About Wider World Wider World aims to reduce inequality of access to opportunities for children by developing their key life and learning skills through experiential and theory-based activities. These skills enable our children to flourish and become self-aware, confident adults, knowledgeable about and active in their local communities. We believe one of the best ways to do this is through sustained, personalised early intervention, working in partnership with parents, schools and local community provision. Our six-month intensive enrichment programmes support some of Bristol’s most disadvantaged young children from aged 8 to 12yrs, when research has demonstrated children become highly responsive to metacognitive approaches. We take groups of 12 children from low-income backgrounds on each programme, identified by their schools as those who would most benefit. Wider World has been operating since August 2014 and we are currently at an exciting stage where we are updating our ongoing strategy, setting our three year development plan, building a new website and also looking to expand our Trustee board to fill our current skill-gaps and help the charity to grow and achieve its vision over the years to come. As our website (www.wider-world.org.uk) is being rebuilt it only details limited information at present, however an information booklet has been included on the next page to illustrate more of the charity’s output. Our registered charity number is 1161397. 1

About Wider WorldWider World aims to reduce inequality of access to opportunities for children by developing their key life and learning skills through experiential and theory-based activities.

About UsWider World is a Bristol-based charity supporting children to develop character strengths and life skills through stimulating enrichment experiences. We design and deliver exciting skills-development programmes for children aged 8 to 12 years, taking them on day trips to venues across Bristol and providing in-school reflection and planning sessions. Since

2014 we have worked with primary schools across Bristol to deliver programmes for over 200 children.

Our Enrichment ProgrammeOver a period of seven-months, twelve children will be given the opportunity to participate in our specially designed character-building enrichment programme. We offer a varied range of enrichment activities, encompassing the worlds of science, the arts, nature, sport and work. Examples of our trips include indoor-climbing, museum visits, ice-skating, forest schools, teambuilding, Bristol Zoo and many more. Our programme

supports children to build a set of core skills and character strengths that research has proven to be critical for success in life. These character strengths are resilience, confidence, problem solving, leadership, teamwork, goal-setting, and curiosity. Most activities take place during the school holidays. Children are collected and returned to a local designated location (usually the school) by minibus. The programme is free of charge to families, funded by charity fundraising and participating schools.

EligibilityWe work closely with our two chosen schools to select twelve children to invite to be part of the programme. Children are selected from those who are eligible for Pupil Premium or similar funding. School staff will consider the needs, strengths and skills of each eligible child to determine who to invite. If selected, children are expected to commit to attending all sessions for the duration of the programme.

Find Out MoreTo find out more about the programme you can contact your child’s school, look at our website, Facebook and Twitter pages or contact either Jonothan (Operational
