St Joseph’s claims Herald Sun ShieldGeelong’s St Joseph’s College has claimed the 2016 Division One Boys Herald Sun Shield over St Patrick’s College in a thriller at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.

Leading at every break, St Joseph’s’ hope of securing its second Herald Sun Shield title was in the hands of St Patrick’s, which had a kick after the siren to decide the champion.

Down by a point in the dying seconds of the match, St Patrick’s marked the ball inside 50 and lined up for a shot on goal to win the match and secure the school’s seventh consecutive Herald Sun Shield.

Unfortunately the fairy-tale nish was not to be for the St Patrick’s faithful, with the kick going out on the full to hand St Joseph’s its second Herald Sun Shield title in a decade.

Progressing through to the Grand Final after convincing semi-nal performances, the battle for the Division One title was always going to be a close one.

Running out onto the game’s biggest stage, St Joseph’s applied scoreboard pressure early with multiple inside-50 entries. Yet despite having eight scoring shots to three, the scoreboard was even at quarter time on 13 points apiece.

Accuracy in front of goal continued to plague the boys from Geelong in the second term, piling on 4.6 to open up a 17-point lead at the main break.

With the game in the balance, the reigning premiers stepped it up a gear in the second half to wrestle momentum back in Ballarat’s favour. St Patrick’s’ ball use and eciency in front of the big sticks proved fruitful in the third and nal terms, but it was too little too late. The nal score was 7.17 (59) to 8.10 (58).

St Joseph’s coach Chris Lynch said he was proud of his team for keeping to its structures and playing their brand of football until the very end.

“It was a pretty tense last quarter, that’s for sure,” Lynch said. “Our poor kicking kept St Patrick’s in the match and when they started to come back in the second half of the game they nearly took home the title, but we dug deep to ght it out.

“We felt we deserved to win the match and we were just really proud of the team to hold on and win the game. We set a goal at the start of the year to play a brand of football which would see us play on the MCG at the end of the year, so the fact that we were able to do that and get the win was extremely satisfying.”

Attention now turns to the Division One Girls Herald Sun Shield battle between reigning premier Methodist Ladies College and Ballarat Grammar.

With both schools tasting victory just once before, the pair will be hoping to become the equal-best girls’ school in the competition’s history when they meet in the decider later this month.

Top 3 on the lineBy Toe Punt

Just two home and away rounds of MPNFL Nepean Division football remaining for season 2016 and there’s still plenty of jostling to be done.Whilst the majority of today’s games should be relatively easy to predict, unlike last week, there is one game that sticks out like a beacon.Somerville hosts Red Hill at home and it should be a cracker. Both teams are locked on 40 points and in essence, this game is playing for the double chance. In the nal game of the season, Red Hill hosts Sorrento and Somerville travels to Crib Point to round out the season.Whilst both teams are locked together on 10 wins, Somerville’s percentage is 13 per cent better. The last time these two sides played was at Red Hill and the home side won by ve goals. The margin should have been greater given the Hillmen had 25 scoring shots to just 14.Red Hill kept Somerville to three goals from six scoring shots in the second half in Round 6 while it added 5.4.The Hillmen will again look to open-up Somerville with pace and quick ball movement, whilst ensuring that the Eagles can’t split them through the middle with quick transition.Red Hill plays to its strengths and it understands that it doesn’t have two 190cm key targets in attack. What it does have is a band of eet-footed midelders and ankers that run, carry, link-up and in more recent times, hit the scoreboard.Somerville’s big deciency was doing the simple things for long enough to stay in games when challenged. It tended to buckle when a side either got on top of them or simply couldn’t sustain pressure long periods.I saw that deciency fade a little last week against Hastings.Jedd Sutton, Tim McGennis and Adrian Speedy, all guns, didn’t really re last week, yet, they still won the match.

