The Year 1 and 2 students are learning about Amazing Animals. Tyler taught Miss Challman’s class all about Turtles.

“They only grow to the size of a normal fish tank. My turtle is 3 years old. It is slowly growing. I named them Charlie and Harry.” Aaliyah taught the grade all about Reptiles. “My favourite reptiles are snakes, turtles and crocodiles.” “I love snakes because they have no legs and because they have nice silky skin.”

We love learning about amazing animals!

In Art, so far, we have drawn lop sided Picasso faces. We saturated their faces with colour then made city light posters with billboards and fire works. We love Art it is AWESOME!! By Amali Mackenzie

When we have spare Art time sometimes we have drawing. In drawing, I have tried really hard to copy the cover of Fred and Finn. I drew it first and coloured it in and it looked great By Riley Southerland

Citizenship Award

‘About You’ Survey! What is ‘About You’? ‘About You’ is a survey of Victoria’s young people, conducted by Colmar Brunton on behalf of the Department of Education and Training. The About You survey takes place in Victorian schools every two years and collects essential information on the health, wellbeing, learning and safety of young people aged 10 to 18. Government schools with students in Year 5, 7, 8, 10 and 11 are being invited to participate in the survey in 2018. Students in Catholic and Independent schools are also being invited to take part. The information collected will assist in the development of programs, resources and services aimed at meeting the needs of young Victorians.

Who will participate? One or two classes of Year 5 students, and all students in Year 7, 8, 10 and 11 will be invited to participate in the survey from our school. It is up to you and your child as to whether they take part. The school will send an information letter explaining the background and content of the survey, along with a refusal-of-consent form home with your child, and to your email address. If you do not want your child to be included in the study, you should return the refusal-of-consent form to the school, or opt out via the email address that will be supplied. All responses are voluntary and students can opt out at any time. For further information, please contact Gillian Davenport at the

Department of Education and Training via email

Year 7 Information Booklets Thank you to all of those families who attended the Year 7 Information Evening last Monday night. Year 6 B have been very busy reading and writing poetry... We have learnt all about Limerick, Haiku, Free Verse, Sonnet and Ballad poetry. We are working towards creating a Poetry Anthology which we will publish on the iPad app "Book Creator". In maths we have been learning about data and graphing and just finished a project on this. Many of the students produced outstanding work, showcasing their understanding. Our classroom reading lounge room has been transformed into a green screen area and many of the students have playing around with a new green screen App to become experts. We are looking forward to creating and producing Information Report with this program.

Warby Ranges Bushwalk The Year 8 Outdoor Education class spent Tuesday 14th August bushwalking through the Sunrise Walking Track Complex at Warby

Ranges. The students put their newly learnt skills of navigation and map reading to the test,

easily navigating their way through the multiple walking

loops. The weather stayed clear for the

day allowing the students to enjoy

playing many games of Camouflage throughout the day.

Barkly Campus Assistant Principals Report

I would like to thank all the parents and students that attended the parent/teacher interviews last Thursday and Friday. It was great to witness students, parents and teachers working together to discuss ways of improving student outcomes.

On Wednesday August 22nd, we are holding our Course selection day at the Faithfull Campus where students and parents will come in to their appointment and establish their course for 2019. This is a great opportunity for students and parents to get all the information they need to make an informed choice of subjects for next year. Please make use of this day.

On Wednesday 1st August, the Year 11 and 12 VET Sport and recreation classes from Benalla P-12 College set off to the top of Mt Hotham for a three day snowboarding trip. On the trip were 38 students and 7 staff. The entire trip was organised by the Year 12 Sport & Rec class as part of their course work requirements. The class did an outstanding job of ordering all food for the camp, gathering all students details in order to book lift, lesson and hire of equipment, arranging ability groups, sleeping dorms, cooking & cleaning rosters and the rules and regulations for the camp. We stayed in the Jalanga lodge on top of Mt Hotham for three days

(which meant no painful bus trips up and down the mountain each

day). On arrival, we found the weather to be perfect. The sun was

out, no wind and fresh snow everywhere for the majority of the

three days. Each day students had a one and a half hour lesson in the

morning and then split up into their ability groups to board around

the mountain. All students made sure they got their money’s worth,

boarding whenever they had the chance from the moment the lifts

were open to the moment they closed. It was an amazing time and

an incredible experience for all students which created life long

memories and friendships.

It was a wet and chilly Wednesday morning when our Senior Girls Netball team went to represent Southern Ranges and our College at the Hume Region Netball finals. For some, this will be their last time playing Netball for the school. They were scheduled to play three matches for the day against Galen College, Sacred Heart Yarrawonga and Catholic College Wodonga. Most of the girls were thankful for the opportunity to play netball and have a fun enjoyable day until that first whistle, first centre pass then white line fever hit as it then became really competitive. The girls started the day with a win and finished up with two loses. Each game it took the girls a few minutes to settle into the pace and style of the other schools. Once the girls started to control and move towards the ball it made it easier to transition from one end to the other, giving our shooters better opportunities to score. Each girl played the role that coach Pip O’Donoghue gave them and responded well to the feedback that was given. There were so many highlights throughout the day with Alex Robinson and Britt Button always fighting for front position or a tip of the ball down in defence. Georgie Uebergang and Kate O’Donoghue always looked dangerous as the ball came in. Chloe Cook, Shae Skelton and Taylah Grubissa provided great support through the centre. Overall it was great to start the day with a win and the girls left their run too late in the last game. They continued to be competitive throughout the day and demonstrated great sportsmanship to other schools and the umpires. Well done on an enjoyable day.

Mr Thomas – Sports Coordinator
