We will continue to integrate and introduce these work habits into our non-academic assessment of student growth each quarter this year. Number 206 October-November 2016

To the Spartan Family,

We have had a good start to the school year thanks to the efforts of our teachers, parents and students.

Parent-Teacher Conferences are set for October 11th

-13th, so please visit our website @

www.thompson.k12.co.us/berthoudhs for details on scheduling conferences. For those of you in a SBI

classroom, Mr. Scheck and I will be available in the commons with a helpful guide to SBI conferences during

this first transition year. We will also have a SBI 101 information table in the commons for any questions you

may have. This past month we introduced the TSD Work Habits and will be collecting some data on how our

students are doing in the first of four Work Habits, which is Communication. The other three work habits are

Collaboration, Creative Thinking and Self Agency. We also informally call these work habits employability

skills. We will continue to integrate and introduce these work habits into our non-academic assessment of

student growth each quarter this year.

We recently sent out information about PARCC and CMAS data from last year. I encourage you to make

sure your student participates in every opportunity to assess where they are at academically to give them a better

idea on strength areas and areas to improve. We have a big testing day on October 19th

. We will be assessing all

classes, except for the seniors, in PSAT pre-tests or the PSAT/NMSQT test in the morning. There will be several

activities and resource sessions for the seniors to take part in if they choose to attend that morning.

I want to thank all of you that gave your resources and time to make our Homecoming week a great

success for our students! All of the activities and sporting events were positive representations of Berthoud High

School. Please visit berthoudhighschool.com for the necessary paperwork for Winter Sports that are right around

the corner!

Berthoud High School S.T.E.M Program

invites you to attend …

Students will present summaries of their project and be awarded a Certificate of Completion for their hard work and dedication in completing the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Program at Berthoud

High School.

The students’ posters will be available for viewing and refreshments will be served after the presentations.

With new members and more participation in events, the BHS Future Business Leaders of America chapter has started off with an amazing year. We hope to have even more people qualify for the state competition once again at Vail, Colorado, April 14-16. We're also excited to have the National FBLA competition in Anaheim, California, June 29 - July 2, right next to Disneyland! In recent news, BHS FBLA attended the Fall Leadership Conference at UNC Greeley. There, many students learned about how to be more effective business leaders while spending the day exploring a university. Another exciting FBLA event that's approaching is the Denver Nuggets DECA Group Night, in which FBLA members will get a tour, see special presentations, and see the Denver Nuggets take on the Phoenix Suns on November 16th! We will have great lower level tickets on sale at a reduced price for new members, and returning members get to go absolutely free! Students are still able to join FBLA, we are still able to sign up for any events. FBLA meets on Tuesdays at lunch in Mr. Lobdell's room, #60, we are always looking for new members.

ACT/SAT National Tests

You may check ACT Test dates and register online at

www.act.org, or you may pick up a registration packet

in the counseling office. For information about SAT

Test dates and online registration, go to

www.collegeboard.com

We encourage all students to take their college

entrance exams (ACT, ACT Plus Writing, SAT, SAT

Subject Tests) more than one time in order to get their

best results and open doors for college entrance and

scholarship opportunities.

SENIOR INTERVIEWS - The counselors are

currently conducting their fall Senior Interviews with

every senior student. During these interviews we

conduct a credit check to ensure that all seniors are in

the classes they need to complete for graduation and

college entrance. We also discuss your students’

plans after high school and provide them with

resources and tips on how to get prepared. Your

senior also registered for their FAFSA PIN, their

College Opportunity Fund account, and logged on to

Naviance to review how to request transcripts, sign up

for college visits, research college admissions

requirements, and much more information.

Spartans - Apply for College now!

The counselors want to remind parents that we

encourage seniors to complete and submit college

applications by November 1st. It is important that

each student check with the colleges and universities

that they are interested in to ensure that they are aware

of the application deadlines for those schools. Some

schools do have application deadlines prior to

November 1st.

your college applications using
