Solid Waste Management Awareness Programme
The NSS units of Annai College of Arts & Science, Kumbakonam
organised the Solid Waste Management Awareness Programme for the NSS
Volunteers on 03.07.2015. Principal of the College, Dr. C. Anand presided
over the programme. Mr. P. Thirumoorthy, Executive Officer of Veppathur
Panchayat and Mr. C. Ilanchezhiyan spoke about the importance of Solid
Waste Management. Around 250 NSS Volunteers participated in the
Programme.

Clean India Drive (Swachch Bharat Abhiyan)
1. Kongu College of Arts & Science, Karur
The NSS Volunteers of Kongu College of Arts & Science, Karur cleaned
the Kaasipalayam village pool in Karur district on 13.07.2015. The
Volunteers removed the plastic items in the pool and also cleaned the weeds.
Around 100 Volunteers participated in the cleaning work
World Literacy Week
The NSS Volunteers of Sri Saradha College for Women, Perambalur
made the illiterates in the adopted villages to know their signature in view of
the World Literacy Week (July 8-14). Many Women were made to put their
signature during the week.

Plastic Awareness Programme
The NSS units of Sri Saradha College for Women, Perambalur
organised an awareness programme on the usage of plastics on 22.07.2015.
Mr. D. Madhubalan from Indho Trust was the resource person. He
explained the ill effects on the usage of plastics. He stressed the importance
of cleanliness of the environment in order to live a healthy life. Mr. M.
Sivasubramaniam, Chairman, Sri Saradha group of institutions, Mr. M.S.
Vivekanandan, Secretary, Sri Saradha group of institutions and Mrs. M.S.
Kannaki, Principal, Sri Saradha College for Women, Perambalur offered
felicitations.
Later the NSS Volunteers cleaned the college campus, especially
eradicated the plastic articles in the college campus. NSS Programme
Officers, Ms. C.P. Kala and Ms. Dhanalakshmi organised the programme.
International Youth Day
The Red Ribbon Club (RRC) Cell of Bharathidasan University
celebrated the International Youth Day Programme on 23.07.2015 with the
financial support of Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society (TANSACS) in
the university Campus. Artwork and Slogan Writing competitions for the
Volunteers were conducted in the Multipurpose Auditorium of
Bharathidasan University. The competitions were held based on the theme
“A Step Towards Change”. Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, NSS & RRC Coordinator,
Bharathidasan University welcomed the participants and introduced the
judges for the competitions. She also gave instructions about the
competitions to the participants. RRC Volunteers from 110 RRC
implementing colleges of Bharathidasan University took part in the
competitions. Earlier, the Photography and Poster Making competitions for
the Volunteers were conducted in the colleges.
A panel of three judges was constituted to select the top three winners
of the competitions. The panel includes Mr. P. Madhavan, District
Programme Manager, District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU),
Thanjavur, Mr. R. Senthil Kumar, District Programme Manager, DAPCU,
Trichy and Mr. K.G. Shanmuga Sundaram, District Programme Manager,
DAPCU, Pudukkottai.

Inauguration of Self-Financing NSS Unit
The Regional Directorate of NSS, Chennai has recently approved a
self-financing NSS unit to Mother Gnanamma College of Arts & Science for
Women, Varadarajanpet, Ariyalur Dt. The inauguration of NSS activities of
the college was held on 24.07.2015 in the college campus. Sr. Clara
Vasanthi, Administrator of the college welcomed the gathering. Sr.
Jacqueline Mary, Senior Sister of St. Anne‟s Church, Chennai gave a special
address with regard to National Service Scheme. Mr. A. Christhu Raja, NSS
Programme Officer explained the aim of NSS, Vision, mission, motto, etc.
Mr. A. Neppolian, Head, Department of Commerce proposed the Vote of
Thanks. Later the NSS Volunteers planted 100 saplings in the college
campus to mark the inauguration of NSS in the college.
Awareness Programme on Women Health
1. Mass College of Arts & Science, Kumbakonam
The NSS unit of Mass College of Arts & Science, Kumbakonam
organised an awareness programme on Women health on 31.07.2015. Dr.
K. Saravanan, Principal of the college inaugurated the programme. Dr. D.
Meenakshi, Joint Director of Health Services, Kumbakonam was the chief
guest for the programme.

