Please note: In most cases Laser media will not work in a Inkjet printer, nor is it safe to run some inkjet media throughmost laser printers.

Most of our special laser media will simply not work when used with an inkjet printer, so please make sure you are order-ing the right media.

Q. I want to make temporary tattoos in relatively large quantities of a few hundred ormore at a time. Is your media suitable for this?A. No. Our tattoo kits are ideal for the hobbyist or anyone who wants to make 20 to 40tattoos at a time using our transfer adhesive sheets. For quantities of a few hundred ormore at once this is an unrealistic approach.

Q. I want to make outdoor labels, but they must last for one or more years.A. The ONLY way this is possible is to screen print onto vinyl media or film using industrialinks that is certified for this purpose. We now offer waterproof vinyl for inkjet printers andwhite glossy film for HP laser printers.

Q. I want to use my laser printer to create bumper stickers. Can I use your media for this?A. Yes. We now offer glossy white film that is printable in Hewlett Packard laser printers. The outdoor life of the sticker is deter-mined by the UV resistance of the laser toner and the wear and tear the label may be subjected to. We therefore encourage theuse of an over-laminate with laser printed labels.

Q. I want to use my inkjet printer to create bumper stickers. Can I use your media for this?A. Yes. Just use our waterproof inkjet vinyl in combination with our over-laminate. The UV resistance of the ink and not the waterfastness will be your biggest concern. For longer outdoor life use photo inks or achievable inks. It is unrealistic to expect excep-tionally long outdoor life from bumper stickers that can be made one at a time for pennies using your desktop equipment. Profes-sional quality bumper stickers are manufactured using industrial UV proof inks and screen printing. Today s inkjet printers offer amuch longer outdoor life than was previously possible when using a inkjet printer. So when you consider the quick turn aroundtime and low cost of printing outdoor labels using an inkjet or laser printer, it is a realistic approach.

Q. I want to make ceramic decals and fire them in a kiln using your Aqua Slide paper. Can I use your media for this?A. No. See the question below. Personal computer printers do not print using over-glaze colors.

Q. I want to make Ceramic Decals. Can I use your paper?A. Yes. We offer printing machines and over-glaze colors for this purpose. If you are serious about creating ceramic decals,please carefully read the following paragraph to fully understand the concept before calling us for more information.For those unfamiliar with screen printing, additional reading is required and is available from your local library. The term ceramicdecal as it is used here refers to an over-glaze decal that must be fired onto porcelain or other manufactured glazed porcelain,ceramic, or stoneware that can be kiln fired to cone 015 (800°C or 1470°F). Decals are simply screen printed using the over-glaze colors supplied in powder form. The colors are mixed with an oil and/or a pasty substance (called medium) to make up theink used in the screen printing process. This screen printing is done onto our PPF water-slide paper and later covered with a

supporting film to make up the ceramic decal. A printer such as the HAN1013 must be used to print onto our PPF paper. For abroader understanding of this concept, please check your local library and look for books about screen printing and china paint-ing. If books aren t readily available, you can make an inter-library request.

Q. I m looking for film to make custom mouse pads. Do you carry this?A. Yes. Our cold laminate or anti skid floor laminate (Item code: POL) is ideal. The textured finish of this film can be applied overany previously printed substrate and give excellent tracking results for optical mice.

Q. How can inkjet media be waterproof when the ink itself is water soluble?A. The concept is similar to when fruit juice is spilled onto a white cotton fabric, such as a T-shirt. Dye molecules get trapped inthe cotton fibers and can not be removed easily by using a gentle stream of cold water. Often warm water and soap will not evenremove the stain.

Q. I want to make dye sub images on ceramic tiles. Can I use my color laser printer and your PAS paper for this?A. No. Ceramic decals and sublimation are two different things. Ceramic decals are made using fritted metal oxide (china paint)which fuses onto the glaze of porcelain and ceramic at 800°C. Dye sublimation is the transfer of dye sublimation ink using lowheat onto ceramic ware that has been coated with a polymer film. This process takes place at around 148°C. Printing on thePAS film is a COLD transfer where water is used to slide the carrier film onto the item. This is for decorative use only.

Q. I want to put decals onto ceramic mugs that must be dishwasher safe. Can I do this using your IAS, PAS/2, PAS/N orPAS/Z?A. No. By baking the new PAS/Z HP Laser water-slide decal in an oven at 345°F for about 15 minutes the decal will stick firmlyto the ceramic mug allowing it to be hand washed without the decal coming off. Items decorated in this fashion are not consid-ered dishwasher safe.

In November of 1999, HPS began manufacturing our self-adhesive inkjet vinyl in waterproof matte white, glossywhite, and transparent. Our inkjet vinyl is brought to youunder our brand name: Hyaz Dallas.

