It might not have always been that way, but it’s under- standable once you learn a little about her history. Before moving to Berthoud 25 years ago, Mitteis was in northeast Nebraska and then Wyoming, working as an emergency dispatcher. She even won Dispatcher of the Year while living in Wyo- ming in 1987. Through these experiences it’s easy to understand why one might tend toward a more negative view of people. For a brief time she was even a dis- patcher in Berthoud after moving here during Chief Wegener’s day. Mitteis and her husband relocated to Berthoud in May of 1988 in an ef- fort to help her aging mother who sadly passed a week after they arrived. However, Mitteis is no longer a dis- patcher and instead is the owner and manager of Blue Spruce Mobile Home Park that her parents started in 1967. “When we first came to Berthoud we didn’t expect to be here long. Dad died in 1979 and we came to help Mom into a senior facility. I tell people ‘we moved here temporarily 25 years ago,’” says Mitteis. Blue Spruce is one of four mobile home communities in Berthoud and is located south of Mountain Avenue off First Street. It has 89 spaces, and when full Mitteis claims “it can be a busy time. But we have fun. We have everyone from families with kids, to retired folks, to those who work nights. We’re a good group.” Her love of people took root here in Berthoud. She states, “Berthoud is a com- munity, not a city, a com- munity. You know people and they know you. It’s not a city, it’s a town.” This affection is reflected in her contribution to the Berthoud Area Chamber of Commerce. From chamber ambassador, to secretary, and currently serving on the board for a second time, Mitteis shows her fondness for the town by being involved in it. “I love this town and I’m trying to help in any way I can.” In her own right, Mitteis is also a hero. In 2010 she fought the scary battle against breast cancer and at this point con- tinues with good health. “After chemo and radiation I told the doctor that I’ll run faster than the cancer, and I want to live to 120 with quality of life and then just stop. Now I’m back and running faster than ever,” she proudly states. Mitteis enjoys people. It’s evident in her business and the feeling she en- courages there and in her contributions to the chamber and the town. Mitteis likes the people of Berthoud and it shows. Barb Mitteis likes people. It might not have always

been that way, but it’s under-standable once you learn a little about her history.

Before moving to Berthoud 25 years ago, Mitteis was in northeast Nebraska and then Wyoming, working as an emergency dispatcher.

She even won Dispatcher of the Year while living in Wyo-ming in 1987.

Through these experiences it’s easy to understand why one might tend toward a more negative view of people.

For a brief time she was even a dis-patcher in Berthoud after moving here during Chief Wegener’s day.

Mitteis and her husband relocated to Berthoud in May of 1988 in an ef-fort to help her aging mother who sadly passed a week after they arrived.

However, Mitteis is no longer a dis-patcher and instead is the owner and manager of Blue Spruce Mobile Home Park that her parents started in 1967.

“When we fi rst came to Berthoud we didn’t expect to be here long. Dad died in 1979 and we came to help Mom into a senior facility. I tell people ‘we moved here temporarily 25 years ago,’” says Mitteis.

Blue Spruce is one of four mobile home communities in Berthoud and is located south of Mountain Avenue off

First Street. It has 89 spaces, and when full Mitteis claims “it

can be a busy time. But we have fun. We have everyone from families with kids, to retired folks, to those who work nights. We’re a good group.”

Her love of people took root here in Berthoud. She states, “Berthoud is a com-munity, not a city, a com-munity. You know people and they know you. It’s not a city, it’s a town.”

This affection is refl ected in her contribution to the Berthoud Area Chamber of Commerce. From chamber ambassador, to secretary, and currently serving on the board for a second time, Mitteis shows her fondness for the town by being involved in it.

“I love this town and I’m trying to help in any way I can.”

In her own right, Mitteis is also a hero.

In 2010 she fought the scary battle against breast cancer and at this point con-

tinues with good health. “After chemo and radiation I told

the doctor that I’ll run faster than the cancer, and I want to live to 120 with quality of life and then just stop. Now I’m back and running faster than ever,” she proudly states.

Mitteis enjoys people. It’s evident in her business and the feeling she en-courages there and in her contributions to the chamber and the town.
