    BFCCPS 2012 Summer Course CatalogThe Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter Public School is pleased to announce the2012 Summer Course Offerings! Classes are offered by BFCCPS faculty and staffmembers.Course Descriptions:The classes are divided by grade level and cover a multitude of topics across allcontent areas. All classes are offered at BFCCPS. A class description, date, time,and minimum/maximum enrollment is listed for each class, as well as the per-classfee. Course fees are determined based on an hourly rate of $10.00 per hour per day,not to exceed $100 per student per course.

    Registration Information:Registrations are on a first-come, first-serve basis. The registration forms can befound on pages 13-16. Please return the registration form and tuition to BFCCPSmain office no later than May 25th. If you are registering for classes from multipleteachers, please make sure to include one check per teacher. Once the registrationform and tuition have been received by the teacher, they will send you a registrationconfirmation via kidMail and/or email. Classes will be canceled if the minimumregistration is not achieved. All classes must be paid for at the time of registration.No refunds for classes will be processed after June 8th.

    Creative Writing Using Art: Artists use their art to tell a story or convey a mes-sage or idea. No two stories are alike. Everyone who looks at art interprets theartists meaning differently. During this class, students will have the opportunityto combine the artwork of Grant Wood (American Gothic), Diego Rivera (The FlowerCarrier), and John Biggers (Family of Six) to create imaginative stories and tales

    Simply Fun Scrapbooking: Each day I will demonstrate several scrap bookingand stamping techniques that the students will then use to create unique and per-sonalized photo scrapbooks. By the end of the week, each student will have acomplete, handmade 20-page 12X12 in. scrapbook of memories. As the school counselor, I lovebeing in the position to teach our girls necessary skills and talk out frustrating sit-uations., but time can be short during the busy school day! This summer, I amexcited to dedicate a full week to our teenage girls! This group will focus on help-ing teenage girls build self-esteem, improve body image, learn healthy eating, prac-tice relaxation techniques, and discuss topics of their interest/concern, such asfriendships, trust, honesty, increasing academic pressures, internest safety andmore. Conversation topics prior to the group beginning are welcome for considera-tion! Please bring your lunch!

    Private Music Lessons

    The success of our band and music program relies on the students continuing instrumentallessons during the summer vacation to continue their personal growth and retention of instru-mental musical skills and performance levels presented during the school year. The privatelesson program being offered here at the Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter Public Schoolwill be open to students currently enrolled in the instrumental program and children of thefaculty and staff of BFCCPS.Lessons will be on a private basis (student and teacher) on a 1/2 hour per week basis. Sum-mer lessons will be taught Monday through Thursday at the school between the hours of 8:00a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Schedules will vary with the instrumental faculty members. Please note:Mr. Heater will be available only one day for all of his brass and percussion lessons (Tuesdayor Wednesday, depending on student enrollment). Faculty members will include our ownprofessional teachers and college instrumental performance majors (if needed) with special-ties on their particular instrument..The program will begin on Monday, June 25, 2012 and run for 7 weeks ending August 9,2012. Vacations are not a problem. Notification to the teacher of vacation weeks is all that is

    required. Students will benefit with even a few lessons. The cost of the program is $20.00per lesson. This will be payable directly to the teacher on a weekly basis at the lesson time.If interested in registering for the program, simply fill out the form on the next page. Clipand send the form to Mr. Benjamin at school by June 6th. The teachers will contact the indi-vidual students and parents to set up the schedule.
