Conference Overview

Explore. Engage. Empower. Our conference theme “Explore. Engage. Empower.” emerged on a conference call with women engineers sharing their visions for the conference. While the theme is present in all conference activities, we will also be integrating collaborative activities throughout the conference to ensure opportunities for exploration and engagement that lead to participants feeling more empowered when the conference ends.

Reception & Underground Tour of Seattle

Friday evening there will be a reception to welcome conference participants to Seattle. After refreshments, participants are invited to attend an Underground Tour of Seattle. More details on the Underground Tour are found on their website: http://www.undergroundtour.com/index.html. We are looking for sponsors for both the reception and the underground tour component of Friday evening.

On Thursday and Friday, tours will be available for participants who are able to spend a longer time in Seattle. Potential technical tours include the Boeing Company, Microsoft, Bremerton Naval Base, Seattle Tunnel Project; and the Ballard Locks. Potential sightseeing tours include the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, the Washington State Ferry, Seattle Art Museum, Seattle Aquarium, Theo’s Chocolate, and tastings at local wineries, breweries and distilleries. Professional Development and Technical Sessions

The conference will include several sessions on technical and professional development topics. Potential tracks include: Career and Life Transitions; Inclusion and Cultural Awareness; Management and Strategy; Outreach; Career Path Exploration; Personal Development (e.g., work-life balance); SWE Development; Collegiate; Academic (target graduate students and faculty); and technical tracks. Potential speakers will submit abstracts by the end of September and be selected based on speaker competency on topic and how well the topic aligns with our conference tracks and theme. We need sponsors to cover room fees and printing costs.

Career Fair

A cornerstone event of the conference will be the Career Fair. Both collegiate and professional members attend in the search for a company that aligns with their skills and ideals. Collegiate members are looking for internships and entry-level jobs. More experienced engineers are looking for employment, either after taking a brief break from industry or eager to begin the next step in their engineering journey. The Career Fair will be held all day on Saturday, February 20th in the Elliott Room of the Bell Harbor Conference Center. Career Fair booths (singles and doubles) and interview booths are available for sponsors. The Elliott Room can hold 50 to 100 booths depending on the size of the booths. In addition, the facility has a variety of small rooms that will be used as interview booths, some of which are sound proof.

Keynote Meals

There will be three keynote meals on Saturday, February 20th: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Each region will select a keynote speaker to provide a diversity of topics. Nominations for Keynote speakers may be submitted online through the conference’s website.

Region Meetings

On Sunday, each region will hold a meeting to discuss on-going activities in their region and plan for the future year. To allow for active engagement, we plan to feed the stomachs as well as the minds of our participating members. Therefore, we are looking for sponsors to support breakfast on Sunday, February 21st.

Sponsorship Opportunities

Reasons to Sponsor

1) Leadership Begins with You!

Over the last half century, SWE has made great strides in attracting women of all ages to the incredible opportunities an engineering career path can provide. We are proud of our success and equally grateful for the sponsors and partners who have made our progress possible. While we have come a long way, there is still much work to do.

2) Growing Challenge

Universities have seen only slight growth in the numbers of women entering and graduating from engineering programs in comparison to law and medical programs. Our goal is to increase the number of women graduating with engineering degrees from 18% to 30% by 2020. Regional conferences provide students opportunities to network with professionals and prepare for the workforce while living within their student budgets. Students are often amazed by the number of women engineers, employment opportunities and enthusiasm of members observed at SWE conferences.

3) Build. Nurture. Celebrate.

As a sponsor or partner, you can help support critical programs that build and nurture interest in engineering careers among students and young professionals. SWE also funds many initiatives that help women advance and succeed in engineering and champions the life-changing contributions women engineers make in our society.

4) Experience the Best of the West

As a career fair sponsor, you will have access to some of the brightest, most motivated job candidates in the Western United States. All donations are tax-deductible. A letter with our non-profit tax ID will be provided to all sponsors.

Summary To close, we need your help to execute a conference that allows us to accomplish our goal and conference theme. With your generosity we can allow women engineers, both current and aspiring, to explore the many opportunities that the field provides, to engage with others in the engineering community (sponsors, colleagues, and engineers of the future) and to learn the skills they need to feel empowered in their careers. For those sponsors, who already donate to SWE, we thank you and hope you can support this local conference as well. For those who have not been involved with SWE, this is a great opportunity to start. Thank you for your consideration! The conference website (http://abjconference.swe.org/) lists additional information on conference events. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Colleen Bronner at [email protected].