They have an extremely potent forward line. Rowe and Sedgewick provide the traditional leading and marking, Ben Crowe the brute strength and power, Shaw the hit up, Rolfe the mercurial and evasiveness and Steve Crowe the forward pressure. The defence is sound with McKenzie, Simpson and Farrelly getting the keys and the likes of Collie, and Westerman playing tall or small.I am concerned about the height and lack of leg speed in the Eagles’ back half. The midelds of both teams are strong. Rohan Hogenbirk provides the X-Factor for Somerville – the kid is a beast. Consistency is the key for him.I was impressed with the Eagles last week against Hastings. The Blues threw everything and more at them and they continued to respond.Even when it looked as though the Blues might overrun them in the last, they found a way to hang onto the footy, play the dead side and craft out another goal to seal the game.At home, the Eagles are going to be hard to beat, however, they will be sore. One thing we have all learned over the journey is never underestimate Red Hill.As I said from the outset, it’s going to be a ripper!Hastings will join either Red Hill or Somerville on 40 points if it can bounce back and beat Crib Point.I thought the Blues were superb last week. They fought to the very end and only a couple of costly mideld turnovers cost them. Their star Luke Hewitt was also down. His brother Jake at the other end of the ground was Hastings’ best.Crib Point had a rare win, which would have been good for the list and morale of the group. Also reward for all the hard workers o the eld. It’s just too important for the Blues to win, who are eying-o a top three nish.Dromana hosts Rosebud and we all know the Tigers are a better team at home.

9www.nepeanfnl.com.au

Bendigo Community BankHowever, they are playing a strong and experienced team and that’s something that the Tigers are not right now.Dromana will match the Buds with pace but until they add some size, will continue to fall short.Rosebud is the form team of the competition and like the others, needs to keep winning to nish top three.Pearcedale host Frankston Bombers and I’d like to say it is going to be a good game but that’s doubtful. The Panthers were disappointing last week and they go up a couple of divisions today.Frankston continues to y under the radar, notching-up win after win with its key players getting plenty of it.Great to see Brian O’Carroll really turn back the clock for long periods last week and the side is much better with the superstar that is Nathan Lonie in it.The Bombers know they need to keep pressing given the other top sides are all playing one another. In the nal game, Devon Meadows will be sure to notch another win against Tyabb. The Meadows were superb last week and got the chocolates and will be looking to win three of their past four matches.Tyabb has fallen away badly and was ordinary against Crib Point last week. In fact, the Yabbies have kicked just 10 goals in the past four matches while the opposition has booted 68.That’s back to 2015 and prior! The Yabbies simply need to have a couple of good weeks to nish o or its going to feel like another wasted season.

Club NotesSomerville EaglesToday marks our nal home game of the season. We are hoping for great weather so all our loyal supporters can watch the footy in comfort without that annoying wind and rain that seems to always happen on a Saturday. Today is also is our Villeins lunch so we are hoping for a full house to see the season out! We play Red Hill for a crucial game for all grades. Massive stakes for the 1s where we play for the double chance, for the reserves a win will seal a nals spot while the U19s can push up for a double chance if they can get over the line. Last Week saw the club get 3 from 3 with the U19s winning easy, reserves winning by 5 goals and the ones having a close encounter and getting home by 9 points. It was great to see a number of our U17s play in the U19s and all goes well for the future of the club if last Saturday was anything to go by. Reserves dropped the game against Hastings the rst time and with a few players back hopefully good things are ahead. The 1s was a cracker of a game and with Luke Rowe leading the way up forward with 6 goals and Hogey on the ball the boys were fantastic to get over the line. It was great to see young Liam Gruar make his senior debut. Last week was Ladies Lunch and it was great to see so many ladies get in the ‘swing’ of things. I am sure there was a few sore heads on Sunday morning. Go Eagles - Elwin Snr

