The Army Reserve is made up of everyday Aussies who are ready to step up to any challenge — if and when the country needs. Reservists help local communities around Australia and abroad, and play an important part in providing the additional soldiers and officers the Australian Army needs.

ALWAYS READYThe Army Reserve is there whenever communities need a hand. As a Reservist, you'll be part of the team that helps to rebuild the lives of entire communities. You could be providing assistance to tsunami and earthquake victims, or helping with peacekeeping efforts abroad in places like East Timor or the Solomon Islands.

Deployments are voluntary so if you choose to stay local, there are plenty of ways to make a difference closer to home, too.

FLEXIBLE WAYS TO SERVEThe Army Reserve is designed to fit your lifestyle. As a civilian, you'll continue your career or education while you train as a Reservist close to home. You'll work a minimum of twenty days a year as a Reservist, plus you will have the opportunity to go on exercises, deployments and training to further hone your skills.

WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO LEARN HOW TO THINK FOR YOURSELF. You’ll find that the emphasis of officer training is to encourage you to make sound decisions using your own initiative. Allowing you to think freely encourages smart leadership – an attribute Australian Officers have possessed throughout history. Your training will combine theoretical classroom instruction with practical field exercises. So you’ll be able to put what you’ve learnt into practice in realistic scenarios and be ready to face any challenge your career might present.

RESERVISTS HELP LOCAL COMMUNITIES AROUND AUSTRALIA AND ABROAD.

APPLY TODAY FOR A FULFILLING CAREER.It's easy to join the Army Reserve. To be eligible, you don’t need any military experience or training. You just need to be active, intelligent, motivated, and be looking for a great career. To be eligible to apply, you will need to be an Australian citizen, be at least 17 years of age and have completed Year 12, with passes in English and three other approved subjects.

If you're ready to apply start now by visiting defencejobs.gov.au/armyreserve or call 13 19 01.

BENEFITS YOU WON’T FIND ANYWHERE ELSE.The Army Reserve is not just about unforgettable experiences. You'll also enjoy a range of benefits you won't find anywhere else.

TAX-FREE PAYAll Army Reservists receive tax-free pay. Put simply, it's income that goes straight in your pocket and won't affect any Government allowances you may be getting. You'll get paid during initial training, and whenever you're required for training, deployments or assistance missions. It's a great way to put yourself ahead financially.

MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCEChoose to go on deployment or an assistance mission and you'll get to travel around Australia and overseas. You might help to keep the peace abroad, take part in training exercises in Hawaii, or rebuild communities in places like flood-ravaged Queensland. If you choose to stay local, there are plenty of ways to make a difference in your own area too.

LEARN NEW SKILLSThe expert training you will receive in the Army Reserve is unparalleled. You'll train with the latest equipment, and develop skills in leadership, communication, problem solving, and physical fitness — real skills that you can use every day in your civilian life.

MATES FOR LIFEMateship and the Army go hand-in-hand. You'll go through a lot with your fellow officers and soldiers, so it's no wonder people form strong friendships in the Army Reserve.

WE’LL COVER YOUR DAY JOBThe Army Reserve works with employers, too. Not only could your employer be eligible for a subsidy from the Army to compensate for your absence, they gain a well-rounded and motivated employee, with skills that give their business an edge.

If you're looking to challenge yourself mentally and physically then a career as an General Service Officer in the Army Reserve could be for you. A GSO is someone who is committed, shows initiative, works well in a team environment and has leadership potential. Your training will teach you how to think, not what to think. At the end of your training you will have the ability to lead and the ability to make decisions confidently.

WE’RE LOOKING FOR TOMORROW’S LEADERS.We’re looking for people who measure their success by the difference they make, not those who prefer to look on from the sidelines. We’re looking for people who want to have a role in the future Australian Army.
