THE BUZZ, VOL 4 ISSUE 7

Hello, As the cold weather sets in on us, please take note that when the temperature drops below 32 degrees, the students are able to come into the lunchroom by 7:50a.m. They are able to study or read, something quiet while keeping warm until school starts. While reviewing the past few years newsletters, I’ve noticed we have a lot to brag about! We’ve won many competitions over the years, many of our students are exceptionally well pre-pared in math and reading giving Beehive its great name. As I reread these I want to bring some of my favorite articles to your attention. See some of these on this page. Additionally, as I so much enjoy learning about our families, I’m incorporating a small weekly breakfast to accommodate my objective in meet-ing everyone. I hope to have the opportunity to meet with all families by the end of the school year. Please await your invi-tational call to breakfast.

—Mr. Frank

BIG BUDAH FROM FOX 13 GOOD DAY UTAH WAS IN

On March 29th Wednesday morning, Big Budah was in our school and millions of Utahans watched our exciting SimCity, Lego, and Science Fair Pro-jects. It was another exciting day in BSTA that Mr. Saka and Mr. Kurban stayed at the school for a sleepover with 15 students. They worked on the projects until 11 pm and woke up at 4.50 am to get ready for the live show. Every-body was nervous, because all the students would be on live show for the first time. Never-theless, all the efforts were worth it. We had an awesome show and Big Budah was funny as always. We started to receive phone calls and emails right after the show from the parents asking about our school. The copy of the show will be available soon on the school website www.beehiveacademy.org. We would like to thank all our awesome students who made this possible. We also would like to thank our PTA head committee member Marie Jess for her hard work to get Big Budah into our school and all the other parents who were there to sup-

port us early in the morning.

BSTA Flexes its Math Muscles and Comes Up Strong!

Another success story from BSTA

This is the season for math competition here in SLC and so far BSTA is proving itself to be a formidable challenger!

American Mathematics Con-test 8 (AMC8) Competition

On November 15, 2005, Con-ner Shaw, an 8th grade stu-dent at BSTA, competed in the 2005 American Mathemat-ics Contest 8 (AMC8) Competi-tion. Administered by the Mathematical Association of America, members of the BSTA team took the test among 143,000 students in grades 4-8 participated na-tionwide. Best Programming Award Las Vegas, Nevada

1st in Utah, 2nd in the region

Some of you may know that BSTA’s Lego League team, lead by the Science Teacher Mr. Kurban, went to a competition in Las Vegas, Nevada on the weekend of Decem-ber 2nd. We are proud to announce that our team came back with an award for best programming. The trophy stands in the main office for all to see. We took a brief time away from Study Tables to show the students of BSTA the missions that were completed by the Lego league team, and to award each person that went to Nevada with a certificate. As the first team in Utah to receive such award in this competition, BSTA’s Lego League is setting high standards for the rest of Utah. We are hoping to go to the National competition in April. Good Job to all of the Lego league mem-bers!

November 2005