Red Hill HillmenThis weeks notes come to you live from OneSixOne on Chapel Street. I’m lactose, fructose and glucose intolerant, and they’re out of toilet paper… A sensational return to TV for The Gilmore Girls who dominated Rye from the get go with the Demons rst quarter much like my night so far, scoreless. An absolute sausage fest for Marchetti and Higgins with 15 goals between them. When you think of intimidating sights -you think of the Twin Towers. Not those ones. They’re no longer standing. What was standing was the ominous sight of two 6ft4 prototypes taking the eld for The Rabble. With one having freshly abandoned an Opal and the other having successfully nished a career as Stone Cold in WWE 2k14, it was obvious who had succeeded and who hadn’t… Or was it? #SquadGoals. Unfortunately, the 2’s were handed their rst loss in 8 games. But with Bryce not playing, we had no one to blame it on… so we blamed Bryce for not playing. It was a slow start for the seniors going into ¼ time 27pts down, but the tide turned quicker than Danny Mongan at a Chicken Buet and a 9 goal 2nd term gave The Hillmen a 29pt lead at ½ time. And I’ve just realised Rye have someone called Millhouse. How unfortunate… Pancake Dal Lago and Donk McKinley were absolutely scrumptious with 3 each. Also interesting to note M Dal Lago has missed more games through injury than Harry Byrt this year… Yet no criticism???Auction Night – Tonight 7.00pm @ The Clubrooms. Jonathan Brown Luncheon – Wednesday 21st September.

Rosebud BudsCongratulations to our Captain Greg Bentley who plays his 100th senior game for the Club today! Today’s sojourn to our eastern neighbor Dromana is another step towards the Club’s march to 2016 success. A success built on a committed work ethic and team focus evident in our training numbers every night, fellowship in the clubrooms and on game day. In the pre-season the pundits surmised that the Club’s success in 2015 which saw all 3 teams competing in nals and culminated in a senior Premiership as a one-year wonder. All teams have gone a long way to counter this view, led by a group of, highly skilled and dedicated experienced players, and a committed group of champion junior players coming of age and all 3 teams will now play nals again. The last two weeks we have ended a nals campaign for both Rye & Sorrento – You beauty! The seniors made sure of Sorrento’s early season nish with an 8.5 third quarter. Taking care of business around the ground were Robbie B, Sean, Jack, Big Time, Davo, and Chris Z up forward Keegan and GB were decisive. The Development Squad got a reminder that there are 4 quarters, but snuck in just, Matty, Jamie, Captain Dan, Hotch, the Sleave and Flech played out the whole game to ensure the 4 points. The Unders struggled but Joel, Marcus, Jake, Jaycob, Adam and Bryce ew the ag. The Club also devoted the day to our Ladies of the club without whom we would fall apart and also support and fundraising for the Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation. Go Buds!

Hastings BluesToday we welcome Crib Point FNC in what should be another great contest for the Ron Moncrief Shield. The club would also like to welcome all our valued Business partners to today’s Presidents luncheon with special guest Mark Eustice. Last Saturday saw the club travel to Somerville in what was a superb game of local football with the eagles just getting over the line, our boys played a hard committed style but just didn’t get the apples. Today is going to be another great contest, we need to stay focused on the task ahead, this game like all games is very important as we approach years end, Good luck today boys. Our Reserve boys played a great brand of footy for most of the contest but just fell away at crucial times, but again showed great character to only go down by the smallest of margins, today you have to bring you’re A Game. Our Under 19s have been terric all year, you need to believe in yourselves and play with spirit and passion like you have all year boys, the club is right behind you. Don’t forget tonight is Jack Pot Joker with the jackpot going o tonight so make sure you get back into the club and Win $3,250 CASH.Sponsors of the week The Hastings Club, Roberts & Green Real Estate, La Lupa Pizza, V Lining, Transfuel Hastings, K & K Steel, Hastings Mowers. Frankston BombersLast Saturday night saw a strong Red & Black contingent enjoy a terric night celebrating the 50th year of our junior football partner, the Frankston rovers junior Football Club. For 50 years the Frankston Rovers program has given local juniors a great environment to learn & play our great game whilst they expand their skill set and progress through the age levels of junior football. As these boys mature into young men, the nal football polish is applied in the Bombers thirds and they become senior Bombers. The honour roll of Frankston Rovers juniors that have become Bomber legends is long & proud. From Martin Clarkson, who played in the rst Rovers junior team to our current Club Captain, the Rovers DNA is rmly entrenched in the Red & Black.A great number of our current playing list are graduates of the Frankston Rovers academy as well as many club greats who no longer grace the Greg Beck Oval. Colin Wood, Jason Zach, Jye Beattie, the O’Carroll’s, the Whites, Tony Blackford, Ben Hall, the Lonies, the Wells family, the Cameron’s, John Coleman, Beatles & Phil Elliott are all great parts of the Rovers/Bombers story. We wish the Rovers teams well in their nals campaigns and if you have the time to go and support the boys, they would appreciate that greatly. Congratulations & thanks to Darren Wishart & Dean Stapleton on putting together a stunning function and being great hosts. Go Bombers.