2. St. Joseph College, Trichy
The NSS units of St. Joseph College, Trichy organised an awareness
programme on Women Health on 21.09.2015. Dr. J. Uma Maheshwari,
Coordinator, girl students‟ welfare committee of the college welcomed the
gathering. The chief Guest, Dr. Helen Cresilda from Primary Health Centre,
Kulumani, Trichy Dt gave an impressive speech on the topic „Women and
health‟ with the help of the powerpoint presentation. She gave her valuable
tips to the gathering to lead a healthy life. She inculcated many ideas to
women to lead a healthy life and to eradicate mental myths and ignorance.
An Interaction session was held between the participants and the
chief guest, in which the participants asked many doubts and they were
cleared by the Chief Guest. Ms. S. Thulasi Bharathi, Assistant Professor,
Department of Information Technology proposed the vote of thanks.

Bharathidasan University NSS Awards Programme
The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University organised the University
NSS Awards Programme at University‟s Convocation Hall on 06.08.2015.
The University awards are given in NSS Programme Officer-Male, NSS
Programme Officer-female, NSS Volunteer-male, NSS Volunteer-female and
NSS unit categories. The awards for the years 2012-13 and 2013-14 are
given in the programme.
Dr. V.M. Muthukumar, Vice-Chancellor, Bharathidasan University
presided over the programme and distributed the awards to the awardees.
During his address he said “through NSS we can achieve the dream of late
president, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam to become a developed nation”. He also
insisted that what we learnt and what we earned should reach others also.
He motivated the NSS Volunteers to be well equipped to face any kind of
problems in life. He also praised the NSS Volunteers that their services are
deserved to appreciate and receive the awards.
Mr. R. Selvanayagam, Syndicate Member of Bharathidasan University
and Librarian of Dharmapuram Adhinam Arts College, Mayiladuthurai
offered felicitation. During the felicitation he said the NSS Volunteers
should be guided in decision making. He also said that the Volunteers
should know their strengths and weaknesses to succeed in life. He
encouraged the Volunteers to serve for the society and for the nation.

Department of Women‟s Studies, Bharathidasan University welcomed the

Yoga Training Programme

The NSS units of Kongu College of Arts & Science, Karur organised a
yoga training programme on 07.08.2015 for the college students.
2. Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Arts & Science for Women,
Perambalur
Under the auspices of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Arts &
Science for Women, Perambalur, National Service Scheme had organised the
Yoga Training programme on 13.08.15 to Celebrate Vethathiri Maharishi

Medical Camp
The NSS Unit-III of Arignar Anna Govt. Arts College, Musiri, Trichy dt
organised a free Medical Camp in the adopted village of Thinnakkonam on 08.08.2015. Hr. G. Shankar from Saham Acupuncture Clinic, Manachanallur gave medicine less treatment for the public. People with
Headache, hand pain, leg pain, back pain, etc. were treated by the doctor.
Breastfeeding Week Celebrations
The NSS Unit-III of Arignar Anna Govt. Arts College, Musiri, Trichy dt organised a awareness seminar on importance of breastfeeding in the
adopted village of Thinnakkonam on 08.08.2015 afternoon. Dr. Meera Merigan was the resource person for the programme. She stressed the importance of breast feeding for the infants. Dr. D. Kolochi, Principal of the
college, Mr. P. Danraj, Panchayat President, Mr. M. Selvaraj, Social activist offered felicitations while Dr. S.K. Sivakumar, NSS Programme Officer
proposed the Vote of Thanks.

