Learning
This activity will take place while you are on placement in a dentist.
In this task the employer has asked you to:
• Do a stock check to identify which material needs to be reordered
• Compare prices of some of the basic consumables used in the dental practice
Learning
In this task, you will be covering the areas detailed below.
Dental Nursing:
• Understanding of the types of stock used in a dental practice
• Understand the costs associated with equipment and materials and their direct impact on treatments
• Functional Skills Mathematics:
• Carry out calculations with numbers of any size in practical context, to a given number of decimal places

Functional Skills English Level 1 and Level 2:
• Formal and informal writing
• Document layout

Stock Checking
Task 1
The dental practice has been very busy and needs to replenish the stock. Your employer has asked you to complete a stock check to identify which types of stock need to be ordered. First of all you need to work out how many different items are stocked (this could be a large amount so limit this to 10 items).

Pick 5 of the items you have listed and use the internet/catalogues to price up the items from different suppliers.

Write a report to your employer giving details of your activity and what your recommendations are for purchasing equipment based on your results. You may want to use charts to show the differences in prices.