Tyabb YabbiesSeniors: The Round 15 Bus is stopping at Devon Meadows today as the ones are still looking for that elusive 4 points. It is great to see the Under 19s and Development Squad playing some consistent footy at the moment and getting some good results. If the Senior’s reect back to the games that we were up to our necks earlier in the year, everyone was playing their role. Looking forward to next week – last round is Sponsor’s Round. There will be a fair bit happening with the Auskickers Presentation and half time game as well.Reserves: After coming o a great win the week before,it was going to be interesting to see how the guys would come out this week. Would the hunger still be there, was the win the turning point? With 3 of our better players from the week before and a couple of 3rd players doubling up to help,it would have been expected that the performance would drop of but that certainly was not the case. A great start to the game with a classy goal from Jay Jay and ferocious tackling from all the players saw us take a 2 goal lead into half time. The blustery wind was making it hard for both teams to score and the third quarter was an arm wrestle until Cribby goaled after the siren to bring the margin back to one goal. It was all set for a big last quarter and it didn’;t disappoint.- Crib Point leading until the nal seconds until Under 19 Chris Harris kicked the winning goal to make it two wins in a row. A gutsy eort from everyone and another heart stopper for the supporters.

We Have Skills…Allegedly…Skills – something a lot of people claim to have but are clearly mistaken. Dierent between normal people and umpires – there is at least a remote possibility that a normal person has a skill. Umpires have absolutely no chance. Yes, please note that we are not including umpires in the realm of normal people.Well at least that’s what we all thought. But delve a little deeper and you’ll realise that eld umpires at least have one skill. Just one, but at least it’s one. Ask an umpire to bounce next time you decide to be charitable and chin wag with one. Even if it going 15 me-tres to their left and only one foot o the ground it still classies as a bounce and therefore…the umpire has a skill. The Bounce was introduced to league football all the way back in 1887. Initially just to start each quarter it only took 4 short years for eld umpires to be smacking the ball into the turf at every opportunity. And with a much poorer quality of grounds at the time they’d make spe-cialists in today’s game. An absolute bucket load of things then happened in the following 122 years; Coca-Cola produced its rst bottle, the rst modern Olympic Games in Athens, the Common-wealth of Australia was created (long overdue), Mr Booth invented the vacuum cleaner resulting in more reports of missing marbles than ever before, Crayola introduced crayons (at the cost of white walls all the world over), Hitler suered little man syndrome, a couple of guys took a quick holiday to the moon, the Wiggles succeeded in their attempt for World rule and a few other things oc-curred that are too deep for article. But all the while eld umpires continued to totter over to a pack, kindly re-quest access to the football and slam the footy into the deck hoping for just enough height to clear the hands of the 145cm ruckman who were enjoying a quiet chinwag while the poor umpire was looking down.122 years is a damn long time for the system to stay the same (unfortunately football reverted back to its original setup in 2013 and umpires only had 4 opportunities a game to show o their real skill). These days a rule strug-gles to last 12 months before someone nds an issue. Of course there’s been some changes in technique. Think back to the 1920s and 30s when the silly bugger would swing the ball single-handedly into the turf reminiscent of a Shaun Tait re bolt. Later on they even squatted and punched the ball into the ground. Naturally it didn’t work at all. Must’ve been wearing iron sts too.One day the bounce may be no more. And then we’ll evoke memories of the days when an umpire would break their own nose or send our oddly shaped ball into

