A Career Focused on the Factual
Lee Woodruff’s career has, up to this point, focused on non-fiction: namely, writing and reporting.
She and her husband CBS News correspondent Bob Woodruff co-authored the New York Times
best-seller , In an Instant . She is also the author of an award-winning essay collection, Perfectly
Imperfect . A contributing editor for CBS’s This Morning, she reports on a variety of family- and
parenting-related issues, which have also been the subject matter of her many articles published
in Parade, Health, and Redbook . Along with her husband, she is founder of the Bob Woodruff
Foundation to assist wounded service members and their families.

“A bright June day. A split-second distraction. A family forever changed.”
Those We Love Most draws on Woodruff’s personal experiences to
explore the way a tightly-knit family copes with a terrible tragedy.
One summer morning, Maura Corrigan awakens happy and secure,
with a loving husband and three healthy, vivacious children. By the
end of the day, her entire world will be shattered and everything
that she thinks she knows will have changed when her small son is
killed in a car accident. The fractures and fissures in both Maura’s
life and her marriage are suddenly thrown into high relief, which is
apparent to not only her and her husband, but also to her parents,
who are grappling with hidden strains of their own.
Told through the alternating perspectives of four people over the course of a year, the book
examines the ways in which the unthinkable forces the characters to confront their choices,
examine their mistakes, fight for their most valuable relationships, and ultimately find their way
back to each other.