Dengue Awareness Campaign
The NSS Volunteers of Bishop Heber College, Trichy organised a
Dengue Awareness Campaign in the Kallukuzhi village of Trichy district.
The Volunteers created awareness by giving pamphlets which contained the
causes of dengue fever.
Skill Development Training
The NSS units of Cauvery College for Women, Trichy organised a skill
development training programme on 12.08.2015. NSS Programme Officers
and volunteers took part in the skill development training programme. The
training included making of bangles, chains and necklaces to the student
community. 100 students took part in the programme rendered by
Ms. Sudha, house of embroidery and skill development training.
Eye Testing Camp
The NSS units of St. Joseph College, Trichy in association with
Mahatma Eye Vision and Research Institute, Trichy organised the Eye
testing camp in the college for three days from 12.08.2015 to 14.08.2015.
Testing the vision of the students was actively carried out on these days.
Nearly thousand students made use of the camp daily. By the end of the
third day nearly three thousand students and faculty members of the college
participated in the camp and optimized it. A brief introduction about the use
of contact lenses was also given to the participants who had problems in
their vision. And token for getting a free trial lenses that can be used for

Programme Officer thanked the hospital authorities and the staff members
for conducting such a useful camp in the college.
Independence Day Celebrations at Old Age Home
It was an unique independence day for the NSS Volunteers of Cauvery
College for Women, Trichy, they celebrated with the senior citizens as the
youth of today‟s generation live in an enjoyable world not knowing the
difficulties and feelings of the aged.
The NSS Volunteers visited the Old Aged Home at Thiruvellarai on
14.08.2015 to give awareness to the students to know the feelings of the
senior citizens residing in loneliness and despair. 50 NSS Volunteers
participated in their old age home at Krishna Home situated at Thiruvellarai.
The senior citizens in the home shared their joy by singing patriotic songs in
full vigour and advised the youngsters to follow the footsteps of the National
Leaders that will avoid ill feelings, war and hatred growing in the country.
Some of the womenfolk shared their woes of sorrow of their unhappy times
at home and also gave mouth watering recipes.

Shanthakumar, Mrs. M. Neela, Mrs. A. Sahaya Jenitha and Ms. N.
Sathammai Priya organised the programme.
Anti Terrorism Day (Sadhbhavana Diwas)
Anti Terrorism Day (Sadhbhavana Diwas), the birth anniversary of late
Prime Minister of India, Shri Rajiv Gandhi was observed on 20.08.2015 by
the NSS units. The Sadhbhavana Diwas Oath was administered and

stressed the need for national integrity and communal harmony to the NSS
Volunteers.

Cleaning the Temple Premises
The NSS units of Sri Saradha College for Women, Perambalur cleaned
the temple premises in the adopted village of Koothanur on 21.08.2015.
About 50 NSS volunteers cleared the plastic bags, water packets, plates, etc.
around the temple premises during the festival time.

The NSS Volunteers of Imayam College of Arts & Science, Thuraiyur,
Trichy district cleaned the Thuraiyur Pool (Thuraiyur Teppakkulam) on
21.08.2015.

University Campus Cleaning
The NSS Volunteers cleaned the Bharathidasan University
Palkalaiperur campus on 31st August and 1st September 2015 in view of the
Academic and Administrative Audit Committee‟s visit. Around 200 NSS
Volunteers from Jamal Mohamed College, Bishop Heber College and St.
Joseph College, Trichy actively cleaned the campus.

Academic and Administrative Audit Committee’s Visit
The 4th Academic and Administrative Audit of Bharathidasan
University was held during 2nd to 4th September 2015. The committee visited
the NSS Cell on 2nd September and appreciated the activities carried out by
the NSS Cell.

Plastic Free GH Campus
The NSS units of TBML College, Porayar joined hands with the
Tharangambadi Town Panchayat in the mission of Plastic Free GH Campus.
About 70 NSS Volunteers of the college cleaned the Government Hospital on
03.09.2015. The Principal of the College inaugurated the cleaning in the
morning. About ½ ton of plastic waste was collected and handed over to the
Tharangambadi Town Panchayat cleaning team.

The university level Pre-Republic Day Parade Selection Camp was held
on 14.09.2015 in the university campus. Total of 79 male and 98 female
NSS Volunteers turned up for the event. The NSS Cell made necessary
arrangements for measuring the height, Weight, Running, Drill, etc. of the
NSS Volunteers and made the ground facilities at the University Campus for
the selection.