oblivion hoping not to send it through the goals and bounce the winning score. But most of all, we’ll remem-ber the times when there was a lighter side to umpiring and the thing that allowed us our genuine 10 seconds of fame.Long live the bounce…SUA Mini OlympicsWith the Rio Olympics just around the corner and the facilities still struggling, sporting ocials could consider an eleventh hour adjustment to schedule and bring the 2016 Olympics down to the pristine facilities of Carlisle Park in Cranbourne North. Why you may ask would such a ludicrous idea be suggested by such intelligent soles? Well…Carlisle Park is the site of what many consider to be the “real” 2016 Olympics anyway…the SUA Mini Olym-pics. Pitting the Seaford crew against those extra from Foun-tain Gate, there promises to be high levels of intensity and passion as the two bases play o for the bragging rights and the trophy of Inaugural SUA Mini Olympic Champions. On Monday August 8th (this week) at 6pm get down to Carlisle Park in Cranbourne North to test the mettle of your training base and discipline group and prove once and for all who reigns supreme.Seaford or Fountain Gate? Fountain Gate or Seaford? Who will win? Disclaimer: The writer of this article does not apologise to any Fountain Gate umpire who leaves the venue in tears of despair once Seaford clinch an outright domi-nant victory.Stay in Touch Stay in touch with all information about Southern Um-pires Association (SUA) by following or adding us on social media. Bendigo Community Bank Stingrays“JETS NO MATCH FOR POISONOUS STINGRAYS”ROUND 15 MATCH REPORT - BY MITCH BROWNThe Dandenong Southern Stingrays endured swirling winds and a host of injuries to come home with a com-fortable 62-point win over the Western Jets on Saturday, 17.17 (119) to 8.9 (57).The Stingrays were menacing from the get-go and, save for a couple of momentary lapses in the second quarter, controlled the match all day, never allowing the Jets to get a sni.Dandenong benetted from a wide spread of goalkick-ers, with Tom Jok, Sam Fowler, Tom Murphy, Chad Harris and rst-gamer Jacob Boyle all managing a pair of majors each, with seven other Stingrays also slotting goals.Fowler and Harris were the pick of the forwards, with both applying signicant pressure across the half-for-wards to force the Western defence into making errors. Tom Murphy also had a great day out, playing as the pri-mary lead-up key forward and clearly relishing the op-portunity.Through the middle, Myles Poholke showed o more of the terric form that this week earned him an invite to the NAB AFL draft combine, with brilliant support from the likes of Nathan Scagliarini, Lachlan Gill-Renouf and Tommy Glen.Down back, however, was where the Stingrays really shone. Hunter Clark gave his best performance of the year across the back anks, while Matthew LaFontaine’s move into defence continued to be one of the master-strokes of the year. And after a best-on-ground perfor-mance last week, Mason DeWit would have undoubtedly put his hand up for back-to-back honours with another gritty performance from centre half-back.The only negative from the day is the toll it may have had on a couple of its key players. Tom DeKoning sustained a thumb injury in the third term, did not return to the eld and was sent to have scans.Hunter Clark was also managed throughout the nal stages of the game as a precaution after some soreness late in the match. But injury aside, stand-in coach Nathan Harris (who this week took the reigns to further develop his coaching skills) was pleased with the nal result.“In tricky conditions, like today with the wind blowing to one end, it was always going to be a challenge.“The Jets came at us, particularly in the second quarter. And so it was good to see how they responded – our sec-ond half, I thought, was fantastic.“We outscored them and we outworked them.”That was the theme for most of the day – the Rays burst out of the blocks early, with a 7-goal rst quarter to set the tone of the day.The Jets were made to look second-rate as the Stingrays swarmed the footy and benetted from cleaner disposal and better decision-making.

