunagasatwa Bhasma was safe at higher dose 2000mg/kg.
• Tamra Bhasma shows more significant Hepato toxicity where as Bhunagasatwa Bhasma shows minimum toxicity.
• Bhunagasatwa Bhasma can be used as substitute for Tamra Bhasma.
