D F ,

Peace and all Good! Usually in the Gospels, we do not receive much biograph-ical material about the apostles, but today we get a lovely glimpse of Andrew, disciple of John the Bap st, about to make a historic change of allegiance to follow Jesus. Per-haps Andrew’s most significant accomplishment was to know whom to follow. He runs to his brother Peter to tell him “we have found the Messiah!” And so, Andrew became known as the one who “introduces” Jesus to oth-ers. You recall that it was Andrew who brought the child with the loaves and fishes to meet Jesus. This is a beau -ful characteris c of Andrew—to introduce the Lord to others. We might ask ourselves how we do this in our lives?

Last Sunday on Epiphany, we drew our parish celebra-on of Christmas to deligh ul close at our Epiphany Party

in St. Francis Hall. Several hundred parishioners came to the gathering. What a fun me it was! We sang Christ-mas Carols, shared in some delicious food and even had a surprise visit from the “The Three Kings” who gave cuddly plush animal gi s to the children in a endance. Howev-er, the funniest thing was that we forgot to put candy in the piñata! Hee! Hee! The children had a good me any-way. I wish to thank Claudia LaBarge and her team of dedicated helpers for making this wonderful a ernoon so beau ful for all us!

In closing, I had hoped to send out individual thank you notes to those who gave us Christmas gi s, goodies and sent Christmas gree ngs! However, with some illness a er Christmas and going away for a few days to see my brother in Oregon, I must admit that I am just unable to do this. And so, I pray that this big gigan c Thank You will reach each and everyone of you! Both Fr. Francisco and I feel loved and appreciated. From the bo om of our hearts, we send our love and apprecia on for all the care you give us! Bless you!

Love,

FROM THE FRANCISCAN NATIVE AMERICAN MISSIONS

A SINCERE FRANCISCAN THANK YOU!

At our Thanksgiving Day Mass, we took up an offering for the poor. The collec on was $2000. For this, I am very grateful! We decided to divide the offering between two of our Fran-ciscan Na ve American Missions—San

Carlos Apache Mission in San Carlos, Arizona and St. Fran-cis Church in Whiteriver, Arizona. The Friar pastors of these churches have wri en us thank you notes of apprecia on for your dona on. Each of them says that many people come to the parish for food and funds for medica on and other needs. They are truly grateful! Once again, this community reaches out to the poor and needy. I know that many of you in quiet ways and without fanfare give of your me, talent and treasure to help those most in need. On behalf of all of us, I thank you and ask God’s richest blessings upon you as you live out Christ’s mandate to serve others. Fr. Vince

S T E W A R D S H I P T H O U G H T

Chris an stewardship begins with the call to discipleship, and in today’s Gospel, we discover those first individuals who sought out Jesus and wanted to listen to him, learn from him and stay with him. Today, Chris an stewards search out the hidden presence of Jesus in their own lives every day. They know Christ is the “Messiah” who will one day bring about a perfect restora on to a troubled world. They further un-derstand that they are sacraments of his hidden presence in the world. Their task is to make that reality known through their own words and ac ons. What is one thing we can do to be be er stewards of Christ’s life in us?

MENTAL HEALTH MINISTRY If you or a loved one is struggling with a mental illness, you are not alone. Mission San Luis Rey Parish is part of the San Diego Diocesan Mental Health Ministry Network. We are here to assist you in finding the help you need. 760-757-3250 x203

QUERIDOS AMIGOS,

¡Qué mo-mento tan diver do!