Debutant Jacob Boyle won’t for-get the rst term for a while, booting his rst TAC Cup goal with his rst TAC Cup kick – even the Rays’ defend-ers scurried down to the forward line to rue his hair in congratulations. But to their credit, the Jets refused to give in. A majority of the second quarter was played on their terms, while a couple of the Stingrays could have been accused of tak-ing their foot o the accelerator marginally. That couldn’t be said about Dylan Atkins or Luke Paynter, however – both were escorted from the eld with blood pouring from their noses after hard attacks on the footy. It was eorts like those that ensured a 27-point lead at the main break. After half-time, the Stingrays lifted their game up an-other gear, leaving the Jets in their wake. Western simply couldn’t keep up with the ferocious Rays, who gave their opponents no mercy.By the time the nal siren rang, Dandenong had kicked away to a 62-point win – another timely reminder that the Stingrays are the genuine 2016 premiership threat. They will now enjoy a week o for a TAC Cup general bye, with the penultimate game of their home-and-away sea-son against the Murray Bushrangers on Saturday August 13 from Shepley Oval at 2pm.“These next two games are really important for us, for our nals preparation,” Harris admitted.“The wheels are in motion, we’ve been training hard, the boys have been doing their conditioning work, so we know that they’re going to run out games really well come nals time.”Dandenong Stingrays 7.5-47 9.8-62 13.15-93 17.17-119Western Jets 1.2-8 5.6-36 6.8-44 8.9-57Goal Kickers: Tom Murphy 2, Jacob Boyle 2, Sam Fowler 2, Chad Harris 2, Tom Jok 2, Tom Glen, Max Kleverkamp, Nathan Scagliarini, Hunter Clark, Kirk Dickson, Myles Po-holke, Dylan AtkinsBest Players: Mason DeWit, Hunter Clark, Chad Harris, Sam Fowler, Matthew La Fontaine, Myles Poholke

Bendigo Community BankNetball Preview Nepean FNL – Round 15 2016

Big week last week in the netball circle of the Nepean FNL. Cracking game between Crib Point and Tyabb resulted in a draw, and shows you

there is not much separating those top two teams. Both should perform in nals and would be the tip to be the grand nal match. But in saying that you never know in nals as the pressure can get to some teams. Let’s have a look into the second last week of the home and away season as there are some pivotal games being played this weekend.

Dromana v Rosebud

The ladies from tiger land are certainly ying at the moment. Dromana has been smashing down the door of the top 4 over the past few weeks and it looks like they will give themselves every chance to play nals this year. Rosebud has had an up and down season and jumped back on the winners list last week against Sorrento. It’s going a great local derby but Dromana with a bit more on the line will take this one out.

Somerville v Red Hill

Somerville should be refreshed and ready to go this week, and they will need to be as they take on Red Hill. Somerville have excelled in the second half of the year and should play nals this year. Red Hill like Dromana and Devon Meadows are all challenging for that nal spot in the nal four. If Red Hill win today it will open the door to many possibilities for nals.

Devon Meadows v Tyabb

Devon Meadows had a fantastic win over Pearcedale last week and will need to continue with their winning ways against Tyabb in round 15. The Yabbies drew with ladder leaders Crib Point in a competitive match, and they will be disappointed that they couldn’t inict the Magpies rst loss of 2016. Devon Meadows will need to bring their A game against Tyabb this week to keep their nals chances alive.

Pearcedale v Frankston

Last time these two met it was Easter and Frankston went down by 1 goal to Pearcedale. As they year has panned out neither side has been able to move onto greater feats but this match will be Frankston’s last for season 2016 as next week will be a Bye. The Bombshells would love nothing more than to nish their season on a win. Pearcedale has only the 4 wins for the season and should make it 5 by the end of Saturday.

Netball NotesFrankston BombshellsThe day started out full of promise with sunshine and winning but unfortunately we ended up getting stuck in Baxter’s parks mud. The bell ringing for 6 out of 6, again just out of reach…C grade took form from their amazing sports illustrated pregame photoshoot into a stunning display of cohesive netball. Leading at each quarter and showing the skill we all know they have. Captain courageous George able to swap from WD, WA and GK and at each change surpassing her own brilliance. Such a team eort exemplifying that in teamwork bullets can only go through so many bodies. B grade started like they woke awkwardly from a nap – hoping to feel rejuvenated but instead were confused and disorientated not knowing what day, time or year it was. A bit of a pep up and redbull and they converted a 5 goal half time lead into a 20 goal victory. With Tahlzy getting more intercepts than an ocial at border patrol after the Russian athletes go through security. A grade were having a day they would rather forget when they clocked in at 1.30pm feeling like they played for an hour but then found out it was only 1.42pm. It was a trying day, but our BOC Gracey was awesome despite having a coupla’ vino’s in the yarra valley at lunch – just kidding but imagine how good she’ll be without playing that extra hour before A grade. Today lets go down the road and try to collect some wins from Pearcedale. Go Bomber