Workshop on Free Legal Aid for the NSS Programme Officers
The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University in association with the
Government Law College, Tiruchirappalli organised a “One Day Workshop on
Free Legal Aid for NSS Programme Officers of Bharathidasan University – An
Opportunity to serve the society” on 15.09.2015. Dr. V.M. Muthukumar,
Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University was the chief guest for the
inauguration programme. During his address he insisted the participants -
NSS Programme Officers to take the free legal aid to the NSS Volunteers of
the college, so that the NSS Volunteers will take them to the village during
their Special Camping Programme in the adopted villages. He also said that
this is one of the unique programmes organised by the Bharathidasan
University through its NSS Cell.
Dr. J. Vincent Comraj, Principal, Government Law College,
Tiruchirappalli offered felicitations. Mr. M. Rajeswaran, Assistant Professor
of Law, Government Law College, Tiruchirappalli welcomed the chief guest
and the participants while Dr. N. Murugeswari, Professor of Women Studies,
Bharathidasan University proposed the Vote of Thanks for the inauguration
programme.
During the technical Session, Dr. D. Gopal, Director, PG Course,
Dean, Student Affairs and Examinations, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law
University, Chennai spoke about “Free Legal Aid and Distributive Justice”,
Mr. Parthasarathy, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority,

Tiruchirappalli spoke about “Legal Services Authorities Act 1987 – Law in
Practice”. Dr. Ebenezar Joseph, Professor, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law
University, Chennai delivered about “Efficacy of Legal Aid at Gross Root
Level” and finally Mr. S.M. Balakrishnan, Assistant Professor, Government
Law College, Tiruchirappalli spoke about “Using Free Legal Aid to Serve the
Society”.
During the Valediction Programme in the evening, Dr. A. Ragunatha
Reddy, Director-Research & Publications, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law
University, Chennai delivered the valediction address and distributed the
certificates to the participants. During his address he appreciated the NSS
Cell and the Govt. Law College for coming forward to serve the society with
free legal aid to the NSS Programme Officers. Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, NSS
Programme Coordinator of Bharathidasan University proposed the Vote of
Thanks.
About 100 NSS Programme Officers participated in the one day
workshop. Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, NSS Programme Coordinator of

Disaster Management
1. Kongu College of Arts & Science, Karur
The NSS units of Kongu College of Arts & Science, Karur organised a
disaster management programme on 15.09.2015 for the village people of
Kaasipalayam, the adopted village of the college.
2. Holy Cross College, Trichy
The NSS units of Holy Cross College, Trichy organised a Disaster
Management programme for the NSS Volunteers on 19.09.2015. The
resource persons from Sri Sathya Sai group showed a demo on relief and
rehabilitation work during the disasters such as Tsunami, Flood, Fire
Accident, Earthquake, etc. for the volunteers.
International Ozone Day
1. NSS Cell, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli
The NSS Cell and the Department of Environmental Management of
Bharathidasan University organised an awareness rally on 16.09.2015 in
view of the International Ozone Day. Around 500 NSS Volunteers and the
NSS Coordinator, Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha participated in the rally, which
started from TVS Tollgate and went through Central Bus Stand and ended
at District Collectorate, Trichy.

2. Rotaract Club
The NSS Volunteers from Bharathidasan University participated in
the cycle rally conducted by the Rotaract Club of Shakthi, Trichy in view of
the International Ozone Day on 14.09.2015. Mr. N. Satheesh, District
Forest Officer, Trichy flagged off the rally, in which 200 NSS Volunteers
participated. The rally commenced from St. Joseph College and ended at St.
John‟s Vestry Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School passing through Thillai
Naar, District Court and City Corporation Office. Mrs. A. Jaya, Mayor of
Tiruchirappalli City Corporation, Mrs. M. Vijayalakshmi, Commissioner of
Tiruchirappalli City Corporation received the participants at the ending
point. The volunteers also planted tree saplings both at the starting point
and at the ending point.

3. Arignar Anna Govt. Arts College, Musiri, Trichy dt
The NSS unit-3 of Arignar Anna Govt. Arts College, Musiri organised
an awareness programme on 16.09.2015 in view of the International Ozone
Day. The Volunteers distributed pamphlets to the public, which contained
the importance of ozone layer and the information about how to protect it.
The volunteers planted 25 saplings in the adopted village.