All of our vinyl products are made from quality cast vinyl, with apermanent pressure sensitive adhesive backing. We makewaterproof white matte vinyl in addition to our white and

clear/transparent vinyl. Use our regular vinyl indoors for labelsor point of sale displays whether temporary or permanent. Out-doors our regular vinyl can be used with our over-laminate fortemporary labels. The life of an outdoor label made with ourregular vinyl will depend on the quality of the over-laminationjob. Make sure that no moisture will be able to reach the labelafter the over-laminate is applied. Extend the over-laminate be-yond the edges of the label and only apply to flat, non-absorbentsubstrates such as: automotive paint, chrome, glass, etc. For alonger lasting outdoor label, we strongly recommend the use ofour waterproof over-laminate WOL (Page 20).

Our waterproof vinyl is much better suited for any outdoor use.We strongly recommend using our over-laminate in combina-tion with our waterproof vinyl to greatly extend the life of youroutdoor labels. Over-laminating will NOT give satisfactory per-manent results using our regular vinyl media, as moisture willeventually penetrate the over-laminate and destroy the imagealong with the label.

Manufacturers Recommendations :To make high quality bumper stickers, outdoor labels, etc weencourage the use of our waterproof vinyl together with ourover-laminate.

Before manufacturing:Always perform tests to ensure full compatibility between yourequipment and our media.

Our glossy clear ultra cling vinyl can be peeled off of almost any substrate safely, making it ideal for temporary labels of any kind. Thismedia is perfect for making window stickers for the inside of car windows. You can make these labels by printing a mirror image on thismedia then covering it with a white window film masking spray (Page 18.). After drying, just peel off the liner and the image will beviewed correctly through the adhesive side, and ready for mounting on the inside of any window.

Our clear liquid urethane is perfect for making permanent pro-

duction decals.

The most durable and strongest top coating available for use with our PAS decalpaper or as a top coat for any other media or finish. Ideal for making permanentproduction decals.

So flexible that it can even be used on vinyl banners, our Liquid Urethane Coat-ing is also scratch resistant and extremely strong.

The instruction for our PAS paper recommend printing your image in Mirror ,or flipped horizontally and then applying your decal face down. This is importantfor two reasons:

a) To allow the decal film to protect the ink (the image)b) To make the decal more compatible with various top coatings, especially if

using an Alps printer. The Alps ink reacts with most any clear spray, otherthan a few types of artistic fixatives which offer poor protection.

After applying the decal face down it is recommended that you then apply a clearfinish, as the PAS film (which protects the ink if the decal if applied face down)can handle almost any clear finish on the market. But now, by using our urethaneover-laminate you no longer have to apply the decal face down when using acolor laser printer or an Alps printer.

But why use Papilio Liquid Urethane instead of an epoxy or similar product youcan find at the local hardware store?

There are 3 reasons:1) Durability.2) Flexibility.3) Strength.

No epoxy known will offer both the strength and flexibility of our urethane. Theepoxies sold in hardware stores are also not designed to perform as a thin film.Using epoxy you may encounter the following problems:

Epoxy will:1) Yellow (Turn yellow after a few months or one or two years)2) Craze (Develop a fine haze of hairline cracks, due to a lack of flexibility).3) Delaminate (turns milky white and loses strength when soaked for an ex-

tended period of time, due to poor water resistance).

Also note that epoxy will instantly smudge Alps MD series ink and even somecolor laser toners, making it useable as an over-laminate only if the decal is ap-plied face down. But, as mentioned above most epoxy makes a poor over-laminate due to yellowing and crazing. Our liquid urethane is now being used byscale model artists, automobile and motorcycle detailing shops, and as a perma-nent top coating for decals and artwork.

Instructions:

Never work with this urethane if the temperature is be-low 72°F.

Ideal mixture ratio = 85% Part A to 15% Part B orMix 1 Part B to 5 Parts A for a faster curing time.

Mix only the amount you intend to use.

Mix together in a small disposable container then pour thecombined mixture into another container continuing tostir for a few minutes.

Let sit for 15 minutes before use.

Pot life = 3 Hours (Depends on humidity/temperature).Curing time is 6 to 8 hours, and reaches full strength in afull days.

Use Acetone for cleanup if required. We encourage theuse of disposable mixing sticks, cups, and foam pads. Foampads are available from HPS.

Our Laser Polyester Media is available in glossy white and clear

with either a permanent or ultra removable adhesive.

We have adhesive polyester film available for use in most colorlaser printers. For high heat printers such as the HP2550 usethe products beginning with HP for most other color laserprinters look for our GL line (Page 13) .

Ideal for making production labels and permanent markings. Thepermanent adhesive on our laser polyester allows for removaland repositioning before becoming permanent, to allow for mis-takes. Perfect for plastics such as: PVC, HDPE, and LDPE bottlesalso on glass, metal, most any substrate that will accept adhesivemedia.

Also available with an ultra removable adhesive for labels thatmust be safely removed such as temporary labels placed on win-dows, consumer electronics, etc..
