Hello People!
It’s the final countdown! We are days away from our biggest fundraiser of the year! It takes a lot of planning and organizing to prepare 400 dinners, fill lots of baskets to raffle off, set up and take down tables and chairs, and get donations. We want to thank all the seniors who donate their time, money and energy towards this big event! We could not pull it off without everyone’s help.
Our center is very unique. Our seniors are willing to pitch in and help as needed. There are many generous seniors as well as local businesses that support us financially. We have a board of 9 members who oversee the center and it’s finances, the city of Bellevue who maintains our building, and ENOA who supports our meal program (and our paychecks ).
Let’s work hard the next few weeks to have the biggest fundraiser yet! Then on October 13th, we can enjoy a delicious meal, raffle of some baskets and toast each other for a job well done!
Cheers!Kathy and Dawn

Eat, Drink and be Scary! If you want a really “ghoul” time, come to our Halloween Costume Party! It’s sure to be “Fab-BOO-lous” ! There will be lots of yummy treats to sink your fangs into. Come sit for a spell on Tuesday, October 31st at 10:00 am. Wear your costume – there will be prizes.
Vampires aren’t the only ones interested in your blood….The Methodist students will be back on Wednesday, October 11th at 10:00 am to take blood pressures. At 11:00 am, they will do a special presentation.
Get your blood pumping! Linda from
Interim Health will be discussing pulmonary issues. Be sure to bring all you questions and concerns for her to address. She will be here on Wednesday, October 18th at 11:15 am.
Hot Cakes, Flap Jacks, Short Stack Tall Stack! No matter how you flip them or stack them, you can’t go wrong with pancakes for breakfast! Join us on Tuesday, October 24th
at 9:00 am for this delicious breakfast!
Check it Out!! Through a very generous donation, we were able to purchase a new oven for our center! It has a 6 burner gas range with a griddle! Now we can make pancakes or grill sandwiches! We also purchased a convection oven so we cook even more party snacks at a time and accommodate our growing crowd for Thursday night dinners. You will also notice a new pool table! The city of Bellevue replaced the worn carpet and tiled the pool room. Stop by and check out the new look!
What Makes Olga Run? Come listen to
Julie Sebastian speak about the woman who inspired this true life book about Olga Kotelko. The book explores what the wild success of a ninety-four-year-old track star can tell us about how our bodies and minds age. She will be here on Thursday, October 26th at 11:15 am.
Take (a Music) Note Our very own
Bellevue singers will be performing on Saturday, October 7th at 10:30 am at Bellevue West High School as part of the Intergenerational Choir. Children and Seniors will be preforming together!
Don’t be a “Sour-Kraut”! If you want to have a Beer-y good time, sign up today for our Oktoberfest Party! All your favorite German snacks will be provided, along with entertainment by Wayne Miller! Das Boot will kick off the party on Friday, October 20th at 10:00 am.
Cancellations We understand that life
happens – you wake up sick, need to help a neighbor, babysit the grandkids… However our number of lunch and dinner cancels have been growing – up to an average of 7%. With a total of 792 cancelations last year, that is a total loss of $2890.00 at our center! Overall for ENOA, last year’s cancels cost $18,851.00. Let us know if you need to cancel before we call in your meal.

Here’s to our
October Birthdays! Enjoy your special
day!
Calcutta Winner – Our August winner for our 50-50 drawing was Marlene Head! She won a
whopping $278.00! She donated $40.00 back to the center, giving the center a total of $318.00. Thank you everyone who played.
Feeling Lucky? If so, then hop on the bus to Winna Vegas in Sloan, IA. We will get an early
start, leaving the center at 8:30 am on Wednesday, October 25th. The bus trip is $5.00 - how much you spend is up to you! Every Wednesday is Senior Day so they will have special promotions all day. Don’t forget to stop and have a bite to eat while there. We will head back to center around 2:15.
Lions & Tigers & Bears – Oh My! Consistently ranked one of the world’s best zoos, Omaha’s
Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is the ultimate interactive zoo experience. Let’s see what everyone has been roaring about! Our trip is scheduled for Tuesday, October 17th at 10:30 am. You can bring your lunch along or eat at the zoo’s restaurant. We will leave the zoo around 2:30 pm. Please dress accordingly for the weather and walking. The cost is $5.00 for the bus (pay here) and $16.95 admission at the zoo.
Parking Problems. There is sign in the alley stating that you can not park in the city bus loading
zone. Due to the numerous occasions people have been blocking the loading zone for the city bus, they will be monitoring the alley and issuing tickets. As far as street parking, please try to park a bit closer to allow more cars to park. Often cars have gaps of 8-10 feet between them. By parking closer., we can fit more cars on the curb, closer to the center.

3. Encourage your family, friends and neighbors to come to dinner.4. Buy raffle tickets.
5. Check with us if we still need croutons, dressing or anything else for dinner.6. Sell Raffle tickets to your friends and family. 7. Put together a themed basket for the raffle.

Did you know…..
That all the money raised at the fundraiser stays at our center? We are very fortunate there is federal funding for our lunch and dinner program. However, there is a lot of maintenance and cost on a day to day basis to run the center. Our cal-cutta,
booster memberships and fundraiser money helps support in many ways:All the extras for meals- butter, olive oil, parsley, cherries, ice cream etc.

Over the past few years, the Bellevue Senior Community Center has experienced tremendous growth. As wecontinue to grow, we are always looking for new ways to improve the center. We strive to add activities andevents, provide services to our area seniors, and give the seniors who attend our center a chance to get involvedand give back; all the while keeping the senior center’s costs and overhead low. Continuing to grow while facedwith today’s economy is not always an easy task.
Because of our growth, the Bellevue Senior Community Center has created another opportunity for seniors andothers to support us, The Bellevue Senior Community Center Booster Club. The Booster Club is a 100%voluntary club that supports the efforts of the center. The cost to belong to the Booster Club is only $24.00 peryear. We pro-rate the cost if you sign up now. If mailing starts in November it will be $16.00. It will be validfrom November 2017 to June 30, 2018.