Domestic Violence against Women
The NSS units of of Cauvery College for Women, Trichy organised an
awareness programme to the students on Domestic Violence against
Women. 50 NSS Volunteers participated in which Ms. Vijaya Babu, Advocate
and Notary Public was the resource person. She urged the students to be
more patient and empower themselves with many skills
Personality Development Programme
The NSS units of Vivekananda College of Arts & Science for Women,
Sirkali, Nagapattinam organised a personality development programme on
23.09.2015. NSS Programme Officer, Ms. K. Punithavathi welcomed the
gathering. Mr. R. Selvanayagam, Syndicate Member of Bharathidasan
University was the chief guest for the programme. He motivated the
volunteers to follow the lifestyle of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
NSS Day Celebrations
1. Holy Cross College, Trichy
The NSS units of Holy Cross College, Trichy celebrated the NSS Day
on 25.09.2015 in the college campus. Dr. P. Krishnan, Assistant Professor
of Tamil and NSS Programme Officer, Periyar E.V.R. College, Trichy
explained the history of NSS and the prestige of being an NSS Volunteer.

Personality and Leadership to Catering Students
About 200 students of Vidiyal Catering Technology at Karavadi were
given awareness on improving their personality at Grama Vidiyal Centre on
28.08.2015. NSS Programme Officers of Cauvery College for Women, Dr.Rita
Shanthakumar spoke on the topic „Love and Compassion‟ and to serve
mankind by being humane by possessing values which is fast diminishing in
today‟s world. Dr. A.R. Gomathy motivated the students to groom oneself
well with good etiquette, mannerisms, food habits and cleanliness. Mrs. M.
Neela briefed the students on Time Management and urged the students to
be prompt and never to waste time in their youth. Students interacted with
the NSS Programme Officers and cleared their doubts on Healthy and
Nutrition.
The Principal of the Catering College Mr. F. Arun Prasad and the Vice
Principal, Mr. Sathish Kumar lauded the efforts and the initiative taken by
the Principal of the Cauvery College for Women, Dr. V. Sujatha for launching
a new drive to the catering students.
Health Care Awareness Programme
The NSS units of Vivekananda College of Arts & Science for Women,
Sirkali organised an awareness programme on health care on 29.09.2015.
Dr. P. Muthukumar, M.D., was the chief guest for the programme. He

explained the causes for the diseases and how to cure it. About 1100
students of the college were benefitted through the programme.
RRC Programme Officers Meet & Peer Educators Training
The Red Ribbon Club (RRC) of Bharathidasan University in
association with the Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society (TANSACS),
Chennai organised the RRC Programme Officers Meeting and Peer Educators
Training Programme on 30.09.2015 at A/C Auditorium, Bharathidasan
University, Tiruchirappalli.
The chief guest for the inauguration programme is Dr. A. Leema Rose,
Syndicate Member of Bharathidasan University and Associate Professor of
Chemistry, Holy Cross College, Trichy. During her address she pointed the
statistical data about the HIV/AIDS infected persons and briefed about the
Vision and objectives of Red Ribbon Club.
Mr. P. Madhavan, District Programme Manager, District AIDS
Prevention and Control Unit, Thanjavur district gave a brief introduction
about the training programme. Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, RRC Coordinator of
Bharathidasan University proposed the Vote of Thanks. Earlier, Mr. P.
Masilamani, RRC Programme Officer of Bharathidasan University Unit
welcomed the gathering.
RRC Programme Officers of 110 RRC functioning colleges and more
than 220 RRC Volunteers as Peer Educators from RRC implementing
colleges in 8 districts under the jurisdiction of Bharathidasan University
were participated in the programme. This programme was coordinated by
the Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, RRC Coordinator of Bharathidasan University.
During the Technical Session Mr. P. Madhavan, District Programme
Manager, Thanjavur spoke about “Celebrating Life” and Mr. R. Senthil
Kumar, District Programme Manager, Trichy delivered a talk about “Role of
Programme Officers in implementing RRC Activities” with the help of
powerpoint presentations.