Dromana TigersWith only 2 rounds to go things are getting very interesting and positioning on the ladder is still up for grabs.....Luckily U17’s don’t have to rely on nal rounds to make it they are there ... Finals for them which is very exciting for the Club this bunch of girls have come so far but there is still a way to go today’s game 1st V 2nd on the ladder will be a great match... B and C Grades continued to ght last week but couldn’t quite get over Frankston..C Awards went to Belinda Ingram and Sarah Nisbet B Awards to Rivvy Walter and Hayley PollardA Grade needs to win all remaining games to have any chance of making nals and had a great win over Frankston last week. Awards went to Lucy Ness and Clarry..This week we also get to celebrate Sheldon Williams 100 games such an achievement. Sheldon started with the club as a 15 yr old and has also been an umpire for the club. Sheldon is one of those players that you can put anywhere on the court and she will excel, her height is an advantage and the way she can read the play...Well done Sis on making this milestone xxToday we take on Rosebud again a few players down Due to the big wedding Congrats Georgie and Cam Come on girls Final are in our reach Go Tigers

Red Hill HillsA convincing win for the A graders against Rye was well deserved after a great team performance. The girls found their rhythm and were moving the ball down the court with speed and skill, showing just how much they have meshed over the season. It will be a tough match against Somerville next weekend hopefully resulting in another win.By far one of the best games the B grade side has played this season. It seemed that all the training and hard work was paying o in a big way on the court. The girls played with a disciplined and dynamic style which was fantastic to watch. They won the match and are hoping to back their performance up next weekend with another win.The C grade came in strong to this weeks game against Rye .A rough game that was even until the last quarter. Strong, fast and precise through the mid court we were able to gain a lead on Rye by the end of the game. Our defenders working until the siren as their shooters were tall and t . Our Redhill girls worked until the end to gain a well deserved win.U/17s again gave a dynamic performance last week with a comfortable win over Rye. They showed with team work & determination they can achieve. Keep this up & look out nals here they come. Thank to Lisa for her help over the last few weeks.

Bendigo Community Bank Netball NotesHastings BluesB and C grades faced very strong Somerville sides. They were both very strong defensively and proved too big a challenge for both C and B grades. C grade improved their result from the rst time we played them which was our goal heading into the match. However too many mistakes cost us the opportunity to close the score line. Courtney Astbury, Lauren Kerr and Monique Boer were great in defence giving our team plenty of opportunity to score.Unfortunately in B grade we lost Amy Goodacre early in the match due to injury which made our day even harder. We hope it’s a speedy recovery for her. After the injury we needed to steady and just play out the game as best we could.Whilst the score line told its own story, we were able to see where usually we would have given up, we played the game out strongly indicating our progress from the beginning of the season. We will need every bit of determination this week when we meet Crib Point on our home court.

Crib Point MagpiesIn what was the best way to sum up our U/17’s season... They won! A great team eort showing how much they have learnt this year as they got an early jump on Tyabb and held on by 2 goals! Best on could have gone to all of the girls but Chloe wins the award due to her listening to everything her coach asked of her and completing each task well! Great job girls! You should all be very proud! C grade got back on the winners list with a strong win against Tyabb! As teams are pushing for nals a win was needed by both teams but our girls got their momentum back and fought hard! The girls are a strong unit and it was a solid team eort from defense to attack! Elly’s talk around the ring was benecial to the goalers and Molly’s dedication for the ball was amazing! It was a must win game for B grade needing a win to keep their nals chances alive however they fell short

against a very strong Tyabb! The girls rallied hard all day and gave it their everything! Tahlia even got mad! Season’s not over yet though!A grade played what was the game of the season! Two top teams battling it out! After falling behind at quarter time by 6, an amazing comeback in the second quarter to tie it up making it goal for goal for the rest of the game! A nal result of a draw was an amazing team eort! Defence end was incredible and never giving up! Karly was amazing attacking a defensively! Grand nal preview? This week we take on Hastings! Lets nish o the season strong with a win!

