WANTED!
The old saying is April showers bring May flowers...in reality May brings sports, beach trips,
graduations, weddings, Memorial Day, and planning for Summer vacations. Also, don’t
forget that;
May 1st is Mother Goose Day
May 4th is Star Wars Day
May 8th is No Socks Day
May 11th is Eat What You Want Day
May 12th is National Limerick Day
May 23rd is World Turtle Day
Celebrate responsibly!
All that being said, May is also a very important month to be active at church.
• On May 5th, we will be sharing worship with other Effingham churches at the Sunday
School Convention. No, this is not a skip day from church! It’s a day to dress casual, enjoy
our awesome weather, and worship with friends from across the county. Meet us at our tent
at 9:30 a.m.
• May 12th is Mother’s Day. That means bring your Mom to church and then take her out to
lunch, in that order! Oh, tell her you love her too.
• May 19th is Promotion Sunday. We take this one Sunday a year to shine the spotlight
on our awesome kids and their teachers, and recognize our high school and college
graduates. Be in worship this morning to show our kids how important they are to the life of
our church.
• May 26th Diane Wilhelm, our awesome Lay Leader, will be bringing us a special message
in worship. So before you hit the beach or grill the burgers for Memorial Day, come and
hear the word of God from someone who is truly passionate about it!
Don’t forget our ROAD to GROWTH either. Please pray for our Stephen Ministers as
they finish their training and also for our building committee as they work on a proposal to
present to the District Building Committee in June! And of course we have Vacation Bible
School, just around the corner (June 10th - 14th, 6-8:30 pm) and we need adult
helpers!!! Talk to Vicky about how you can use your gifts and resources to support
this incredible ministry!
May will be a busy month for all of us, but remember, you are part of this family and your
presence and involvement is essential! Don’t make us put a wanted poster with your picture
on it! See you Sunday morning!
God Bless Us All!
Brother David

Thoughts for May, 2019 Lost… Socks, Coins, Souls, Freedoms
Once again I find myself looking at all the “days” set aside in May. Some are serious, some are quite humorous. For some reason (perhaps because it hit home) Lost Sock Memorial Day caught my eye. Those persons who set aside this day say:
Lost Sock Memorial Day (May 9) recognizes your drawer full of unmatched socks. Each unmatched sock represents a missing sock. We never throw away our unmatched socks. After all, it may show up someday. On Lost Sock Memorial Day, we suggest you spend a little time (as little as possible) searching for those missing socks. After a (very) brief search, and in good "Memorial" spirit, spend a minute reflecting upon how warm and comforting the missing socks were on your toes. Then, use this special day, to toss out all of your unmatched socks and by all means, get on with your life.
No, we really should not spend a lot of time looking for that lost sock…after all the dryer probably ate it long ago! But, when do we stop looking for other lost things? Are there some lost things for which we should never stop searching? Mark 8:35-37 says
“If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?”
No matter what, we should never give up on a lost soul. Remember the woman and the coin found in Luke 15:8-10:
“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Won’t she light a lamp and sweep the entire house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she will call in her friends and neighbors and say, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.”
Every lost soul is important to God…it should be important to us! Pray daily for the lost – in your family, among your friends, living in the neighborhood. Never give up…Jesus continues to heal and to save the lost. It is His desire that none perish, that all will have eternal life. Pray for our nation. Thursday, May 2, is the National Day of Prayer, the day set aside to pray for the nation Dr. Ronnie Floyd, president of the National Day of Prayer, announced that the theme of the 2019 observance on Thursday, May 2, will be “Love One Another,” based upon the words of Jesus in John 13:34, which says, “Love one another. Just as I have loved you.” Ask God to restore love for each other. Set aside time on May 2 to pray for the President, Congress and the Supreme Court. Remember our state and local governments as well. Ask God to preserve those who serve in our military. We do not want to lose our freedoms, our peace, or even the nation itself. Diane Wilhelm, Prayer Ministry Coordinator
