For Immediate Release September 6, 2010 DR. BENISHEK: “VOTERS WISE TO CAREER POLITICIAN’S DISTORTION GAME” McDowell’s Desperate Attempt to Scare Seniors  Requires Apology MACKINAC BRIDGE, MI   Dr. Dan Benishek, Candidate for Congress in Michigan’s 1st District, today issued the following statement in response to State Representative Gary McDowell’s attempt to scare seniors and distort positions on Social Security: Gary McDowell’s predictable attempt to distort my position on Social Security and scare senior citizens is absolutely shameless. Mr. McDowell is desperate. He has had nothi ng to say about this important issue  or any issue  for the last four months, but now he sees fit to twist, distort, and defame another candidate’s views? 1 Gary McDowell needs to apologize to seniors for this disreputable tactic, as it says a lot about what he learned as a career politician for nearly 30 years. On Thursday, Dr. Benishek released a position paper detailing his views on Social Security which clearly stated, I do not favor any reduction, freeze, or changes in the benefits provid ed existing retiree s. This is a promise made to those over the age of 62 by their government, and it must be honored 100 percent. No ifs, ands, or buts. Period. On Saturday, exactly as predicted, Mr. McDowell attempted to use the Social Security issue for political gain by issuing a press release that engaged in scare tactics with elderly voters during this election season. Despite the projected shortfalls in the Social Security system over the next few decades, Mr. McDowell provided no details regarding what he would do to strengthen the system for future retirees  especially those under age 55  who will be entering the system. Gary McDowell can continue to misstate the views of others, while having few answers himself, but I am confident that Michigan seniors will reject this tawdry tactic by putting an end to McDowell’s 27 years in office. Mr. McDowell, you owe both Michigan’s First Distric t seniors and voters an apology, Dr. Benishek concluded. Gary McDowell’s predictable attempt to distort my position on Social Security and scare

senior citizens is absolutely shameless. Mr. McDowell is desperate. He has had nothingto say about this important issue — or any issue — for the last four months, but now he

sees fit to twist, distort, and defame another candidate’s views?1 Gary McDowell needs

to apologize to seniors for this disreputable tactic, as it says a lot about what he learned as

ifs, ands, or buts. Period.‖

On Saturday, exactly as predicted, Mr. McDowell attempted to use the Social Security issue for political

gain by issuing a press release that engaged in scare tactics with elderly voters during this election season.Despite the projected shortfalls in the Social Security system over the next few decades, Mr. McDowell

provided no details regarding what he would do to strengthen the system for future retirees — especially

those under age 55 — who will be entering the system.

―Gary McDowell can continue to misstate the views of others, while having few answers himself, but I

am confident that Michigan seniors will reject this tawdry tactic by putting an end to McDowell’s 27

years in office. Mr. McDowell, you owe both Michigan’s First District seniors and voters an apology,‖