Bendigo Community BankRosebud BudsA-Grade - Rainbow’s everywhere a fantastic eort made by the whole club. ‘Twas a slow start but with Kate cheering the girls on we picked up and played well. We ran with 7 and they held up well. Best on Darci Harris & Lauren Robinson. B-Grade - A solid performance, nally putting together everything we have worked on during the season into one game and coming away with a good win. The ball ow down the court and the positivity of the girls throughout the game was exceptional. Best on went to Megan Berry & Amy Krieger.C-Grade - It was a special day for all at our Club. We hosted an awareness day for Bec’s sister who is involved with Zaidees Rainbow Foundation raising awareness for organ & tissue donation. Kate was there all day supporting the girls (her old team mates) and it was an honour to be part of it. Best on was Bec who was running on adrenaline and Ali R who gives her all each week. Under 17s - What an intense match that was! Goal for goal the entire game made it a tough ght for our girls. Amazing defence this week again by Hollie and Shannon. Hopefully our percentage keeps us on top of the ladder. Best on - Shannon & Hollie. All teams thank Sorrento for cooperating in starting each game 1 hour early to accommodate our Ladies Day & Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation fundraiser and for playing the games in good spirit, our supporters and a special thank you to Bec for all her hard work and to Kate and Alan, Zaidees Dad, for attending the games.

Devon Meadows PanthersThe meadows had a positive day on the track with all Netball & Football sides getting the win and taking home the Panther Cup in a panther showdown against Pearcedale.A grade had three very consistent quarters. The girls worked very well as a team and came home ring in the last quarter. We need to consolidate and keep the momentum owing into this week and continue to play our game despite the pressure. BOC Em Van Rooye.B grade played very well despite the windy conditions. Defensively they rose to the occasion and the pressure down the court was immense. BOC Jess Gracan.C grade continued their winning streak with a solid performance. They took a while to get the momentum owing but extended their lead and played with patience in the second half. BOC Sharon Balas.Today we look forward to our next challenge in Tyabb and we know that they will be 4 very competitive games across all grades. Let your hard work & eort at training play out on the court today. Teamwork will be our inspiration for all teams today - Teamwork divides the task and multiplies the success.

Tyabb YabbiesCommon sense has prevailed & B-Grade are back to full strength with their premiership points being returned. It was an anxious 3 week wait for the Yabbies as the ght went to Netball Victoria & the MPNFL commission. Hopefully our stress & willingness to ght for the welfare of our under aged players will see adjustments made to the rules so that they reect the policies written & enforced by Netball Australia. Our U/17s were disappointed with their output, however were pleased for the Crib Point girls gaining their rst win. Well done to Jane for making such great progress with the girls across the season. C grade had one of those matches where things weren’t working in their favour. Defensively we were too slow to respond to the Cribby’s goalers & didn’t make the most of the opportunities that did arise. The girls can still make nals but today would be do or die.Last time we met Crib Point in B-Grade they questioned our integrity, needing to play 3 A grade veterans due to 10 players being absent across A&B grade. Interestingly, the score line did not change from round one & reects the great consistency we have across our B Grade squad. A grade was an entertaining match with both teams displaying exceptional netball. Tyabb were able to get a number of goals up due to H & Steph’s intensity & hard work in attack. A slump in the 3rd saw Crib peck away at our lead & manage to ght back to secure a draw. A great outcome for both teams as we near nals.NIP! NIP!

Somerville EaglesLast round we took on Hastings at home. The C girls, for the rst time in a long time, had 10 players ready to go! With slippery courts they did play it a bit safe but had fantastic passages of play and hard ghts for the ball. The defence end had hands over pressure. The mid court moved the ball easily down the court and into the circle and the goalers shot well and fought hard for rebounds. Overall they had a great game and came away with a win. The B girls came out determined to show improvement from when they last played Hastings. With 10 players it was great to see everyone slot into their positions and adjust to changes on the court. It was a great team eort and a well deserved win. The A girls had a week o rest and are reading to come out ring against Red Hill this round. We look forward to 3 tough games! GO EAGLES!!
